I'll be in Japan for the next two issues, so if we can't find another raw provider I can see if I can scan it. I'd have to find a scanner first though.
Re: GLO 98
ACK! I can't wait 20+ months for vol. 16 in English! NOO! T____T
ANd the translations here are so much better, too!
Thanks, TargaryenX, for your help and efforts to find a new raw source!

Raw-paradise is now redirected to shueisha.com!!!
Apparently, by reading messages on french forum, specially Ritual Scan Forge, many world-wide raw providers will do the same!
It's a hard day for manga fans...

And my login to the team site at raw paradise doesn't work anymore
Maybe the scans will be uploaded on mangahelpers?
Does anybody know if Winny is still a useful way to find raws?

I could look into subscribing to ultra jump, but it would probably take a really long time to get to Ohio. I definitely plan on buying the next two though, so we'll have some time to find another provider before I go back.

To all our readers
There are now many people unjustly posting copies of manga on the internet. These unjust copies are inconsistent with mangakas' feelings. They are also distorting the authors' intentions of "I want the work to be read this way". The actions of posting these unjust copies on the net, into which the mangakas have poured their hearts, are not only hurting mangakas in real life but are also against the law, even if done in a light-hearted manner. Every time we discover such "unjust copies", we talk to the mangaka and consider every possible countermeasure. But the number of inconsiderate people is great, and at present we cannot deal with all of them. We have a request for all our readers. The unjust internet copies are deeply hurting the manga culture, mangakas' rights, and even mangakas' souls. Please understand once again that all of that is against the law. Also, the mangakas and Shueisha will severely deal with any unjust copies found on the internet. We ask that our readers please continue to support us.

Re: GLO 98
Well, that fucking eats. I'm mad now.
Re: GLO 98
As I was told by someone who knows the print-scene over there rather well, this request is full of crap. While most other manga-magazines struggle to survive, Weekly Shounen Jump sells nearly 3 Million copies each week. What a miracle - considering that they publish Bleach, Naruto and way above all the uber-top-seller One Piece. Just like the music industry they completely overslept THE INTERNET and now they're trying to make something out of the situation.
However english scans are only a minor problem for them. It is Japan that has a huge manga-market, not the rest of the world. They mostly want to undermine japanese fans reading manga online.
I also learned that some tards congratulated Kubo Tite for his 400th chapter of Bleach on Thursday - when the JUMP is in stores the Monday after that day! Thanks to them Shueisha got interested in places like Raw-Paradise. Now series with a small fanbase will have to suffer, while mainstream mangas will get their weekly dose some way or another.

Re: GLO 98
tl;dr: scanlating may become risky, but raw scanning may be even more risky.
On Raw-Paradise's forum, among other posts on the subject, there was this:
So, TargaryenX or whoever scan the Ultra Jump, don't make the raw public. Scanlating has lower risks, but raw scanning appears to be quite more risky.
As for discussing about the next raw provider, don't discuss it on a public forum. Talk about it in PMs, or make a private forum, open only to a few people.
... well, that's just a(some) suggestion(s)...
Nope. Winny is long dead, due to security leak (lolz). Then, there was Share, but same thing, security leaks (not-so-lolz), so the software was abandonned. Now, they use something called Perfect Dark. Strange name for a p2p software... It's not that hard to configure (you can choose the interface language from Japanese or English), but I'm not even sure I did it correctly. There's a downside to this software: You have to download 40 Gb of random files before you can download anything you want. Yeah, 40 Gb... I tried, but for unknown reason, my downloaded "random files" (called "Unity") was stuck at 15 Mb, while downloading at 100 kb/s for 2 days... Maybe you'll have more luck.crazyankan wrote:Does anybody know if Winny is still a useful way to find raws?
On Raw-Paradise's forum, among other posts on the subject, there was this:
Some other posts also seemed to warn about an incoming Shueisha's action against raws' scanners and maybe scanlators. There's obviously no proof of that yet, but when we'll have the proofs (if proof there is), it will be too late.Heiji-sama wrote:In no particular order:
1 - I've stopped a month and a half ago, so about the "watermarks", I'm not involved.
2 - Kodansha is hunting scanners. They were succesful with MangaHelpers, but not with Rena-chan. I also was on their list, so I prefered to stop. Kodansha is really preparing something. For exemple, they're thinking about MangaFox for a start.
3 - Shueisha has announced in Jump (2,000,000 sold per week) that they won't accept anymore piracy and will take big measures [[[cf. Crazy's post]]]. So, I understand Raw-Paradise's reaction. (...) Furthermore, they seem to be planning something for this summer.
So, little by little, each editor is starting to take into account chapters' piracy. All good things come to an end.
We don't want to take anymore risks and want to "do other things" [[[loose translation]]]. Anyway, there's still MangaHelpers left, japanese p2p, independant scanners, in short I think there still will be people to scan.
Anyway, this is the end for Raw-Paradise, but life continues.
Edit: I don't know if it sped up things for Shueisha, but since a little while ago, people (idiots?) go on Kubo's Twitter (Bleach's author) and congratulate him or make comments on a chapter, even before Jump's release.

