Grunthal bombing was quite ineffective, a lot of people survived. Yukito keeps creating more and more characters. I wonder how many "ex instructors" Alita had, now there are four of them! (remember that there was one shown only once in Battle Angel Alita whose name wasn't said)

Grünthal didn't look to be a small deal. When i used to train Sanda in a very small WuShu school i used to have 2 trainers. There where at last 4 more in the whole school and, of course, the official school master. Then, senior students used to train beginners in the first steps every now and then.

Hmm, new faces, not much explanation. I hope we don't get too much flashback incoming. Erika alone looks like she could have her own volume.

For Erika's modern Panzer Kunst technic, I would go with Panzer Zeit An (Panzer time on, in German). It fits phonologically and it's not complete gibberish.

By the way, has anybody ever compiled a list of Panzer Kunst technics and discussed the names? I'm pretty sure I have a few explanations for some of the terms used. Seeing Verschlag written Verschlak in the French translation makes me cringe every time (and don't get me started on the V-mutant fiasco)...

V-mutant fiasco? What do you mean?

I think he is referring to the venusian mutant monsters, Homme du Feu's gang.

When the book introducing Caerula first came out in France, the translated explanation M'Badi gave to his soldiers about her mutation was: "this woman has a structural alteration shaped like a V". I did not understand it then.
The German translation, which I later bought, gave me the solution: "this woman has a mutation in her blood cells. She has a type-V blood mutation, or, simply said, she is a vampire.".

All in all one of the biggest translation failures I know.

Edit: actually, the translations for Venus are not too bad.
Homme du feu is a reference to Jules Verne and his novel les Indes Noires. The Homme du Feu, also called the Penitent, was a miner charged with igniting gas pockets in the mine, before they could explode and take down the mine. He was clad in a frock, reminescent of a monk's robe. Take a look at Ygrec's clothes when he is first introduced, it looks eerily like a monk's frock.
Bigorne and Chicheface are also well translated. You can even hear some old persons talk about "se bigorner" (for "se disputer") in Poitou (personnally heard my grandmother use the term). Chicheface is old French for "meager face", so, it fits too.

Yes! Scanlators do it better.
As to the points about Homme du Feu, Bigorne and Chicheface, they are already pointed out in the glossary and in the wiki as well.

I know about the info on Homme du Feu in the wiki: I was the one who post it on the forum, originally...My username is not Invincible, by the way (no harm done, I'm not whining, just pointing out a little mistake).
