Oh my god that is really sad...now I will have to wait at the release of volume in quebec which is soooooo long....Scanlation was there to help me waiting for new volume..but if I remember correctly I think I already saw chapter from here ending up on site like mangareaders or mangafox that could explain why they've notice the work of the guy here

As long as the scripts and raws continue getting posted, this is only a minor inconvenience to me. I'll edit them for my own use. I used to do this a long time ago with Berserk, when The Hawks' scans started going to shit, before Evil Genius picked it up.

If I didn't go back and reread GLO so often, I wouldn't do the edits.

This is unfortunate...

Thank you for all of your hard work though.

Hopefully Kodansha is better with volume releases than Viz and we won't have to wait a year or longer to see a legitimate copy.

As for scanlation alternative... is the workaround going to be raws with a script to read alongside?

It would help if YK released chapters more frequently. It used to be monthly or so then it became bimonthly IIRC?

Oh wow, another group started?
Well we are NOT translating for mangatraders, or the pixie team.
Its a public translation.

Just read it, looks good tho.
Nice enough to give us credits for the translation.
But we won't aid them in any way.

I do believe Kodansha is.
The fact is that I was unable to find that Pixie Dust group.
Let us see if they find it.

Why don't you just make a private community where you can release the manga to a group of people who are members of the club like they do in many IRC channels? They can't bother you there because it's not "Public". Where else will I read battle angel mangas? Its one of my favorite mangas and the original battle angel was the very first manga I ever read. Dont let these ignorant stupid greedy dickwads ruin a wonderful manga like this. They just want to ruin Kishiro's work.

Did Kodansha ask you to stop only the scanlations or the translations as well?

Tell the guy from kodansha to kiss your ass. If you stop doing the translations and scanlation then NOBODY gets to read battle angel last order. Cause those retarded pieces of crap will never release them in the US until 20 or 40 years from now. Hearing this pisses me off. I love battle angel. And these idiots want to stop people from translating and reading them? they all need to die.

Oh, I thought Battle Angel Alita was very well known series because its first volume was the first manga I bought and read. The first volume didn't convince me completely so I read the series through scanlations. After that I bought the complete series (used, though). However, the sequel's volumes I bought as new up until volume 11. Then, I got bored supporting the series because the Z.O.T.T seemed never ending. Now story is getting interesting again! So, I must say that Kodansha's timing/decision is wise. Last Order has already received enough publicity through scans. Thank you Rippersanime! You have done very good job with the series!

What are you talking about? Kodansha is releasing Battle Angel Alita: Last Order Omnibus 1 on March/2013 (new readers have opportunity to start following the series + volume 17 is released on February). I have already pre-ordered the omnibus and have very high-expectations from the release. Hopefully it's as high quality as Viz's omnibus volumes. At least, it includes 2 new stories. It better to have color pages and other Gunnm art by Yukito Kishiro. A poster would be a great extra too.

Look,

If any of you have a reason to be mad, be mad at Shueisha for being utter conservative pricks.

Now, on the other hand, Kodansha is working their asses off to catch up to the current release of the Japanese version. They've released their first volume (no.16) already, and volumes 17 and 18 are on the way in 2013, alongside a massive omnibus set.

Honestly, I feel that Kodansha has hit the ground running with their work. And I certainly understand their position on scanlations. At least they had the decency to ask Ripper directly instead of serving him with a hostile cease-and-desist written by a faceless lawyer.

There's a big difference here. Communication - especially in the way Kodansha has handled it - is a huge plus, and this is a positive sign for the future of Battle Angel Alita: Last Order.

-NK

P.S. Solarairhead, you come off as a hateful prick. Scale it down.

Well, checking in my bookstore, volume 15 (Viz's) costs R$29.00 (about US$13.88), while volume 16 (Kodansha's) will cost R$31.90(US$16.27).
I just hope the price increase is limited to that.

Basically it's consolidating and republishing multiple individual volumes as a larger, single volume. The Vol. 1 ominbus is 664 pages so it looks like Vols. 1-3 of LO. Makes sense as Kodansha is picking up at Volume 16.

No one has mentioned yet how the switch in publishers will affect the non-American publishers or if there was any effect at all. Viz is partly owned by Shueisha so they have to follow the parent company with the transfer to Kodansha.

Meanwhile, Shueisha is republishing Hyper Future Vision in Japan, so I conclude that Viz will keep publishing HFV in the USA.
