It's out and even more pointless than how i thought it could be :D

What's going on with Kishiro? Trying to put water in the soup? If that was the first volume of Alita i wouldn't even have considered to read it :P

lol. It's like Kishiro just did this chapter to draw some weird cyborgs.
I totally like the "new" cat-Gally personality. "emo-Gally" was becoming kinda iritating.

You know weekend got in the way, and staring at that karate schools diagram on page 20 (272 on the raw) it feels like a homework due for Monday. ^_^;;

Besides everyone waited over 12 days for the raw, so waiting another 2-3 days for the translation won't kill you.

J. Gerambo: This is Jack Gerambo for Combat TV.
J. Gerambo: We're transmitting from the No. 3 Arena specially lent by the ZOTT committee!

J. Gerambo: In anticipation of tomorrow's Block B semi-final, we have a deluge of applicants to the Space Karate Allies!
J. Gerambo: Take a look!

J. Gerambo: Brave and distinguished Karate practitioners from all around the Solar System are gathering here!!
J. Gerambo: There are roughly over one hundred!!

page 6 (raw258)

J. Gerambo: But it didn't go through the tabletop.
J. Gerambo: This is...!?
panel2
sfx: Clank
panel3
Zekka: Take it as a souvenir.
panel4
H. Hopper: Thi.. this is the legendary "Manutite"!!
TL Note: This one was kinda hard to translate, since the original Japanese use the word "Tegataito or Tegatite". Searched for it for a while and only came up with discussion threads from Japanese forums talking about this GLO Chapter, and realized it's a made up word. Which I think is a combination of "Tegata" (hand print in Japanese) and ending it with "ite" which can be seen commonly in mineral names or fossils like the "Trilobite". So I came up with this words, Manutite (manu: Latin for hand) or Chirotite (Chiro: Greek for hand)

H. Hopper: The palm strikes so fast the glass won't crack and instead solidify into the shape of the hand print.
H. Hopper: In the universe only a few people are able to perform this!!
H. Hopper: This would fetch a few millions in an auction!
panel5
Karateka: As expected from Master Zekka!
Karateka: Universe No. 1!!
panel6
Zekka: This is only entertainment! entertainment!
<J. Gerambo: He might be unexpectedly good humored...>

page 9 (raw261)

Toji: Humm...

Toji: Those who didn't respond to my call before...
Toji: came in droves after Zekka's reputation!

Hetzler sfx: (sound of rubbing money)
Hetzler: As one would expect from Zekka's wonderful handwork!!
panel2
Hetzler: I was wondering if...
Hetzler: we, the UKF, would peacefully join the Space Karate Allies and benefit us both...
Hetzler sfx: (sound of rubbing money)
panel3
UKF Karateka: That guy is Hetzler from the Kneeling Karate!!
UKF Karateka: That wretch is trying to bribe his way in again!?
UKF Karateka: But, is that gonna work with that brutal Zekka!?
panel4
Hetzler: Ah! Got thrown back.
panel5
<Hetzler: Ughh... Money or women won't work? >
<Hetzler: Then I'll show you Kneeling Karate's secret technique!! >

page 13 (raw265)
panel1
<Hetzler: Like >
<Hetzler: this!!>
panel2
UKF Karateka: Instructor Hetzler has done it, his almost flawless kneeling position.
sfx: Thank you very much.
UKF Karateka: That prostrate position, an attack to the human psyche so beautiful that nobody won't feel compassion towards him!!
UKF Karateka: This is real Bushido!! The kind that will even stop a spear!
Textbox: Kneeling Karate's Disciples.
<Hetzler: See!! This is the secret to our school's political power that branches out even to Jupiter and Venus!!>
<Hetzler: Everyone kneel down now.>
TL Note: The pun on this Karate school name and it's secret technique was kinda lost in translation. Let me explain, the original Japanese is Tugezah Karate (Tugezah in katakana is Together in English), but at the same time it sounds like Togeza which is kneeling down or prostrate oneself. So it's either keeping Together Karate for the original sound and name but losing the joke completely or using Kneeling Karate which some purist might complain about but might keep a vestige of the joke.

Hetzler: Oh
Hetzler: Ohhh
Hetzler: All right!! Zekka fell for it...

Zekka: Hey
Zekka: Are you imitating a toad?
panel5
Zekka: Take it as a souvenir.
J. Gerambo: Hiiiii
<J. Gerambo: Definitely scaryyyyy!!>
panel6
UKF Karateka: de... demon.
UKF Karateka: You devil!!

page 15 (raw267)
Zekka: Listen well
Zekka: You shitheads!

page 16 (raw268)
panel1
Zekka: Karate doesn't need to be boasted.
Zekka: You fight!!
panel2
Zekka: Even for an instant, if you call yourself a Karateka then show me your strength!
Zekka: If there's any interesting guy who survives... He'll be added to the team.

