My daughter noted how closely the gun Alita is using on image on the cover of Volume 1 resembles the gun she got on Venus:




Was the volume 1 image drawn later? Or does he really plan this far in advance? Or is it a coincidence?

I noticed that too, and yes, it's definitely the same character, but with a different, updated design. There's an uncropped version of that cover art that proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt:

I think it is an early image...he planned. I never read Memory of Mars game info closely but we got the main part of her origin via the Masque Tumor so yeah. The cool glaring thing he didn't plan is the Zott tournament character creation contest character....people came up with crazy ideas and he took thhem and made them incredible.

Wasn't this already pointed out when this chapter came out?
I think there even was a translator note about it. IIRC

I didn't see any notes posted in the scan here or in the print version. Can you remember where you saw notes?

Not a translator note, but it was spotted pretty fast: viewtopic.php?p=15376#p15376

Ah. Great! I guess I should be impressed with my daughter's memory and disappointed in mine.

You get that gun in the PSX game, too. A lot of what was in that game is in Last Order and Mars Chronicle, just way more fleshed out, but the basic bones were set in place back then. I predict the golden Damascus blade at some point, too.
