I just hope this movie will have more terminator vibes than Avatar's and titanic's. Too much romance would kill it for me.

Hi, I've been like a year reading this forum and I have decided to post some news about the BAA film. Sorry for the mistakes I may do at writing.

At MarketSaw, there's an interview with Cameron and he says this:

Regarding whether Avatar 2 will be his next project: "There's a possibility of doing another picture in between. But I think we'll certainly get busy talking about what the strategy is, when it makes sense to do it, and laying any technical groundwork that needs to be done. These are big projects."

Could that be BAA? hope so.

Hi everyone,
It seems that Yukito speaks about Cameron and its future Gunnm movie in the BBS section of the Yukito website.

http://jajatom.moo.jp/frame.html#/detai ... 0674405026

I am not sure at all about that, but if TargaryenX can have a look to this, it could be interesting.

ps.: the link is not the good one, so in the yukito japanese page, third orange item on the left side and then first item (the blue one).

I really count on Avatar 2 that it can delay the BAA movie at least, and, in ideal case, cancel it. I don't want idiots of all the world to know about it.

You'll see one, maybe.

I think when the BAA movie is finally out (if ever), 3D will be like an all-day cinema-experience. Like color film is not only standard today but black-and-white is a certain form of art. Even more with the silent film. A "normal", thus 2D movie would then be recognized as strange. Therefore, the BAA movie won't attract too many people like Avatar did cause many people just watched Avatar for the wow-effect. So, BAA could even fail at the movies and that'd be bad for the manga as well...

Kishiro doesn't really say much on his blog. He's worried that Avatar will be too successful and the sequel will bump out BAA, and he's concerned about how well panzer kunst will translate into action scenes.

It will be a huge wow-effect, because this is JC. After watching Avatar I've started seriously appreciating him.

What about YK, he'd better be worried about an army of lemmings who will build up a false opinion about his work!

A false opinion? What does that even mean? Are you trying to imply that your fandom is better than other people's fandom? Personally I think it would be great if it was turned mainstream with a movie, the fanbase is practically nonexistant (at least in English, haven't checked Japanese forums).

I've written it about 50 times here, I'll write it one more.

It is a masterpiece - it shouldn't be mainstream. Turning it into a hype, then into a trend will obviously ruin it. Do you want seeing huge posters with it everywhere? Do you want seeing it in each news program on TV? Do you want to see cheap toys of it everywhere? Do you want idiots around you (just look around, pick 10 people randomly - 9 of them are idiots) to talk about it? Do you want them to build their opinion on the manga falsely in case the movie is heavily adapted (I'm sure, it will be - else it won't be successful enough due to lack of the audience coverage)?
Moreover, it won't increase manga's fanbase much - only a fraction of a fraction of a percent will go read the original. This is the law of the first impression multiplied by the stupidity of the masses.

You're willing to ruin it all for a small fanbase increment (by random people mostly).

I don't want to explain it further and I'm just tired of explaining it every time anew. Here is my previous post, some more in-detail.

I guess I just don't see why being mainstream or not has anything to do with how good it is. I really don't see how having stupid people like it will "ruin" anything. That's just misguided anti-conformism. If you refuse to like something just because a lot of stupid people also like it, you must have very limited interests. I don't feel like I'm a unique and special snowflake because I found this hidden gem of a manga. If anything I'm a bit wanting for people to talk about it with. I answered "yes" or "don't care" to all of your rhetorical questions, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. FYI, the sales of the Watchmen graphic novel increased 10-fold after the trailers started showing in theaters.

I tend to agree int 29Ah, having my favourite manga turning hype is bothering me.
if for anything because I don't want to have people raving about how good this totally new movie is, and totally misunderstanding it, and I will have to explain to them what it is all about and all.
But above all I don't want to find an Alita charm in a twelvth night cake the way I found an avatar charm this year. yuk!!!
And yeah i guess, my fandom is something really personnal i keep for myself, not better than other's but private, and if the movie is a betrayal I don't want people to like it for the wrong reasons but if it is a success well why not share it a bit. Provided they are not obnoxious twelve year old know it alls, of course.

Hey, I resent that statement! Ok not really, but I did actually begin reading BAA when I was in 6th grade, hence 11-12 years old. Probably one of the larger influences on my decision to pursue a career in the visual arts field.

I don't refuse to like something because everyone else does. I won't stop liking gnm because of it.
What I meant was that I'll have to cope with all these people, who haven't seen (and are unwilling to see) the original thing, but make conclusions about it based on a movie. This is going to be really painful for me, because I tend to take it personally.

I don't feel unique either, but my point is that one does not have the right to judge/make conclusions about something if he/she doesn't know the subject in-depth. To have a point, speaker should at least know what he's talking about. But most of people won't even bother.

that's what I meant, though you made it sound clearer

to Alemfi
please don't resent that I don't bear any grudge against people who started reading BAA at twelve, I wish I had, I just can't bear those kids who act as though they know everything, better than you whereas you have been a fan for years and they have only discovered the manga Two weeks before.
Let me tell you a thing that happened to me recenty, a friend brought me back some manga I had lent him, he wanted me to lend him berserk but I deemed he was a bit young so I refused. In order to convince me he told me that he had already read volume 1 and volume 00 and had liked it. I finally lent him something else instead, and he seemed to like it.
I know I am not as great a fan of Berserk as I am of BAA, but if berserk 00 had been released I'd know it. As I may not know everything I looked for it, and quite unsurprisingly the search was vain, it was never published in France and doesn't even exist. He may have been dying to read it, but trying to fool me... that's just pathetic.
that's the kind of know it alls I am referring to, and whose population will dramatically increase with the release of a movie. Although I admit, because it is James cameron directing it I'm quite enthusiastic.

For three years? he may well be one if he keeps talking to you all the time! but I hope he isn't obnoxious and conceited like so many are at that age. like "I know where it comes from, it from DC comics, its obvious that it is american, why would they adapt it otherwise?" like Int29Ah I wouldn't be able to bear it.
but if it appeals to intelligent people like it should be, whatever their age, I don't mind.
but you can't select them at the entrance of the movie theatre, can you?

Well, he is my sister's child, and she is even more annoying than I am. Considering that his father is the alike (otherwise he would never have married my sister), you can see he has whom to ask questions. Anyway, his 15yo brother is not so critic ( Let's say he is the bête noir in the family.).

No, Filipe would never confuse American and Japanese media, even because he reads both. Obviously, his repertoire does not allow him to understand every cultural references in Kishiro's works, but he learns fast.

Stupid people trying to seem expert do exist, but they are in all the age-groups. I myself know lots of them who are even older than my grandfather. I believe you have lived the same experience.

Hi, maybe some of you will like these news, or not... I don't know what to think about. As I have found at MarketSaw:

[...]Will AVATAR 2 be James Cameron's next picture? The answer is... we don't know yet.[...] One thing is pretty much written in stone though - BATTLE ANGEL is back-burnered. It will either be THE DIVE or AVATAR 2 at this point.
