Why do some figurines look so different from others? Example

The promotional images are all too often different from the actual product. The second image link you posted is the actual final product; I know because I'm sitting here looking at my own little Gally (so lucky

)
I remember an Alter figure I bought of a character from the video game series Xenosaga; in the promo pics she had blue hair that was solid, IE you couldn't see through it, and an overall blueish outfit. When I got the actual product, the hair was semi-transparent purple and the outfit was much more white, which I actually preferred.
So that's why =D

The first one is a promotional piece or a painted prototype. The second is the mass produced version. To the best of my knowledge no bootlegs of this figure exist.

Thanks guys. Its amazing how much better the first one looks compared to the second it makes the second one look fake oh well its a shame I won't be able to purchase the first model.
