I always thought that crashed warship Yoko and Erica had to walk to looked somewhat familiar.
Spoiler:
My guess is that YK took the Arcadia (Captain Harlock) as a basis.

And it wasn't Grunthal yet, makes way more sense.

Whew! Glad it's out! I really like it!
Spoiler:
I'm wondering how it's going to fit in the main story though, is this just a flash back or the whole history of Alita/Gally/Yoko's life. Because if it is, I don't see how this could be the last series due to the big gaps in things and what not. Actually I kinda am hoping for another series honestly c_c I do like long series although most people don't feel the same way... none the less, it's a big universe!

Also who'd want to hurt poor baby Yoko?? She's so cute! :(

Spoiler:
I think is just a flashback, just too make as feel why they're relationship is important. I mean why scould we care about the relationship between the 2 girls. And also to better understand the "condition" that lead to the creation of " the rutless Yoko" we saw in Last order

Uhm, look at the last panel from last page. So, the former name of Gally is, actually, Yohko?

i noticed that too, but I think the name is Yoko. She was always written Yoko. And the H is very close the Y in the keybord. I would bet on the mistake.

I've mentioned that a while ago.
http://forum.rippersanime.info/viewtopi ... 729#p14729

I don't recall to see her name directly written by the author in the previous chapters. So basically, her name was always translated from japanese to roman writting. In this case, it's the first time it is. It appears in the original scan, not the translated one, so unless Yukito made a mistake writting it in the drawing, it's not a typo. Maybe her name in German, or actually how Yukito want it to be written in German, is with an 'H'

I have Jap friends whoes name is Yoko, so this could be the way Eng write it. Maybe you are rigth in the eng/german pronunciation. Yukito does prefer german.

I really don't want to get another name herew: Alita/Gally/Yoko/Yhoko @_@

thanks a lot to everyone involved to bring this to us; the image quality is amazing, and it came just in time for I could not stand these idiotic watermarks any longer!!!
really why would you do that!!!!

Exactly we have to wait for Kodansha to announce the name they are going to go with: Gunnm Mars/martian chronicles
chronicles of mars?

One thing is sure though I can see a panzer Kunst training accident happening to these girls in the near future, unless the bounty hunters come and to slaughter all the girls in the orphanage.

The flashbacks have always been triggered by some event or circumstances that jar Alita's memory. So this time is different, or something is happening back in the present that will be revealed.

Now that we kinda ar in topic, did anyone notice (from a panel in which the Space Karate Allies team roster appeared) that the actual name of Don Fua was Donphyr?

This is not the first time his "actual" name is shown. Such differences will always appear, once the names are presented in kanas e later in latin characters, and transliterations as always problematic. The same has happened with Sechs (Xechs) and Zazie (Xazi), but anyone with a minimal idea of German language would know that such "original" names are misspellings. But it is true that the official translation has already committed Germancide, as when writting Grunthal instead of Grüntal. At least, the new translators corrected that.

Hey guys,

about the name :

They wrote Yohko, but you could write it Yôko, Youko or even Yo-ko, depending on the transcription norm/ technic you choose to follow or even create...

It's just to let you know that the "YO" syllable in YO-KO is two times longer than the "KO" syllable.

If you look at the first page of the raw, when she says her name, this is the furigana used beside her kanji name to give you the reading : ヨーコ

http://iprc.soest.hawaii.edu/users/furue/jp-pron.html

Read it to understand, and focus on number 6 for this manner : "6. A long vowel comprises two syllables."

You are right, as there are, indeed, many transcription rules, but the official Japanese Romaji transcription would be Yōko. Once the macro is not always possible in Western writing, it is acceptable to write Yôko. All the other variations are considered misspellings by Japanese rules, and once Kishiro is Japanese, he made an error, simply (alternatively, the Martians are still making the same error).

That's not an error, that only depends on the romaji system used. There are at least 3 systems used in Japanese and all of them are acceptable. Here

I said wrong if compared to the official transliteration. Anyway, I don't speak Japanese and don't have knowledge to affirm anything from a particular point of view.

If Ninon ends up being one of Limeira's ancestors I will be very surprised.

Not quite sure what all the fuzz about the spelling of a Name is.
If the Original has indeed been written ヨーコ then, according to my Japanese Guide for Stupid ( that's me ), it's been done like this:
ヨ = YO
ー = Extend the last sound by doubling it - The last sound was O from YO so YO becomes YOO.
コ = KO
You're now looking at: YOOKO
That's for the Katakana writing system.

YOUKO which is still the same pronunciation with double OO is, as far as I know, caused by the Hiragana writing System where instead of using ー to double the last sound you actually write it: AA, II, UU, EE, OO. But because of a rule that is true for like 95% of the time the Japanese decided to change the spoken OO into a written OU and the spoken EE into written EI.

And then there's stuff like YOHKO which simply appears to be the English written version of a Japanese spoken YOOKO.
So technically only the Variants that make proper use of a doubled O with nothing else should be used.

But that's coming from someone who only just began learning Japanese so yeah... about my credibility on what I just wrote ;)
