It's not for 3 years, but I am thinking of attending the World Cup in 2014 and a big reason for that is because it will be in Brazil before going on to Russia and Qatar, which I feel with be wet blankets in comparison (Russia because of its security paranoia and Qatar because it's a Muslim country). Besides, who can beat Brazil when it comes to the passion for football. I have started saving up for it, but I still have a while to go However I'm thinking right now of staying in one location and watching the final in Rio, regardless of who will be in it.

I'm not fond of watching football, as well as other sports. It's fun to play yourself (and you're having some physical exercise), and absolutely boring to watch someone else play.

I just don't see any reason for wasting my time watching people going after a ball. And I don't understand why it's so popular (an excuse to get drunk on a stadium?).

By the way - I've been to an Egypt several times (and it's a muslim country). It was perfectly normal - it's a popular international resort place (there were lots of russian, german, swedish, and french tourists there). I think, Quatar is the same.

I love to watch football. Never miss a match with the Swedish national team and I don't miss any of the Liverpool FC matches.

Brazil would be really good on their home turf...but I think that Germany will take the gold medal. So many great young players and a real solid play by the national team.

So I guess you will not be going to watch in person when it comes to Russia in 2018.

I would be rooting for the USA with Germany being my #2 favorite.

Just my opinion, this is one of those once in a lifetime things to experience, and this is coming from someone whose favorite spectator sport to watch is American football. Everyone has their own favorite sports to watch or others they could care less about. E.g., I could care less about basketball or ice hockey - so while I am keeping tabs on how the NBA and NHL playoffs are progressing, it doesn't matter to me who wins.

Qatar is a Gulf State and I would rather be wrong, but my understanding is that the Gulf States tend to be more conservative than other parts of the Middle East which are more Westernized, except for Dubai. Besides, do you ever hear of anyone visiting Qatar as a tourist? But we'll see.

I wouldn't expect you to be so intolerant. Watching people running after a ball, or watching people playing musical instruments is essentially the same: that is, you admire people who do certain things better than you would do. I believe you have heard about ability and dexterity. Well, such things are not fairy tales. They do exist.

People get drunk while watching soccer in a variety of places. Also, many of them get drunk before or after the game.

The only bullshit is yours. This is a very private question. I have never been dunk in my whole life, while many who have never been to a stadium are constantly drunk - or drugged. I was only pointing out the fact that the relationship between soccer, stadiums and getting drunk does in fact not exist, as in the hypotetic soccer-stadium-getting drunk triad proposed by moooV is plain bullshit.

Actually, FIFA (as well as CBF) has been considering São Paulo out of the World Cup. It may seem absurd, once the best Brazilian football (or what remains of Brazilian football) takes place in São Paulo, but neither the City Hall nor the State Government intend to spend public money in private business - and, yes!, football is private business.

It would be a tragedy if Sao Paolo were excluded. When I think of Brazil it's one of the 2 cities that comes to mind (Rio is the other one). I guess we'll see.

So... Argentine will be crowned as the new world champion in Brasil? That would be priceless for sure haha, next world cup will be really interesting.

I was joking, actually I don't belive that Argentine could make in the finals. I consider that Lionel Messi is a very overrated player and useless for our team... of course, unless we get Xavi and Iniesta and we know that is ridiculous and impossible In any case Maradona could be a douchebag, but he was a good player.

Just to keep disagreeing, I will have to say that Lionel Messi is NOT overrated. He IS great.
And even Maradona was a great player.
In 1990, for example, Argentina had one of the worst teams in Argentine history, but there was Maradona, the great difference. One simple movement and Maradona was able to put a player in condition to make a goal and Argentina defeated Brazil. Yes, you could say the Brazilian goalkeeper was a fake, but Argentina won 1-0 shooting the goal just once in an entire game. In short, the genial player made the difference.
