Sorry I was mistaken there are going to be live actors , I just cheaked the interw. Petite Fleur is asking for a film like Final Fantasy, where everything is CG.

I think given that Tin Tin wasn't such a big deal, all cg might be less appealing now.

I mentioned Final fantasy because it is high technology, with all the resources of CG. Tintin is far from that.Martin wrote:I think given that Tin Tin wasn't such a big deal, all cg might be less appealing now.
Re: Michael Bay would be good for Alita, I aint trolling
Well James Cameron's still gotta make 2 more avatar movies, and who knows what else he'll do. So by the time he does get around to being able to make an BA film it'll be years down the road, and who know how much technology will have progressed by than.
Re: Michael Bay would be good for Alita, I aint trolling
Well...
I don't know about you guys, but I always consider Hollywood "adaptations", just that, adaptations that not disgrace the face of the history they are adapting on...
From my point of view, YES V for Vendetta is a good (quite good) adaptation of a comic, that it's impossible to adaptate unless is a extended trilogy, much like LOTR is. (And there are people who feel insulted because bombadil doesn't appear, go figure).
As movies and comics are not the same thing, it's plain madness to consider that an adaptation would be your exact mental image of that comic. And you know more? The more popular is, more voices will raise about this or that detail left out.
In my consideration, Michael Bay was once a decent movie director, but only when he had Bruckheinmer along with him. So his first three movies (Bad Boys, Armaggeddon and Rock), where a very enjoyable entertainment, as much as Transformers trilogy is a totally plain multibillon digital shit.
As for Cameron goes, I have a paramount respect for who the guys is, and how it does it. His movies could be chessy at times, (Pocahontas 3D anyone?), but the way he tells the story, turns pocahontas 3D into one of the most profitable movies in the entire history. I know the excuse is thin, but at least time ago, he was a man with an exceptional huge vision, that could turn the most B-Series script into a AAA movie classic. (Terminator).
But the problem is not Cameron, the problem is the history itself.
Let's say you have the chance to make a movie out of alita. ¿What it will be?. The series have.... 4000+ pages? And still running. Ido? Foyga? Tuned project? Zapan? Panzer Kunst Prequel? And the list goes on and on. In my opinion the most spectacular part of the manga is no doubt the Zott tournament. But that's just not enought for a normal movie, which needs to ends in 2 - 3 hours.
Probably, the part when Gally hunts Nova Down in the Granitic Cupola is the most reasonable part to become a movie by itself... But it's well known that Cameron own the rights from the very moment he had read the Motorball Arc... which by the way, is another one top arc.
Again, a movie is very, VERY short for everything Kishiro have offered so far. A long-run TV series is a much better choice, but again, a TV series wil never have the budget required to depic some of the things Gunm have to offer, and I doubt the plain crude violence that rules free in the Manga, will make the cut too...
Nah, let's stay as we are now.
Pd. Final Fantasy is top, Tintin could kiss my ars.e

Re: Michael Bay would be good for Alita, I aint trolling
I will give you two honorable examples: 300 (Zack Snyder) and Sin City (Robert Rodriguez). It is NOT impossible to respect the original work (coincidentally, both had the original author, Frank Miller, involved in the projects).
I do like Terminator (the first one, I mean). At least, it has originality.
If you want an example of a ridiculous story transformed in a great film, check Alien (Ridley Scott). Honestly, that is a B film, but even a B film will be great if the director is able to make a great work. The continuation Aliens (James Cameron) was a good action movie exactly because he was smart enough to avoid continuing what Ridley Scott had done and made something completely different, respecting the background. Bolder than that, only Predator II.
I have already given my opinion about V for Vendetta, so…
At least we agree about Final Fantasy and Tintin.

If you're not >14 yrs old and you think Michael Bay is a great director, you should feel bad.
That's all I have to say on the matter.
That's all I have to say on the matter.
Re: Michael Bay would be good for Alita, I aint trolling
I love to make fun of Transformers and Michael Bay in general, but he is the ONLY director who really throws around real cars and has a lot of real explosions, and then adds a bunch of cg on top of those shots. He is the only big budget director who will shoot exploitation/cheese cake/pin up shots with a full dollied, jib and catch a real(looking) sun light lens flare in a woman's crotch. If you're not >14 yrs old and you think Michael Bay is a great director, you should feel bad.

He is a great director, beyond just his ability to make money. He isn't going to see a best director nod for a while but his last 3 movies fall into the category of, "you should see these movies just to see what can be done in a movie these days" context. And besides making that money, his movies have shots in them that just can't be afforded in almost any other production.
I hate Transformers, I hate the slow motion action sequences, but Alita vs. Jashugan in that style is the only way I can imagine it.
OK...since I started this thread James Cameron has been talkative.
http://www.toplessrobot.com/2012/04/jam ... ttle_a.php
He is still on top of it, more or less, and Michael Bay has been busy making plans completely changing(fucking with) the ninja turtles.
I thought I read somewhere that JC has said something about Avatar 2,3 AND 4; but I can't find it now...so who knows.
Re: Michael Bay would be good for Alita, I aint trolling
"James Cameron will only make 'Avatar' movies from now on"
http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/05/07/j ... on-avatar/
“I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts…. I think within the Avatar landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it. And doing it in an entertaining way.”
hmmmm...something is going to change now I think.
One thing is that, I believe the standard kind of deal that JC and YK had is called an option. The basic idea, theoretically, is that JC would pay YK every year he DIDN'T make a BAA movie and that deal would be renewed every so often (1-3 years).
If JC means what he said, then YK might be out some cash AND/OR be in a position to sell the BAA movie rights to someone else; hopefully someone else who wants to see it happen in a more timely fashion.
exciting

Or Cameron keeps renewing the option, but keeps pushing back a Gunnm movie, thus the gravy train continues for YK.
