Is Viz halting publishing on BAALO?

I ask this because I've noticed many of the original books (vol. 2, vol. 7, possibly vol. 8) and many of the LO novels (vols. 2, 3, 5, 7,) are not available anymore, or take 1-2 months to ship (which means that Amazon no longer has them). And the ones not mentioned above are running out of stock at places like Amazon.

Why won't they publish these OOP ones anymore when the series is still going? Vol. 2 of the original series is going for $60-99 on ebay and Amazon, same with vol. 7 of LO.

I've tried emailing VIz, but of course they never respond.

Anyone know what is going on?

I've been having the same problem here too. I tried ordering GLO volumes 1 and 2 but apparently 2 wasn't possible to get at the time. So after I decided on 1 and 4 I went back and ordered 2,3,5 and its been over a month now but they still haven't gotten them from their supplier. I really don't want them to get to my store with a 150$ bill on it.

Apparently my boss has connections through to Viz because he does orders through them so I'll get him to make a couple calls :)
Although he's usually full of crap so I wouldn't hold my breath on this working....

Well, if Kishiro breaks with Shueisha, Viz, as Shueisha's licensee, will not continue publishing his work. It's contractual, simply.
If that's the case, the only solution will be waiting for the new publishers. Remember that Gunnm belongs to Kishiro, not to Shueisha. thus, he can move to other publishers with his entire portfolio.

Is that the case for Japan? I simply don't know. Here, the publishing house buys the rights to pubish a work. If an author wants to move, he has to break the contract (matter of time and money) or wait until the contract ends.

Kodansha means that VIZ (and any other publisher) has to undertake new negotiations, yes. I don't want to even start thinking about the rat-tail of this hiatus in the foreign (meaning: in our) countries. Surely one year or more.
All the same, I hope that Kishiro will sign what is best for him and his work.

@the VIZ-issue: Try amazon.co.uk maybe, they seem to have them in stock. Would be bad though, if VIZ decides ahead to not reprint the edition once its out of stock :/

I wouldn't mind if someone else got the right for France, to be honest. Glénat does a very poor job on LO. I'd gladly buy every volume again to support any new editor that gives us a more professional work.

I just looked there; it's even worse! The only volume that isn't severely-understocked, not available new, or just not available, is 13 of LO!!!

I have both series in their entirety (thank heaven!), but what if one is lost or damaged? And what about potential new fans? And what if the series is picked up by a new publisher, who decides to not republish the original series or even the first part of LO?

My ideal would be that Dark Horse picks it up, translates it true to the Japanese dialogue (not like the VIz over-censoring, they totally screwed up Zechs getting hit on by Zekka in vol. 10!) and publishes it in a larger, nicer format.

Or try eBay. Why not? I bought the entire second edition at once from eBay.

Wasnt were a new edition of GLO in work, with new Covers and so on. May be Viz just doesnt want to produce the old one anymore and desidet to wait for the new edition. Plus the hiatus from Kishiro. May be they just sitting back and wait, before they continue to produce a series which might not be continued.

Bah! They're not so perfectionist. If it'll continue or not is irrelevant. The important is to sell right now, believe me.

I think they really are stopping it; they are actually putting several volumes on sale. They have never done that in the 6 or so years I've been a fan!

Even the library bound editions are going on sale and getting close to out of stock. It's strange to think of something I've seen change and grow, that has been a part of my life for nearly a decade, possibly cease.

I can bear it if the series ends at the actually ending, even if it is short (like Scott Pilgrim), but to have a series just end out of the blue and not know what happens makes me not want to read it anymore, simply because it hurts to know it will never conclude.

I know there is the Gunnm: Martian Memory translation (which I downloaded but have not read). I would love to play that game, but it's a Japanese-region PS game =P

Dang ;-(*)

Just get an unblocked PS1 or a PS1 emulator and have fun.

I would like to porchase the second edition of BAA by Viz, but even if they are still available I can't, I'm already purchasing a lot of manga series at the same time =(
