I'd like to cheer you up a bit. Wow! You've finally changed it.

Personally, I don't like the new forum theme, BUT... it's just because of the habit, that's all. Everyone is used to the old one - that's normal. Every site's design change is taken with hatred for the old users, but then they forget about it and even start liking it.

A simple example - the Facebook. When it has changed it's design from the old one (the one VK.com or vkontakte.ru has effectively stolen, even with all it's CSS and JS that time ), there were RIVERS of shit flowing - users were mad at the design change. I've left the facebook that time - I still can't navigate it successfully ( ). However, if you ask anyone around you about the facebook, they'll tell you that they LOVE the new design. Even those, who hated it first - that's a power of a habit.

Your site's new appearance is a lot better. I daresay, it's a GIANT difference for GOOD.

I think, 90% of the visitors simply closed the tab when they saw it - just because it looked as if it was made by a teenage girl in an old Front Page Express. Moreover, the top image was just killing people. Yes, serious forum and topics, but if you show it to anyone they will ask "this place can't be serious, it's childish".
TargaryenX wrote:I really don't like the header image. I'm embarrassed to visit this site in public places because of it.
Me too. At least, no one will get embarrassed to open it from now on.

To be completely honest, I've never liked the design of your site - the old one, nor the new one. Also, I've never used anything here except the forum and manga download links. But that's personally me, it has nothing to do with the audience.

What about the audience - they all will get used to it: progress is inevitable anyway. Leave it all as it is now - it's a good thing.
Seriously, this nightmare is gone - everyone will forget about it in several months. Remember, how everyone shouted when you've upgraded to PhpBB 3? They've just forgot about it.

Everything will be fine - cheer up!

PS.
And a small request - the images, which are wider than the forum, are cut. I don't think that everyone who has ever posted them will resize them and edit the posts (I don't want either). If you don't beleive, take a look at my topic about 3d.

I'd suggest you editing some widths into percent instead of fixed pixels.

As a quick fix if you're lazy - just remove the "overflow: hidden" property in the ".content" class of the theme's CSS. Yes, big images will go through the borders, but they will be displayed whole.

PSPS.
Edit:

I've posted the message - it's readability is quite bad: black font on a dark-grey background. I've nearly broken my eyes. The lighter color gets overridden in your CSS.

I'm using a 15 inch-screened notebook right now. Here's the illustration of the second problem affected by the first!

I know that the most users of this forum will want to kill me for this suggestion, but... you should upgrade the smileys set also.

Found a nice MOD for phpbb3 to resize the included images from the [img] tags.
Its a javascript, that does resizing and making a link, but still it works.
Not really another way to do it without forcing forum image uploads and disabling external images.
max-width on image either not gets a 1:1 ratio image in browsers or isn't accepted at all...yay for IE

Changed the color of the BG1 div brighter then the BG2 div instead of the darker one.
It works, more readable don't ya think?
#888888 instead of #555555 :)

Updated the smilies, and added a few.
However i won't go for the animated HELL that plagues soo many forums.
There was this package of 472 smilies i could have installed... :P

Anyway i took this forum style since i was thinking...
Why style a site and create a matching forum template, while you can use a free forum template you like and style your site accordingly.
Saves so much time on this creatively challenged mind.
The black/yellow i like :)

I've rewritten that mod's JS into a better thing.

I've added:

1) resolution bar
2) image opens in a new tab - popups don't piss me off anymore
3) faster
4) better looking - image's width is relative to the page size now, instead of fixed 750px
5) I'd execute the person who wrote it - it was terrible! Getting an image list at each iteration (sic!). Moreover, getting it twice at each iteration (SIC!!!). Also, EVAL=EVIL!!! Unforgivable.

PM'd the code.

By the way, what the hell is that? HENTAI ON A FORUM PAGE???

That looks way better :D
I noticed the screen flicker on resize with the old one.
Anyway any executing/maiming a person go here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 0&t=577794
Was the only one i found to resize external images.

As for the hentai warning.
Its part of the menu (imageboards->Hentai)
If you are on septon orange theme click on it to appear.
Its a disclaimer everyone ignores.
Still i have something to protect those precious souls that won't want to see naked anime characters that would scar their minds for life for watching the smut. :P
Maybe replace it with a message on the hentai board itself?
"If the images underneath are repulsive or offensive to you in any way then please don't look at them."

I've improved it some more. Now the big images and their signature inside the blockquotes are handled appropriately.