Re: GLO 98
We had this problem in Sweden with "the scene" (all the groups that rips dvd's). The "anti pirate bureau" made some actions against some of the "the scene" FTP's. Lots of groups disappeared and many uploaders on private trackers disappeared, trackers went down and 50% of the internet usage stopped in Sweden.
People started to use seedboxes instead, stuff to hide their identity, lots of new trackers came up and the scene started to encrypt their stuff even more.
Only after about a month, all was exactly the same...the difference was that we started to download even more
The people the police caught was Direct Connect users and FTP owners. But still none of them have been sent to jail or had to pay fines
I am sure it will be a hydra effect, many more raw providers will start scanning when the old ones disappears.

Re: GLO 98
Well i guess there will be others to provide scans. You just have to find them.
Also i think the whole raw spreading around the internet is a double edged things.
On one hand it really is a form of piracy and might lower the sales.
But on the other hand it allows many manga to find a fanbase in foreign countries far before the series is published there.
People can also get far more easily intrest in certain manga.
I openly admit the only reason i became a Gunnm fan was because i found scans of the first books online.
And after having read the entire series i bought the books, since it simply feels more right having them analog (also making it easier to reread them instead of having to visit a site with low loading rate or downloading it).
I buy all manga which i really considered worth following after having read them online.
Likewise for Last Order, i spoil myself with raws, but then i still buy the books.
But yeah, i can understand the mangaka. Still i hope they won't start a witch hunt to track down all the raw and translations sites. Especialy since i think it might actualy damage the manga sales more than the piracy, since i bet there are many more who get intrested in newer manga via the internet.
Also if we won't find another site for raws, it means i will have to wait nearly 1 or 2 years before i finaly learn what's going to happen.

Re: GLO 98
See my case. No one publishes Last order in Brazil (and no one is going to publish it, as Brazilian publishers are desperate for best sellers and would never waste time with a reduced readership). Brazilian publishers fight an open war after titles like Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Full metal Alchemist and the like. Such titles are published here even before Europe and USA. Would you believe that they simply gave up publishing EDEN after volume 11? The best definition is: mercenaries!!othergrunty wrote: I openly admit the only reason i became a Gunnm fan was because i found scans of the first books online.

Anyway, I am registered in a Japanese book store here in São Paulo and, once there is no Brazilian edition, I buy the original Japanese one - although I do not read a simple character. Also, I have noticed that many people who read many Japanese/Korean titles in Internet version bought the books as they were released in Brazil. Thus, I daresay that scanlators make great and free publicity to mangakas and publishers. They would certainly sell less if scanlators did not exist. It seems that Shueisha is learning mercenariness from Brazilian publishers - even because JBC, the greatest one, has offices in Japan.
Re: GLO 98
it looks like no-one gave these arguments to shueiha... coz of course, the real life truth is that scans popularity tells the editors what licenses to acquire and what to translate to their market...

Argh i just saw the preview picture on the Jump page. Looks like Zekka hit Sechs into a dream sequence (it shows Sechs having an illusion of being underwater) so now i really want to know what's happening.

What's with Sechs' hair? Looks blond and fluffy, almost like Lou's. If at least the text would be text, but its a picture. So we can't copy it to receive a crappy auto-translation.

I don't think he is blonde to resemble Lou, it's just an attemp to make an "underwater" color distortion.
