Alita 3D - v2.0

Previous topic deleted.
Thanks, Ripper!

As I've already mentioned, I've thrown away everything I've done due to it's catastrophical failure and lameness, and started completely anew.

Also, I've written hepar about 1-2 months ago with a lot of screenshots and questions, but he hasn't answered. In fact, he hasn't even logined here since the beginning of December, so... I've just googled and read a lot - I've fixed everything by myself.

I won't post it (although I have a lot of screenshots for history's sake), just because I'm still ashamed of it - I'll wait until it's perfect.

However, this is the only one (but still imperfect and incomplete a lot) image I'm not so ashamed to post (although I am):
test6ps.jpg
Do not go hard on the thin lines - they're broken (some are zigzag-like, but must be smooth), because I've just taken a low-res displacement map (it's a test anyway), they are smooth in zbrush and will be smooth in the final thing.

PS.
That's all for now - I don't have anything else worthy enough to show you.

That is so much better than the first. The texture of the metal is much better, not like glass, and the colors are much more attractive now.

I really love this one!

These two weeks I've switched to materials leaving all the geometry frozen, just to shift attention.

I've made the final metal material, which I'm not ashamed to present. It's got very complex on contrary to the previous one (1 post ago).

No head/face materials done at this point, just metals.

Don't worry about them having a little yellowish tint - they're just reflecting the orange environment.

Today I've re-read BAA (the whole original thing) and I've finally came up with the understanding what it looks like. I've had so much trouble with it because I've had to use only memory and some official art - manga prohibited. But today it's been a year since I've last read it - so it was time to do it.

Yes, I've managed to have everything correct! No more questions like "Guys, what exactly does look weird?" - I know everything now.

So, here's the new face and hair, I'm 90% sure about everything this time.

Arrgh, these are just words - here are some screens:

PS.
I'm going to read the whole GLO tomorrow - to keep up to date with the manga, maybe I'll correct it further if it feels required. Anyway, next two days are going to be enjoyable.

Then I'll have to wait another year to be able to read it again. :(

ENG, in short:
I hope everything will be fine this time. I'm incredibly ashamed of all that crap I've done up to the previous month here. It is so terrible that I'm disgusted to remember it.

In a week I'll PM admin to delete all the previous pages, I'll post only things I'm not ashamed to present from now on.

There are 4 backups made daily of the forum database.
Transferred to 2 different locations...
Your postings will not disappear...
Your suffering will be legendary...

Of course they are, that's obvious!

I'm just asking to delete all previous pages and leave this page in place by the end of the next week. No one needs them anyway, with only interest of the outcome and results.
It's not suffering, I'm just ashamed of it, that's all.

PS.
Of course you can personally enjoy my postings from the backups all you want by yourself.

About two days ago I've made quite a complicated hair. I haven't seen the result yet - it's still rendering the test.

I will fine tune it later, but for now it will go like this. Here's a more-or-less screenshot:
Image

Also, while I've had nothing to do, I've manually vector redrawn the pattern on her wrapping cloth:
gunnmlov018.jpg
Here it is, precisely as possible:

That's all for now. :)

Damn good job on the cloth :)
I think this version of Alita can turn out really good!

Ok, here's the new report.

1) I've made a skeleton and roughly bound the model to it - it's posturable now, even animatable after some tuning. Face: no mimics yet, just eyes and eyelids, I haven't even touched the mouth yet, so there will be no OL for now, wait for it.
126crop.jpg
127crop.jpg
128crop.jpg
2) I've made a new eye materials - they aren't ridiculous as they were before (a diaphragm variant), but they'll look robotic in the final thing. No color changes, just specularity.

Like this:
Image <-missing!

3) I've made a decent face material. No renders available yet.

4) I've fine tuned hair, also it follows the physical laws and forces:
129crop.jpg

That's all for now.

PS.
I'm going to the Egypt for some resting, I won't be here for 2 weeks starting from Friday. The only thing - I'm panically afraid of flights, so if I won't die - I'll post something two weeks later.

Much of the "uncanny valley" effect is gone since last time, and your attention to detail and anatomy is staggering. Keep up the good work, bro!

The last post this month.

Yesterday I've finished the hands. Geometry and high-definition details are complete on these hands.

Here are some low-quality renders:
hand1d.jpg
hand2u.jpg
hand3.jpg
hand4.jpg
hand5.jpg
On the last one the distortions are terrible - I haven't tuned skin deformations at all yet, this was just to test the fingers.

PS.
See you in two weeks.

Looks really good :D
Final render and possibly animation of her doing some obscene stuff

Have a great time in Egypt and enjoy your diarrhea if your not careful!
* Imodium tablets* a must buy!

No, there won't be such a thing, I guarantee. Alita doing obscene stuff is absolutely unacceptable, as well as rule 34 with her.

What about Egypt - I'm going to a sea resort, not to the desert with the natives.

The curse of the pharaoh...the diarrhea.

You are going to see three things in Egypt, the pyramids, all the salesmen that want to sell you crap and you are going to see the toilet

Arms and hands look spectacular. I can't wait to see more.

I can't imagine the Alita model James Cameron has on his servers, but I'd bet it isn't too different from this.

I'm back!

Don't expect anything serious in the next two weeks. I have an enomorous amount of my main work to catch up on - I won't be able to spare any time for this, most probably.

2 Rindain:
Of course, it will be a lot different. Don't forget that I'm just a hobbyist - it's stupid to expect something equal.

Here's the first test render without hair, just to see the face.
nohairs.jpg
The same image, but with hair will be ready within a week - it's still processing, the hair is really heavy.
Now I don't have any servers which I can use, so I've bought myself a Core i7-920 with 6gb ram and even without any video card - solely to use it as a computational device.

Sorry, there won't be a version of the previous image with hair. It's been calculating for a week and died with a lack of RAM - 6gb aren't enough. Anyway, I'm going to buy 6 more next month.

Now, I'm trying to lower the hair percentage on the screen, so I've chosen another vantage point (the right one).

I guess, it'll take several days to calculate.

Do I get this right, your PC is working 24h for 7 days straight, to calculate the hair? With 6 GB ram? Holy shit! I had no idea how much resources this takes, thats crazy!^^

Looking forward btw, keep it up! I think the eyes are to human-like but I guess any bigger (more manga-like) would look awkward. So it's ok I guess. And her pout looks SO much better than last time! :)

The thing still kept failing, so I've had to decrease the image quality drastically, decrease the hair count and density, and to cheat heavily to see ANYTHING at all.

Also, it's taken a week to compute it with all the effort and simplification done. :x

I don't like the image I've got, because I've forgot to update the textures on that machine, so the body details are outdated badly: no hand details below elbows and no leg details. Also, the reduced hair density looks really bad. Not to mention the reflection artifacts (these black dots at her shoulders) - it's the cost of memory. Yes, and I've fucked up the finger deformation. :?

Cailon wrote:Do I get this right, your PC is working 24h for 7 days straight, to calculate the hair? With 6 GB ram?
Yes, it is. I've said two or three posts ago that I've bought a separate machine for it to compute it full-time, even without a video card (it's network connected), just the processor, mainboard, and ram. Simplifying, I've bought a calculator for about 900$. The shop salesman was shocked that I'm taking such a powerful thing, but without a video card.