What about the guy - I don't care, it's his problem. Should have read some O'Reilly first.
Also, 95% of programmers produce crap. PhpBB is slow crap, Vbulletin is crap (it's even called "EvalBulletin" sometimes), 95% of the soft is crap. I refuse to make crap, that's why I've always had conflicts at work, and collegues kept telling me that I'm a heretic. I'd rather sacrifice time for quality than make fast and take the money.

Also, I hate object-oriented programming (assembler and pure C are my idols), I can't stand code indentation (assembler influence), and I tend to use only tools I've made myself instead of using frameworks.

Anyway, that's not the subject of the topic. PM'd the update.

So I tried again after you nerds styled it up ;) Wow that's much nicer!
I think I'll stick with it, it may still be a little unfamiliar but - to be fair - it is much better for my eye-health^^

One last thing, if I may:
I personally like to browse with my favorites-column open all the time. of course the forum-block gets smaller to compensate for the fav-column, but since I don't have a widescreen the resize isn't done properly ( I get a horizontal scroll bar). Is it possible to readjust this automatic resize option?

Oh and (very minor) I just realized that you get a (I if you write "brace open, no space, I"

smiley attack:  :stupid:  :stupid:

Ok the width is now as wide as you want it to be.
I may lock the min-width to the menu width to eleminate the scrollbar, but for now its limitless.
Scrollbar can be ignored, its menu related.
It does look like shit @ 100px wide ;P be warned.

The smiley was fixed by removing the : | link forcing you to use the Smilies bar on the right.

Also some other fixes... although its very close to prosilver code, there are a couple of bugs.
I've removed a lot of the outer divs that were useless (to me anyway) and fixed the border colors a bit.
Since i use mozilla firefox mostly i also checked it with IE 8, 7, 6 (endless battle) and opera.
They all seem to behave in a simmilar manner. (yay!)
But please report bugs if you see anything strange.

An idea - it would be good to embed youtube video into forum posts.

If you won't find a plugin for it, here are the regexps for preg_replace I've written a while ago (I haven't tested them about a year, maybe something has changed in youtube's code) - just add them into phpBB interpreter.

preg_replace(
'/\[video\]http:\/\/www\.youtube\.com\/watch\?v=([a-z0-9_]*)\[\/video\]/Uiu',
'<object width="640" height="385">
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/$1"></param>
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/$1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="385" wmode="transparent"></embed>
</object>
',
$text);

If the [img] tag was wrapped into [url] tag, original url got replaced with the link to the image itself thus loosing the original link.

What I've changed: if an image is wrapped into a link originally, the full-res image link is placed onto the label under the image. Also, the label is changed in that case - compare labels under these two images in my post.

What about test.fuck - heh, it's just a generic url I use to test things, that's a habit. Of course, it does not exist.

------------
I've noticed that bold in the label looks nearly undistinguishable from the rest of the label.
In the "click <b>here</b> for a full resolution" line of a function, change <b> into <u>. That will look better.

-----------------------

2 Sergio:

Have you found a grammar mistake in my posts? Then what meaning did that sentence have? :|

Ok, a small hint for you: "grammar nazi" is an internet slang term for representing people, who have an oversharpened perception of grammatical mistakes. What I've meant was that I usually re-read each post several times (more than 5) before posting it to ensure the mistake absense.

I guess, that's all directly applicable to you also.

Many!! As to me, I have made mistakes as well, in English, Spanish and Portuguese, especially when I'm in a hurry. It's only human.

2 cents:
- at the forum- and thread-overview, the usernames are white. Since the bar you touch with your mouse enlightens, the username becomes almost unreadable.
- links are also in white. The quotation box too is rather bright, so the links become invisible, see:

Bah the the youtube bbcode is somehow broken.
In IE8 you get weird back background on postings when you scroll...
I dunno why.

:Edit

Its not the youtube code itself, but something with <object> and the <div id="inside"> having a black background...
Remove the background color of the the "outside" div so it becomes transparent and the problem is gone...weird

Weirder shit... it happens whenever a new posting makes an appearance while scrolling.
The posting div above switches background color.....like it "forgets" the declared background color, and inherits the dark one from the containing div.
This shit only happens when an <object></object> tag is present in the thread and only in IE......
IE bug?

Well its sort of fixed.
Remove all the outer divs (that were just containers, nothing fancy) and centered the headerbar and wrap div.
That somehow stopped IE to flicker.
Too many divs inside divs in combination with <object>?
