Maybe I'm alone in this, but I've never seen Mbadi as a combat figure, and that's exactly how I've always liked him. He's a scummy politician and hacker, rather than an insane combatant. Also, you'll notice how he took out that spec ops soldier without issue. Since he was under arrest for murdering the most powerful man in the solar system, you can probably assume that he'd been taking out spec ops left and right up to that point.

Well before Mbadi became a politician, he was a veteran soldier and a war hero. He was a member of the ORDER... the man that stopped Jean Varez, the worst terrorist in the history of the Solar System. And the sole survivor of his unit in that mission. Who knows what kind of dangers he faced up to that point.

He's also a master (with decades or even over a century of experience) of kalaripayattu, one of the oldest fighting systems in existance. And thanks to his (equally deep) knowledge and experience in yoga, he seem to have an almost absolute control of his body and psyche and everything they do, and is capable of accomplishing superhuman feats. Plus, he's almost 7 feet tall and has the physique of an olympic athlete.

The problem is that he's way overshadowed by cyborgs and mutants: the likes of Gally (enhanced by the Fata Morgana, and, until a couple of captures before, the Jovian wormhole generator), Sechs, Zekka, Caerula, Toji... These guy are so powerful that they could be considered walking WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction).

In Mbadi's case, it would be like Batman vs. Superman, in a universe full of "Supermans" (or Supermen).

Yeah, I admit it. I am (or, as of phase 110, was) a fan of Mbadi.

Yeah, Mbadi could make mincemeat of people like Saya, and maybe prove a solid match against the Figures or Zapans of the world, but I suspect either of the Bunnies could decimate him without his hacking powers.
I was never really expecting him to actually fight Alita physically (unless it was in the Cyber-world, and we were disabused of that idea a while back when she pumnmeled him there).

I totally saw Don Fua taking out Colonel Payne, and I wish I had posted about it months ago so I'd have seemed Sage.

It's hard to complain aobut Don Fua being a "Deus Ex machina" character, as by this point we've been introduced to a number of such, with Quantum Uncertainty Alita, nigh-unkillable Caerula, Arthur (literally a God in the Machine) and so forth. If anything, it's refreshing to see that Alita herself still isn't the most powerful being in the Universe with the wormhole and the Fata Morgana.

On that note, I suspect that part of her deal with Zeus was to relinquish the Reactor in exchange for a speedy return/regeneration in the ZOTT, as I don't expect her to have it's power in the Mars arc.

Another excellent scanlation by the Usual Suspects, kudos!

I would say that Don Fua is a Deus ex machina in the sens that to end this epic arc, the zott and everything, in just 3 chapters, you need such a character! Remember how long it took to attain this part!

Unlikely. If I had Mbadi's power and physical characteristics, I would certainly only plan to make Saya happy - if you understand what I mean.

About Don Fua... A few phases ago, when he first makes his appearance on the ZOT, he is listed in the Space Karate Allies team roster, but the name, written in latin alphabet directly on the table's drawing, so by Kishiro's hand, is Donphyr. Have we missreaded the name so far?

In the official American version (Viz Media) of Last Order, Don Fua is named Tunpó. I put that out there, since we supposedly use the Viz names as the official English canon.

I actually do not like the "deux ex machinism" of Don Fua. Because it is just, that, hello, I am god, I am here to solve all the problems, I am better than anyone ... meh!

IN the other hand, I find Mbadi´s death quite appropiate. I do not understand the language, but I think I can see what´s going on :P

I just hope, Elf and Zwolf return, I liked thouse two, too much ><

By the way, anyone knows how to change the pass from this forum? :S

Have we discussed the women of Gunnm/LO elsewhere in a separate thread yet? There have been some innuendos I recall about Olympe for example, but I don't think a thread devoted to the topic.

Edit: Yahoo, my 200th post and nearly in the the top 10!

I think the godlike status of Don Fua is something we must get over. Even he coudn't completely understand the nature of his power, which limits are far from our mere comprehension. We must rely on theories and any useful hypothesis.

You are not alone. They still are with Alita, I guess that means they'll still have something to do in the history and it's gonna be easier if they have bodies.

I wouldn't expect too much for elf and swolf future. they never seemed to have evolved beyond being fanservice or background characters. If Kishiro had something for them I think we'd have seen something by now. I could see them leave the team after the zoot and only reappear again in some background shots, kind of like Shumira and other "old characters".

They would actually be much safer staying in Kimpi and Kimpo form, but those do not look the same in bunny suits.

I honestly would have liked to see a little more character development with these 2. They actually went backwards IMO by not making serious efforts to develop their combat abilities (the monowire scarf failed terribly) and had to drop out of the ZOTT to stop from becoming liabilities. However their motivations were also not the same as the other 3 so this was inevitable. They are much better suited to sticking with their bodyguard roles, as we have seen that even their singing is not that good.

I did not get the sense though that he messed with either them or Sechs except to bring them to Tiphares. He has mentioned twice to Alita that he did not interfere with her free will and it's not like the other three were in need of some lifesaving at the time he picked them up to cause him to see how they would battle their karma by making "improvements".

I still want to know if Martin did anything with them in that hot tub other than sit in it at the same time.

You're both absolutely correct, and no they don't bother me at all.

Let me correct this.
The way I put, it does not say anything.
I meant it is difficult to say that nothing besides sitting happened in that tub. It would make no sense at all. When would someone enter such a place together and be naked only to bathe? Usually, the bath happens after the main events.

 Certainly one of the unsolved mysteries of the series and a subject for speculation either way (nothing happened, something may have happened).

Well, you know how hot tubs can be, people can get ideas after being in them first then get out of them to act on those ideas. Also if it is a hot tub vs. a sunken bath, the water gets recirculated into the tub. Not very good for cleaning up.

The scene would not be as suggestive if Martin isn't shown in the next panel looking at them funny while telling Alita to drop Giraud off at the Adminipolice.

Anyone have a rough idea of what happened to the onion ring? I know it's flying to the moon but what caused it do this? Was there some contingency that Aruther put in? What was the point of that?

Here's how I see this playing out;
The Onion Frame gets to the Moon, Sechs ends up leaving with Zekka as his master, with Yani, Derossi, Elf and Zwolf in tow.
Probably headed to Earth, it seems to be the default dumping ground for characters secondary to the storyline.

Alita (sans the wormhole reactor) heads toward Mars with the remaining cast, including Zazie, Toji, Caerula/Vilma (the Guntrolls are on Mars), and Deckman 100.

My guess is we only get short out-takes of Sechs from this point forward, which will probably break a few hearts, but there's a real need to refocus on the main character again. IMO.
