Pages 205 and 206 have no reason to be there (and they're also in the wrong order).
So, who scanned made a mistake or who printed the volume did.
I hope it's not the second case.
We're pushing to have this out as quickly as possible, maybe in August in print, September at the latest. (We need to have the file done two months before release to allow time for printing and shipping.) I hope people will try to resist the urge to read scans in the meantime.

I think most of us already read the scan, that won't change the fact that we are gonna buy it! For the others, I'm pretty sure lots of them will buy it anyway!
We had this kind of question asked on the forum once, who would buy the manga even if he read the scans, I don't remember exactly but we were approaching 100% buying option.
The point is more a disinterest for the series than not buying because the scans are out.

Yeah, glenat is taking forever, they reprinted all the books with the new cover and it just delayed everything.
I still have to check if the new edition corrected volume 6 missing page fuck up, as well as several missplaced text in the older volume.
But as far as I am concerned, I would have preferred them to lose the rights in favor of more competent publishers. Gunnm is a mere cash cow for them these days. They know it will sell no matter what so they put 0 effort in it.
I think I remember seeing something on glenat's website that (for the new glo kodansha edition) they did not get the rights for the new covers for example, this is why we have this new edition, with no improvements at all, just to follow the new numbering.
They said also something when they get the rights they will do another "perfect" edition thing, to screw us up once more...
I could set up a poll and ask all the users their honest answer on "Did you buy the manga after you read the scans!"
For me that answer is yes, and i guess for the majority it is yes too.
Also reading the scans and reading the viz/kodansha release.
I read them both.
Its fun to compare, read what we in the past screwed up, and where we excelled in detail.
Like names for instance, they were not always 100% correct.
But the amount of side-notes and detail of techno-babbel the translators provided was at times far superior then Viz.
As for the current translation given, it is pretty good.
There are always nuances that are different due to translation/translator preferences, but still.
I understand Ben's concern coming from the publishing side. This is why Kodansha requested that RA stop scanlating in English. Coming from the fan side, the scanlation is to tide us over until the official releases come out due to the lag time between Japanese and other language releases. As for the economics of buying manga that is up to each individual depending on their circumstances.
I recall that discussion about buying the manga after scanlations came out, practically all of us said yes we still buy the manga with the exception of someone who shall remain nameless. I have all the first edition Viz releases of the original series (which are missing the omake ) and LO since it started coming out.
I'm just speaking from personal experience. I've never read scanlated manga (I started learning Japanese and reading manga at around the same time, so it helped to force myself to go to Kinokuniya and buy in Japanese), but I did watch fansubbed anime, and I know there were series I didn't finish buying because I'd seen them already. I'd fully intend to support the series, but I'd end up buying Vol. 1 and maybe 2, then forgetting to follow through. If you have that kind of discipline, more power to you, but I realized that I didn't, even though I liked to think I did. Of course, the other issue is, if you're using a manga aggregator site, you're making money for criminals just by clicking "next page," which gets them another ad view, and personally I'm really uncomfortable with that.
i agree that scanlation and warez sites should be non-profit organizations.
we don't pay for anything on the internet, but they manage to pay themselves out of the ads (which i block, by the way). this economic model should rely only on donation, to buy servers, bandwith, and the excess money should be given to the author directly, bypassing all intermediates.

I read the scans simply because Gunnm was the first manga I ever read, and it is the only Manga I still buy when it comes out in volume form here in Germany to this day. I simply love the series too much, that's why I crave for every new page. And even if I already read it with Gurens' translation, I certainly will buy it again, simply because reading an actual book is so much better than having to click on a screen, and obviously, because I want to support Kishiro, the Author... ( Heck, I would likely even donate him money via paypal, if he had an option for it on the site )
With Anime, it can be a different issue... this doesn't apply to "milestones" like the new EVA movies - I have them on Bluray, though I have to admit, I did download a rip of the third with fansubs a few days ago. But you can be sure that on day one of the Bluray release of 3.33 here, it'll be in my shelf, lined neatly next to the other two and the rest of my eva DVDs... which will be somewhere in the late summer, afaik...
With Anime Series, that are currently aired in japan, it's a whole different story IMO. They are usually not licensed ( yet) in my region, and usually it takes them well around 1-2 years until it sees the light of the day here. Also, it's more like watching a recording from TV, and I usually refrain from watching Bluray series releases - those were rereleased with the intend to be sold, and often enough feature redrawn art for certain scenes to make the whole production more crisp... and you guessed it probably; if I REALLY enjoyed a series a lot ( tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann comes to mind) I'll buy the DVDs/Blurays without a second thought.
Donation or subscription models work if people are incentivized to pay for them (e.g. the whole premium access thing). If there is a way for leechers and lurkers to still obtain the material it becomes pointless.
And Vol. 18 coming out September 24 with 2nd omnibus on August 13.

I don't know if it's the good thread to talk about that but I've received my vol 18 recently. I had one thing to say to Ben, I think the footnotes are difficult to read. I don't know if it's due to the font or its size but that's pretty small.
Otherwise the volume looks great! And I must say, that's the first time I read the official book before two more volumes are already released in japan! I think I'll keep up with the american version.
