Some people prefer CDisplay; others do prefer MMCE.
WinZip has an internall viewer, but unfortunately it is available only for ZIP files.
I have changed to ZIPEG (http://www.zipeg.com/). The program opens ZIP, RAR, CBR, CBZ ald God knows what else. The difference is that it allows you to open images on Windows viewer without decompressing. In short, ideal for mangas/graphic novels readers, and insuperable.

If you have to open PDF files, the best option is still FOXIT (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/), it is lighter and faster than ACROBAT>

It's a wrong habit to open such things without decompressing them first, because:

1) You depend on a viewer archive support
2) Decompressed images are cached by most viewers (windows viewer is an exception - it doesn't cache in most cases), some programs can even pre-cache the whole folder if you have enough RAM, so images are opened instantly, without any discomfort which usually occurs when opening them in an ordinary way. Archieved images usually are not cached.


Now, my recommendations (all written below is my IMHO):

1) Under windows it's better to use AcdSEE, because it has the smoothest scrolling I've ever seen and a good fullscreen mode.
It caches the whole folder by default, so it changes manga pages very fast.

Also, all main archive types are supported (ZIP, RAR, TAR, TBZ2, ARJ... and many others).
It's shareware, so take it in torrent.

2) What about Linux, I'm currently using Comix to view manga. It's the simplest program for this stuff I've ever seen, it doesn't have any features except caching.
However, the only it's disadvantage is that it doesn't have a smooth enough scrolling, but it's graded by compiz's motion blur effect, so it's great, this is the perfect manga viewer for me.

Also, there is a thing called Gwenview (KDE4 version) - it's a linux clone of acdsee. It's great, but it has scrollbars in a fullscreen mode, so I don't use it for manga. If they don't annoy you - it's the best choice.
