It just occurred to me that Anomaly is a parody of Metal Gear Rex. Their heads are shaped very similarly, and they both have a laser penis.

What really shocks me is that in the italian edition Anomaly have been called Ano-Maru. Damn Kanji.

I don't know the game, so which one appeared first?

Actually those weird names are a problem of the writing system the Japanese use to write foreign languages words, the katakana. Japanese is a phonetically poor language, so when they convert a foreign word to katakana, the result is often very different from the original. A random example: シャープペンシル that reads "shaapenshiru" and stands for sharp pencil or mechanical pencil. So when the translator isn't that good, he/she will write "shaapenshiru" instead of the original word. The fans usually got those katakana words right and the official releases don't. The Brazilian edition of Knights of Sidonia came with "higusu particles" instead of Higgs particles among many other mistakes... yeah, fuck them

By the way, it isn't "laser penis", it is the "libido cannon"! LOL
