and again on the translation at hands, what about flued ashod remark in his WIP translation, about page 3 :

the not so hidden kanji meaning of reinforcement is the point here, "turn of event" or worse "this is our lucky day" is reducing gally's insight.


a same meaning can be expressed in multiple ways in japanese so one have to choose the less reducing one for translating into languages without that multidimensionnal side.

As for Schwarzschild surfaces, the kanji used, "面" is very clearly "surface". A surface is just as much a mathematical construct as a radius.

Very nice translation and chapter, very interesting and astonishing!!

For the black hole thing: If I well remember my astrophysical courses, the Shcwarzschild radius IS calculated using the density of the matter aroung a point with the metric of the same name.
The Surface doesn't represent anything actually because what is physically relevant is the distance of an object approaching the black-hole to the center of the mass it self.

In the case of a black-hole, the black hole is not made of vacuum but of matter so dense in a relatively small spot that even light cannot escape gravitationnal attraction. To escape the horizon, described as the closest distance where light can escape, you need to have a speed higher than the speed of light and ergo to have no mass at least. The horizon can be seen and taken as the Shcwarzschild radius because this is the line between the light from the surrouding space and the dark from the "hole".

BTW, only space is bent by the energy (or mass mass with Einstein equation) created by the fist of Don-fua through extreme gravitationnal force, time stays intact.

As I understood it, his void palms don't form black holes, they merely teleport "things": Zekka's arm, Zekka's body, massive amount of energy pulled from Jupiter. What threw off the sword of damocles was Zekka's antimatter. Antimatter+matter is called an annihilation (c108 p16 f1). It emits a sh*tload of photons, creating a huge explosion, thus the following brightness. There was no black hole involved this time.

I don't believe trying to find the most precise english translation and physics vocabulary is overthinking, but so be it. My beliefs also aren't above anyone else's. Most people won't mind all this physics stuff, I suppose. And if they do, they'll make some researches by themselves to find out more.

Initially, the Japanese name for the computer was just "Jupiter", because the planet is called "mokusei" in Japanese. Since that would have made both the planet and the computer "Jupiter" in English, I used the name from a different pantheon, Zeus. Maybe because of the change in publishers he took the opportunity to give it a better name? I'm not really sure what we should typeset, but personally, I'm in favor of sticking with Zeus.

The reason the sword didn't fire was because a gravitational disturbance in the arena pulled the satellites slightly out of formation and their focal point was thrown off. The surface consists of all points at 1 schwarzschild radius from the singularity. It's a matter of semantics really whether you want to view it as a radius or a surface, but fortunately Kishiro's text was very clear as to which he intended.

Agreed about the spacetime curvature, spacetime is the general relativistic mesh for the surrounding space. We don't actually know if it really bends time but the theory predicts it.

For the surface thing, I think you should stick to radius, because surface might have a physical property (as something which can be touched) when a radius is something mathematical more relevant because you cannot see or touch it, which is the case for the horizon.

Oh, and guys, Yukito is always very accurate when talking about physics things in the manga, so as long as you are really picky about how to spell names and everything, you should also be about this because the author is

Schwarzchild surface/radius/event horizon: if kanji say's "surface" then it should stay "surface". Or it will start going to "Jeru-Zalem" and "Ketheres-Tipheres" absurd. In my opinion radius is more related to 2D plane. On page it is clearly seen that it is visible as black hole.

On the other hand i wonder if black hole can bent or transfer through wormhole such thing as scalar waves. It can bend light, but can it "suck" in/out scalar waves?

Thanks for reminding me. I was hoping that was what Zeus called her this chapter, but it's not =/. The Japanese is "dorobo-neko" or "burglar cat". It's the same as Nami's title in One Piece, and that's translated as "cat burglar" by almost every translator I know of. Even though that switches the adjective and the noun, it seems to be the best translation that I can think of.

As far as the Schwarzschild radius, I'm going to make an executive decision and stick with "surface". If Kishiro wanted it to be interpreted as radius, he would have written "shuwohtsusheerudo hankei", which is literally "radius", and not "shuwohtsusheerudo men".
