I think that the Tom Cruise film, "Oblivion" may appeal particularly to fans of Battle Angel, pre-Last Order.

I haven't found any similarities at all when I watched it.

I'll post spoilers in a week. I said themes, so you have to think a bit abstractly.

Ok, so it is pretty abstract but Tom Cruise's character has no memory. He seems to be a total fucking bad ass. He works with an operator like helper on top of a mountain...and she reports up higher to an ominous floating citadel.

It is a post apocalyptic world.

When Tom Cruise finds out that he is a combat unit, cloned for his job, it really hits him in the face. The hardest part is that he/that clone in particular has had his memories jarred loose by reuniting with the original Tom Cruise's wife.

The scene when Morgan Freeman tells him that the earth was attacked by thousands of clones of him, mindless killing machine versions, Tom Cruise plays it really low but it is a painful, painful moment for the character/clone. It really reminded me of the fury Gally showed when she found out about the AR-series.

Also towards the end there is a shot of a clone growing wall thing, and it seemed like a nice solid homage to the tipharean baby growing wall thing...so there is that overt nod as well.
