I still remember how that one went. The author had basically been stringing their foreign publishers along, making them think the series was just another one of those "kid finds a cute little monster-thing and they live happily ever after" things like Pokemon or something.

... And then a bunch of bullies molested Hiroko with a test tube, and that was the end of that.

I mean, BAA/Gunnm has never been kid-friendly, and I don't mind if Kishiro-san decides to draw a huge cyber-monster thing with an equally massive schlong. I just hope that Viz doesn't freak out about it and pull the plug. I want the entire series on my bookshelf.

That's my hope, as well. I hope Viz does the human thing and puts an appropriate rating on it, rather than nix it altogether. :\

I always thought it was strange how far Kishiro has gone to avoid nudity in Last Order, when he had many opportunities to include nudity without it seeming gratuitous.

Maybe Kishiro's just seeing how far he can take it...or maybe part of him thinks it's really funny...either way, Toji'll beat it, for sure.

Zekka isn't part of any team, as far as I can tell. He may be entered as one of the seed teams, which have not been revealed yet.

Mbadi and Zekka are talking about some man that Zekka apparently just killed, or "took care of." Zekka insists he fought him for his own reasons, and tells Mbadi to shut his trap. Mbadi tells Zekka that now he's probably the strongest in the universe, that "that man" had been quite a pain in the ass, and that interstellar commerce was much more at ease now thanks to Zekka's actions.

They then talk a bit about the upcoming matches. Zekka says he's bored with Toji, but accidentally made a promise to Sechs in the heat of the moment, so he has to show up in the tournament, which is a pain in the ass for him.

The power dynamic between Zekka, Mbadi, and Caerula is interesting. We have Zekka telling Mbadi to shut his trap, and Mbadi acknowledging Zekka's supreme power. And didn't Mbadi say a few volumes ago that Caerula is probably the most powerful fighter in the universe? And who knows where Alita and Frova fit into the hierarchy?

Well, I still think, due to her insight and abilities, Caerula definitely, in terms of combat prowess, ranks the highest. I don't know what good that would have done her against that Anomaly fella, who seems capable of taking absurd amounts of punishment, or against a giant like Toji, because you'd need some kind of strength to down guys like them, more than she had, physically.

Frova and Mbadi I don't think will be doing much actual "fighting," seeing how they seem to enjoy their positions of power moreso than any overt display of combat prowess. Mbadi apparently knows the ancient art of Kalarippayattu, according to Sanguis, but I don't know how strong it can be, no matter how proficient, against cyborgs. But then, we saw what Sanguis herself was capable of!
It just seems unlikely, seeing how Mbadi isn't the type to get his hands "officially" dirty, what with his "wave of his hand" hack skills and political pull. A direct, one-on-one showdown between Mbadi or Frova and any of the Space Angels just seems extremely unlikely. I do look forward to the Alita/Toji rematch, and Sechs/Zekka shows major, major promise, as well. But yeah, my point; I don't think Frova or Mbadi will see much actual fighting, especially since Ping is seemingly (at least temporarily) out of the picture, thus giving them their innate body-hacking advantage back...but who knows, Alita's new body may have built-in immunities...we'll just have to see!

I have a feeling Toji is going to die tragically, making Alita really angry and pumping her up to kick some major ass. Or maybe he'll sacrifice himself to save one of the Space Angels. Either way, Toji seems like he's a perfect martyr character.

I think you're right that Mbadi and Frova are not fighters. However, they both have tremendous intelligence and all kinds of tricks up their sleeves. Mbadi is still really quite mysterious--we know next to nothing about his history, and his motivations are nebulous. Can't wait to find out more about him--especially who the original 3 geniuses in his skull are.

Martyr? Really? He's another guy who's up in the air, really...we don't know that much about Toji, either, do we? Other than he traded his flesh and blood early to be "the best" and his proclivities toward personal honor, we've no other real indications of what kind of guy he is, but I have a feeling...just a hunch...that he'll be doing something big to aid Alita's quest. Not sure what. Just a hunch.

As for Frova and Mbadi...well, we know that Frova is his official "second in command," but we've no way of knowing how THAT relationship works yet..

But yes, Frova bumps in, announces Alita's dead, which freaks out the Space Angels. Toji says he doesn't believe it, but he's gonna keep on fighting for her sake.

Frova also does some commentary on Libido Beast Anomaly (the penis monster). Cursory translation indicates that it's made of nanomachines and it might just be a berserker body gone crazy, but that translation could be pretty far off.
