5 years, I re-read it completely once in a year or half a year, but never open the manga in between the readings.

Last time I've opened the manga was last march - it's more than a has passed year already, and the last phase I've read was 96.

I'll re-read it again, when I'll have spare time. Unfortunately, I can't have a month of free evenings right now. :x

I got exposed to MANGA while stationed in Japan in 73:D

While working in Hollywood I got turned on to Gunnm by the guy who "drew" in the digital underwear for Sailor Moon's transformation, 96 or 97.
This was partly the cause of my learning Japonese...

I knew Alita from the mid 90s, when the movie was released in Italy. But it wasn't until 2000 I started following the manga.

I have no clue. I think it was before BAA:LO, so maybe about 11 years ago or something?

Been a while, I remember bought some magazine in the late 90s with the two OVAs included in VHS format, that was the first time I heard about Alita and Gunnm. But It was in the year 2007 or 2008 (I don't remember exactly) when I started to read the manga... and I started from Last Order so the entire HFV part was somewhat spoiled for me.

I'm getting old quickly.

I was accidentally attracted by a book I saw in a newsstand (periodicals in general are sold in newsstands here) in 2002.
The great problem is that the publishers limited themselves to the first volume.
In 2003 JBC started from the scratch and even completed HFV. Unfortunately, the volumes were split in two.
Only in 2007 I found out this community, and people never never got rid of me.

For me, I remember that I've bought the second volume of the first serie when it was out, I think it was in 1995 or so, I was quite young, but the worse was the long wait between the releases of the volumes which was taking quite a long time in France a that moment. It was the very beginning of the manga culture. Good old days!!

Total 10784 posts in this forum, and you have done 1649 of them. It's about 15%. Not bad at all :P

I think I heard about BAA indirectly in high school because at the time my favorite manga was Ranma 1/2. During this time Viz was also printing BAA in comic bok form and I actually remember a line from their promos mentioning that she was going after Desty Nova at one point. However I can't recall when I actually started reading it.

I borrowed the OVA and copied it from VHS, so for sure pre-1997. I have all of the first print versions by Viz and because of the price point at the time ($25 for vol. 1!) and my then income situation, I used to wait for a local comic shop to do its semi-yearly sale to get 20% off.

GUNMM met in early 2010, when I was visiting a comics shop, and saw for the last volume (the 18th by JBC) and I looks like me.

I bought the manga and started reading the story at the end, as a forgetful.

I decided to read Last Order after understanding the whole concept of Hyper Future Vision.

When Yukito drew the very first GLO sketch, I was there looking over his shoulders!

That was a joke Sergio...

I started reading GLO in the second half of 1998, when I purchased the Viz edition of Angel of Death in a local comic store. I was feeling (very) depressed since I moved to Brasilia (Brazil's national capital) and I was searching for something nice to read. In the same way was also my first contact with Gunsmith Cats by Kenichi Sonoda, another excellent manga.

Probably you don't know Sergio, but that first apparition of BAA here in Brazil was a pirated edition. The responsible was a motherfucker well known in our anime/manga circles due to his bad reputation, a previous editor of the Anim@x magazine. I won't type his name here because it's possible he subscribe to this forum just because of that, his ego loves any kind of attention, even if it is bad, and he is a troll far, far worse than I ever was!

After that first bogus volume of BAA, I thought that we would never see Alita again in our newsstands because of the piracy, so when JBC started publishing it in a proper way, I was very delighted.

I'm glad there is someone here older than me. The passing years wouldn't so bad if we could avoid aging.

Of course I am aware of the events. I read all about it. As a matter of fact, your words do not retract the reality. The edition itself was not piracy. The contract that sold the rights to Opera Graphica publishers was a fraud - that is, the publishers were naïve and stupid, but they were also victims. At least, JBC is really professional, so when they started publishing we could be certain we would have the complete series - the first arc, at least, as we did have. People at JBC are professionals, indeed (no matter the sense you want to give), but not retarded. As the series sold far from the expected, they will never publish Last Order. Ashen Victor? Forget that. Extra stories? What are you talking about?)

Obs.: Do you really believe he subscribes to this forum? That would be a great reason to denounce him. Anyway, there aren't many Brazilians here (at least not Brazilians known to be Brazilians, I mean).

I doubt Gil is older than I, but I have already adhered to Methuselyzation, so in my case age means experience only. :D

Really? I'm applying to be a vampire, but methuselyzation is a better way to become immortal.

Yes, there is a big chance. Recently there was a rumor that he was died, but knowing how much he seeks for attention, I think that was also fake.

The Opera Graphica publishers knowing or not, doesn't void the fact that it was piracy, but thanks for adding better information about the case.

I am so old that I fart dust!
FYI, I am 58 and retired early. A fan of BALO for quite some time now cuz of the great art and story line.
Getting old is cool, and since we can do nothing about death I had done many things out of the ordinary. I used to believe in reincarnation, but that was in my other life.
