hi first at all thanks for Vol 9 guys.

now, i have a doubt about melchizedek(merlin,maarin).
does melchizedek really can forecast the future? or melchizedek makes the future happen?

i mean, when alita and Caerula(vilma) fight at ZOT, caerula said "what a twist of fate to meet again after 200 hundreds years, and not know your name... No not fate!, melchizedek was this what you wanted?"

and Arthur saids "Melchizedek is just a machine that doesnt have will or sense of values it reacts on human perception and outputs the future or past information on a quatum level, melchizedek doesnt decide the future, human perception restrics the possibilities and that action decides the future."

so caerula said something like melchizedek decides the future, but Arthur said is human perception what decides the future.

so this is the doubt i have about this. does melchizedek really predict the future base on human actions and perception or do melchizedek choose the future it wants and see fit.

and forgive my english im from Rep Dom :P

and other thing, Viz calls melchizedek prototype as Merlin but you guys translated as Maarin. merlin makes more senses for me for the Arthur and all the knights of the round table stuff.

melchi can forecast the future ... according to data, not from thin air.
so data entered (and btw, human actions and thoughts) are its main input.

and yes, maarin is merlin, everything in mechi is arthur-related, maybe because ... he was created by this boy named arthur ? :D

Yes, Arthur sees himself as king Arthur - the king of legend. Merlin was the wizard of king Arthur. He used to be a great prophet as well.
The Fata Morgana is named after king Arthur's sister. I think Fata Morgana is the one who seals Merlin the wizard for good in some versions of the myth.

We forgot to change the name from Maarin to Merlin. It was a really big mistake. specially when Merlin looks like the sorcerer Merlin.

Well quantum physics works like..... its weird but from what little i know on quantum mechanics it states that on a quantum level (that is electron size or smaller) the very act of observing something alters it. Some if you expect to find an electron at point A to B moving at a certain speed and direction and time then it will happen just because you thought it should! If no one is checking this elementary particle it would exist as all particle do, as a probability.

Quantum physicans state that the "arrow of time" is an extension of entropy, that the universe tend toward chaos, and that perceptions alter that change.

Merlin works by gather the quantum information around it and coming up with most probable outcome. When people hear this outcome they expect it to come true, which further increases the chance that it will come true.

Auther's fear was basically confirmed, people would only come to accept the future that Merlin stated, especially when it always comes true (but mainly due to people thinking it will come true).

I just read this type of stuff for fun and I don't have a PhD in theoric physics so if anyone wants to correct please do.

I have heard about it as well. It might be false, but it is a popular interpretation of the facts. So it's OK in a sci-fi.
After all, Yukito Kishiro has always been using spiritual concepts like karma, chi, psychometry, etc. trying to find their place in the rational world of machine science. The phenomenon explored in the Vilma Arc is prophecy.

at last someone responded my question :P
samb thanks for explication, it impressed me greatly, very well explained and detailed.
so basically, humans can change the future if they think about it and truly believe thats gonna happen and melchizedek just forecast a probable future base on this stuff.

so now my question is: when caerula(vilma) said that it was not fate that alita nd her met again after a few hundred years and that was melchizedek that wanted this to happen.

how should i interpret that?? a error in the translation from VIZ? or maybe caerula thought meeting again with yoko and became real? maybe not, she didnt even know she was alive.

i understand merlin (melchizedek) only forecast the future.
but how should i interpret caerula(vilma) words about this?

melchizedek stopped working right once yoko destroyed the main arthur unit. Now Vilma had the fata morgana which can mimic the main unit, so maybe she can use the prophecy functions of melchizedek but i doubt it.

Maybe she used it before the whole incident? If i had to guess she wanted to know if she would ever meet someone that could defeat her and melchizedek told her something cryptic like: someone who rises from the dead has the capacity to defeat you".

Just a guess, but she has stated that she exists to meet someone truly aware, Alita seems like she could be just that person.
