For a story this good, I'm surprised that no part of it made me cry. The only part that moistened my eyes a bit was when Arthur put the two pieces of the musical instrument together that once belonged to Haruka

Manga in general never makes me cry, but the reason for me is due to manga having no voice acting or music. If it had an anime where there was really good voice acting or an emotional music, than I would most likely cry. Though I'm not saying I was indifferent to the manga but instead I felt emotional at best and it was during . Also a further thought the most shocking moment for me is Last order chapter 61 in general that chapter is one of my favourite in the battle angel alita series

Yeah, the absense of vocals and music will tone down emotional response a lot.
Read a visual novel with just text on screen and music, and it can make you cry or make you feel fucked up for days.

For a simple example: "Planetarian" the visual novel. Anime is so much better in getting an emotional response.
Animation, sounds, vocals, music and just the right timings.

The music, the video, the crying people, watch it, then tell me how the last 10 seconds went (the hospital scene).

It is a really short visual novel, has a somewhat slow pace for the time you read it, but the end is surely going to tear you up.
The way they used the music and the final image shown is the real kick in the teeth where most people will lose it.
Greatly done in my opinion.

I thought it was quite realistic on what they trying to depict with the sad tone, but the directing was more than serviceable, the hospital scene is tragic as car accident happens sometime. But I got to admit it really remains me of those sad Thai commerical I seen a lot on the internet before don't know why but it does.

To me one of the best characteristics of anime and manga are the plots that don't spare the audience from strong emotions. Yet I seldom cry, however there are a lot of works that caused me heartaches and made my eyes became wet. It is easier for anime to make me feel like that for the reasons you guys numbered before. The most recent examples that come to my mind are "Planetarian, Hoshi no Hito" (the movie) and "Ookami Kodomo Ame to Yuki" ("Kimi no na wa" wasn't able to strike me that hard). However some masterpiece manga also drove me to tears (or close to them). A few of them are "Seizon Life", "Emma", "Gokiburi Gijinka" and "Omoide Emanon". Regarding Gunnm, I think the most distressing moment for me was when Alita found Ito, after years searching for him, only to discover that he had no memories of her.

That part in which Sonic Fingers spins a beer bottle so fast that the cap explodes and all beer jumps out of the bottle direcly into his mouth. He really is a brother. One of us.

Stop pretending to be tough and confess that you can't help crying when reading the slightest drama

I admit so, but i can't remember any moment of the whole GUNNM thing that made me cry. It has so many great oustanding moments, even some cheesy one, but never went pointlessly emotional.

I never cry while watching or reading, but I almost cried many times. This scene can be an example: Thing is, that I could not remember this scene and just randomly saw it on tumblr.

I am rereading Last Oder in the omnibus format, that flashback is at the beginning of the third one (so, volume 5 of the original printing, I think), phases 38 and 39, when Alita fights Tzikrow. It is one of the very best sequences IMHO too.

Other bits in the manga that made me feel a little something:

- The bit about Olympe and that beast dude
- When Alita realized that she didn't want to give away her brain and jumped to get it back
- When Yugo fell down
- Death of Kayna

The strongest as I said was when Arthur put the two pieces of the musical instrument together. Just the face that he carried that one piece with him his whole life and never saw any other woman was touching.

Yeah, I immediately found these chapters and re-readed in both version of translations. How could I forgot such a fine scene...
I will also start rereading it. Just finished original one and resolutions of them are so good to read. Now I no longer want to read manga/comics online.

I understand the nice feeling of having the printed editions, to feel the paper with your hands, but the latest scans are huge (the ominubus edition) and you can see the details of the drawings much better than in the average format of a printed edition (assuming that you are reading on a PC monitor or at least on a fairly good a tablet).

Reading with a phone is, probably, the worst.

Only time I felt sad was after the "twist" with Makaku. But I didn't cry, I felt sorry for the poor thing. Also, at the end of volume 5 I think? where Zapan is talking with his wife after Alita defeated him. But again I wasn't sad, I was horryfied on how this guys life ended after he meet Alita.

That and how his wifes head ended up falling in the soup pan, that was a revolting moment for me.

Most emotional reaction I had was the death of Kayna, I was pissed at Kishiro for that.

I get emotionally tied to characters pretty much all the time, so I do get my eyes wet often while reading.
Ironically I think the only "good guy" death that didn't affect me much was the little kid in Last order that make Gally go on that flag hunt thingy. The kid itself was too obviously gonna be fodder, he had a red flag on the head before even appearing.

Recently seen the visual novel, takes about 4 hours and I thought it is kind of cliched and the main character junker being very uninteresting and boring the story is very predictable as well, I didn't enjoy it that much at all, but I can understand why people like it the ending that's it don't hear people praise the beginning or middle though as it has pacing issues, there are better visual novel out there or short stories like firewatch or to the moon and few others the best vn is still MLA in my opinion.

I cried a few times reading it, but the time I cried the most was with the original ending. My wife was by my side looking at me like "wtf", but I thought it was beautiful.

Everytime I think about Koyomi's declaration, "I'M JOINING BARJACK!"

A part that really made me cry was that part in which Kishiro literally stopped drawing Mars Chronicles...