J. Gerambo: Truly a Great Karate War!!

page 20 (raw272)
panel1
J. Gerambo: Uwahh... Mr. Hopper please, explain to us the current state of the Space Karate World...!!!
panel2
H. Hopper: Currently, in the whole universe there's a total of 180 million Karate practitioners overwhelmingly outnumbering any other martial art.
H. Hopper: However, many schools & organizations with different ideologies are crowding the fields, leading to confrontations among them; creating a very chaotic present situation.

Diagram:
Upper Right Title: Karate, it's birth and evolution. *Because of lack of data prior to the modern era, there will be disagreement in the opinions of many researchers.

Prior to the 17th Century: [Te(ja) Ti/Tiy(Oki)] Ryukyu (Okinawa) developed their ceremonial armed martial art which gave origin to the empty handed one. During this period the schools, their teachings and records were kept secret.

18th Century: [To-te(ja) To-di(Oki)] [Influence of Chinese Martial Arts] Around this time Shuri-te(ja)/Sui-di (Oki), Naha-te (ja)/Naafa-di(Oki), etc appeared and were named after their place of origin.

footnote: Reference - "The Evolution of Okinawa's Traditional Karate (Tiy)" book by Master Koei Nohara, Kyuyo Publishing. http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-langu ... ge=en%5FJP

TL Note/Rant: Ok, let's clarify a few things about Okinawa, Ryukyu and Ryukyu Islands. "Ryukyu", the word alone, in modern usage is synonym to Okinawa and it's also the old name for Okinawa. Yes, I checked this in the English and Japanese wikipedia as well as other sources. Now, "Ryukyu Islands" is used to refer to the archipelago, but what portion the term covers depends on the language. In English usage Ryukyu Islands cover the whole archipelago from southwest of Kyushu to Taiwan. In Japanese they refer to the whole archipelago as the Nansei Islands and they divide it in two portions. The north portion or Satsunan Islands that fall into the Kagoshima Prefecture administration. The south portion which they call Ryukyu Islands falls under the Okinawa Prefecture administration. So in short for english speaking purposes: Ryukyu=Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands=The archipelago.

page 21 (raw273)
panel 1
H. Hopper: The Universe Karate Federation (UKF) is one of two major powers!!
H. Hopper: Just like Hetzler, they advocate their "Great Karate" by bragging their political influence and commercialize their image...
H. Hopper: But the truth is they surprisingly posses a lot of strength thanks to their numbers.
Cubehead Textbox: [Square Karate - Cube]
Beretguy Textbox: [Seven Lucky Gods Karate - Daikoku]
Robbie Textbox: [Robo Karate - Robby]
TL Note: Some of the karate school & member's name, their kanjis don't make any sense together or have little relationship to their persona unless specifically noted, so don't delve to deep into them. They were written like that to look cool and make up their phonetic sound.
For Square Karate, the kanji read as "Shikaku shimen" meaning Formal, Literal or Square (the last one being the slang for socially conventional or only thinking inside the box). As for its member's name the kanjis "Kyubu" are "research" and "art of war", but make up the sound for Cube.
Seven Lucky Gods Karate: Is a direct reference to the Seven Gods of Fortune or Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese Mythology and one
of them being Daikokuten (Daikoku) the name of it's representative. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Gods_of_Fortune
Robo Karate: Nothing much to explain here, except the robot's shape and name are a reference to Robby from the "Forbidden Planet" Classic Movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/

panel2
H. Hopper: The other major power is the Solar System Karate Federation (SSKF)!!
H. Hopper: Their style is closer to Kick Boxing, but...
H. Hopper: their true fighting potential can't be taken lightly!!
Grasshopper Textbox: [Riderman Karate - Patta]
Magnetguy Textbox: [Power Nuke Corp Karate - Plut]
One-eye Textbox: [Tesla Style Karate - Volt]

TL Note:
Riderman Karate: The kanjis are pronounced Raida-mon which is close to how Riderman sounds. The name of the school and the representative with a Grasshopper head is a direct reference to the Japanese Kamen Rider (Masked Rider) series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamen_rider

Power Nuke Karate: The Japanese name is "Dounen Karate". It's a reference to the former Japanese "Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation (PNC)" and which name is abbreviated to "Dounen" in Japanes. Another direct reference is the name of the representative named Plut (Puruto in katakana); the PNC had a mascot named "Puruto-kun" which would be translated as Mr. Plutonium; it was featured in some badly criticized advertising campaigns. More in depth information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Reac ... orporation
Finally Tesla style and Volt are self explanatory.
The kanjis in Patta, Plut, Tesla and Volt's names don't make any sense together. PNC (Dounen) kanjis wouldn't either if it

wasn't because it's the shortening for that Corporation's name.

page 22 (raw274)
panel 1
H. Hopper: There are also those influential individual schools that aren't part of the previous two major powers.
Turbine-eyes Textbox: [Anti-tank Karate - Vulcan]
Many hands Textbox: [Median Line Karate - Rush]
Eggshape Textbox: [Big Rotation Karate - Roll]

Snake Textbox: [Snake Body Karate - Dabi]
Octopus Textbox: [Hundred Million Slaying Shinken - Kraken]
Elasticman Textbox: [Body Tune Karate - Boingboing]
