Nothing, still check the evening kodansha website every bi weekly to check updates and there is nothing. No reason or explanation of why there is a hiatus, could be a coronavirus related reason who knows best way to deal with this hiatus is to think about other things

I do believe if it would be covid-19 they would say so. And there are other manga are coming out. But when there are no news for long time, is time to worry.

Anyway, I've just made another round of research and the only bit of info I found is the Japanese edition of the 7th volume of Mars Chronicle changing its release date twice: first from May 22th to June 23rd, and now from June 23rd to September 23rd. I scrolled through Evening's tweets, and there's no mention of Alita nor Kishiro in their tweets from June and May.

For now I choose to blame the pandemic as well as hope for the best. Being a fan of less popular and/or less frequently released stuff is a waiting game even in normal circumstances, anyway.

I also found this. Can't believe they actually replied! Though I'm pretty sure the reply would be the same if they actually had plans to release the anime.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's over. More like... stabilized. At least in my corner of Europe.

What if he has/had the virus? He's a very private person; would the public know if he was sick/recovering? Or if someone close to him was sick or even died? And we do know he had some depressive episodes. Having depression doesn't gel well with the pandemic, at least from a couple of my friends' and my experience.

All this aside, I have a feeling he's stuck and/or going through a writer's block.

That's what i meant, Silverly. Something might have happened directly to Kishiro (or his personal circle). It cannot be just "there is the lock down, i can't go to my studio".

no i think this is the site where kishiro his thoughts in japanese http://yukitolog.blogspot.com/. Though he hasn't updated it since March. Not even an update on his birthday which is surprising as he always blogs about his birthday. I wish there was more transparency on why there is a hiatus, even an unforeseeable circumstance reason would suffice but we get no word on the reason.

A vague update: 22/7 at the virtual edition of San Diego Comic-Con Rodriguez will be in a panel about directing ad Alita:BA's director. I wonder if will have any news about Kishiro's current state. Unlikely, but maybe.

according to yukitolog the chapter will be publish on evening issue #18, which mean it will be 25th august(or 1st september if the magazine skip a week for golden week related purposes). It seems he is currently addicted to a video game called ghost of tsushima according to his blog, which was released around 17th july. At least the man seems to be in good health which i say is important for mangaka to take care of their of themselves as it can be stressful to draw manga
