I like Cameron's filmmaking. The attention to details, the athmosphere... Aliens is one of the few sequels heralded as being on par with the original, and the way it was done, it was perfect. He was a fan of the original, and, seeing making that again would be impossible, made something different, but good. The Alien Queen beats any of the actual shots of the Alien in the first movie, whose brillance is the lack of clear views, the fear of the unknown.
He is a fan of this manga. He has the rights.
It will happen, and it will be good.
At least it isn't Uwe Boll, keep that in mind.

Re: Cameron's Upcoming Projects aka Gunnm's film
The problem with Cameron is that he don't have experience in martial battle sequences, so the combats will end being so generics

Re: Cameron's Upcoming Projects aka Gunnm's film
I'm sure that most of you keep track of Battle Angel related news, most - if not all of them - being news of subsequent delays in favor of Avatar movies - and yet Cameron says that he won't let anybody else direct Battle Angel.
A couple of days ago we've got reassurance that Cameron would *definitely* direct Battle Angel.
Now, for the news:

That's what I call "being a dick" (well, he made an overall dickish impression in that interview).
So, what happens now? Will the rights to Alita's adaptation remain frozen, until he dies?

Let me repeat: he won't let anyone else direct Battle Angel, but he doesn't care about anything which isn't Avatar or trips to the bottom of the sea. Like a dog in the manger.Last year I basically completely disbanded my production company’s development arm. So I’m not interested in developing anything. I’m in the “Avatar” business. Period. That’s it. I’m making “Avatar 2,” “Avatar 3,” maybe “Avatar 4,” and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts. And that all sounds I suppose a little bit restricted, but the point is I think within the “Avatar” landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it. And doing it in an entertaining way. And anything I can’t say in that area, I want to say through documentaries, which I’m continuing. I’ve done five documentaries in the last 10 years, and I’ll hopefully do a lot more. In fact, I’m doing one right now, which is on this, the Deep Sea Challenge project that we just completed the first expedition. So that’ll be a film that’ll get made this year and come out first quarter of next year.

I will open a champagne (a legitimate French one) and celebrate.Silvery wrote: Let me repeat: he won't let anyone else direct Battle Angel, but he doesn't care about anything which isn't Avatar or trips to the bottom of the sea.

I'm afraid I don't understand what's there to celebrate.

Simple: the way things are going this film will never be made, that is, no crime will be perpetrated against a masterpiece, as we have already seen in many cases.Silvery wrote:I'm afraid I don't understand what's there to celebrate.

Not so fast , even if Cameron does'nt make the movie , there is still a chance that the company or the autor , tired of waiting will give the job to someone else. And a bigger crime will be made.Sergio Nova wrote:I will open a champagne (a legitimate French one) and celebrate.Silvery wrote: Let me repeat: he won't let anyone else direct Battle Angel, but he doesn't care about anything which isn't Avatar or trips to the bottom of the sea.
I think we just have to wait and it will come out , the movie, soon or later.

Re: Cameron's Upcoming Projects aka Gunnm's film
Cameron bought the universal rights on any form of cinema/tv/anime version. Unless he transfers the rights to someone (what he has already said he will never do) or choose another director (what he has just said it is out of consideration), he will be dead before any version is available. Then, negotiations will take place with his heirs.kuroro86 wrote: Not so fast , even if Cameron does'nt make the movie , there is still a chance that the company or the autor , tired of waiting will give the job to someone else. I myself would prefer a TV series directed by Robert Rodriguez.

I also would like a anime or a tv series in CG , than a MOVIE but I 'm afraid we are going to get the second one in any case. I don't know what agreement Cameron has for the rights , but I already gave up for the movie. In any casa Cameron has never made , in my humble opinion, bad movies . So it could go worst .
Re: Cameron's Upcoming Projects aka Gunnm's film
I doubt that Rodriguez could pull this off.
Anyway, why are you so against it, Sergio?
A movie would prompt many people to get acquianted with the manga, which they never heard of before.
Also, it doesn't have to be bad, especially if it's more "based on" than "an adaptation of".
Let's look at recent takes on Sherlock Holmes, for example. Sure, neither the movies nor the tv series are faithful adaptations, but both are interesting variations of Holmes fiction. And a lot of people have read Doyle's novels, which they had never heard of before they watched the movies/the series.
Of course, there are always fans of the "RUINED FOREVER" genre, but myself, I prefer to be more... forgiving. If I wasn't, as a fan of old Star Wars movies, I would die from a rage-induced aneurysm a long time ago; same goes for Dune (stupid tv series and new books), the Witcher (really bad tv series) or Transformers (Bay movies).

Re: Cameron's Upcoming Projects aka Gunnm's film
Silvery,
I have seen criminal adaptations of Spider-Man and Hulk, to start with. Such criminal adaptations were so absurd that it would be too much goodwill to consider them as comedies. (I am not referring to the last ones, obviously).
Kishiro himself hated the only anime adaptation already done of Gunnm - and I agree, as it is pure trash.
I mentioned Rodriguez because he made what many people (I included) would consider impossible: to transfer Sin City to the big screen - and respecting the story as it was created. For the same reason I respect Zack Snyder. His version of 300 is great, to say the least!
Finally, as I have already mentioned more than once (and was strongly offended here because of that), one of the greatest works already written as graphic novel was inclemently destroyed by the Wachowsky brothers. Good sense dictates that they should have been executed in order to avoid other massacres.
As to Cameron, despite his big portfolio, he has never made any work in which the direction of actors in important, and some characters in Gunnm do require a director of actors and characters.
In short, the possibility of having trash is not exactly little.

who cares about acting, it will all be green-screened anyway so acting is the fifth wheel of the car.
what we do want to see on the other hand, is an aerial view of zalem and kuzutetsu, and some oil mixed with hydraulic fluids and synthetic blood

i may even add that what's far more important is the shots and editing part : panzer kunst moves are too beautiful to be put in several shoulder filmed shots, they'll have to find a way so we can see the whole action.
this is were converting a stand still comic action scene, into an animated action scene is difficult.
acting is completely irrelevant if the universe and action packed scenes are no good, and if they are good then acting goes completly unnoticed

The green screen ist for the surrounding - no green screen can substitute good actorsHumanRage wrote: acting is completely irrelevant if the universe and action packed scenes are no good, and if they are good then acting goes completly unnoticed

I mostly like the development of the character Alita over the time and in special situations. Thus, the series was very annoying for a long time. I don't want to see a perfectly animated ZOTT in the cinema. I want to see the cyborg world in great graphics with these hard but developing and different characters

Her face is a resin mask and she has barely any expression at all through the manga... nothing to act.
maybe Ido's sadness on "christmas caroll" or nova's madness could use some acting but it's very minor compared to the main dish of the story...
