Yukito Kishiro has officially confirmed Mars Chronicles(part 3) will end and has officially completed chapter 56( 5 chapters in 8 months is not bad compared to before) as of November and that he wants to make the future story as part 4 instead and it will still involve Alita and Erica as main characters.

I am unsure why he has made this choice but it might relate in him wanting to split it to a different part due to being in comic-days now and probably wants to change it up or possibly to indicate a new story saga who knows or could even change page counts for chapters as well too all speculation though.

Honestly, I can't be the only one who was worried he was going to go on another hiatus for an extended period of time.

No you're not, it's just I think most people are kind of giving up on getting new chapters. We're not that eager to get the next issue anymore but still quite happy when it comes out!
It's good to know that this is going somewhere, but I won't be that disappointed anymore if the end result is just the halt of the story without any constructive or final meaning, that would be just sad but that's just how it works. I guess it's just a lack of interest from both the readers and the author that would lead to that.

For me Gunnm is still one of the best drawn and in someways story I've seen in a manga, and trying to keep this level in the long run can be quite difficult I suppose hence the long period without any issues. Vicious circle.

Yeah, definitely getting the vibe that Kishiro-san is losing interest.

He keeps spamming his youtube with A.I. generated "creepy" music and images. I've often got the impression he'd like to do a horror manga instead but doesn't feel confident enough to let one stand on its own.

Does this imply that the remaining chapters for Mars Chronicle will be released all at once?

More likely one or two per month until he's again in need to draw new ones.
