Well, I'm afraid this is how it's gonna end somehow...
For me the original ending was just a glimpse of what should have really happen, but the end is not all the story and the part with Mars, is the one I'm really waiting for!

Not sure if this should go under spoiler cover, but i cover it, just in case.

At the present time, Alita's Imaginos body + brainchip + wormhole_inside + fata_morgana_program + crazy_shonen_powerups has marged with the onion frame and crashed on the moon not to bi find again. That can cover the original ending part where Alita merges with the orbital lift itself. My hypotesis is that for the next arc, Alita will be rebuilt again, maybe by Super Nova, from her human + matusalized original brain. Remember, her brain is connected to the Melchizedec, yet it hasn't been inserted in the net, it's in a kind of glass jar of his own, under control and free access from Super Nova. So we might get a "Hi! I'm a real kid now!" ending, as for the original ending. Yet, Yukito put a certain enphasys on Figure 4 being a cybord "finally". So maybe this time is a "Ok, we are cyborgs and happy with that" ending.
