New Tunguska! MoooV, hepar, are you alive guys?!

Post by kamugin »

This event was truly impressive http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21468116
We were lucky the cold war ended over twenty years ago, otherwise...
Some "in loco" pictures maybe, comrades?

Seriously now, I hope you and your dear ones are well, Russian friends.

Of course we are alive: we both are living in St.Petersburg, while the meteor has fallen near Chelyabinsk (the city's population is over a million people) - the distance between these cities is nearly the same as between Los Angeles and New York.

The mass of the meteor is estimated to be about 2-5kg and it is totally unrelated to the passing of 2012da14 nearby Earth - it came from the OPPOSITE direction and was impossible to trace due to it's small size.

There are several heavily injured people, who have got hit by the collapsing factory buiding, which was destroyed by a small meteor chunk.

As far as I know, there are no deaths. Several hundred people were injured by the glass chunks - nearly all windows in the city have been blown into pieces by the shockwave, because the meteor has exploded in the atmosphere right above the city before falling about 200km away.

Of course, the social networks are overflowing from the photos and videos. There are many "Men in black style" jokes, like "It was just a swamp gas, now look here please" and many demotivators/ragecomics.

Someone has even compiled a single video from many youtube clips - excuse the stupid lowlifes (you can just close the video at 1:25), who shout and swear in the last part of it, but the shockwave sound is awesome.

PS.
It's nothing like Tunguska - the yesterday event was a small meteor, just windows blown. Apophis would be like Tunguska, if it will collide with Earth in 2036 - but not this one.

Everything is fine, calm down.

I'm glad to know you both are fine, actually I wasn't expecting anything else.

You may downplay the event, however something like that is unique in the recent history, the extension of the damage is astonishing, as we can see in your pictures (thank you for sharing). The many footage of the event makes it the best registered meteorite fall ever. There was a similar incident in Indonesia three years ago http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news165.html, but yesterday incident outshine that one --300kilotons against 50kilotons-- and is the biggest one since Tunguska.

Knowing that Chelyabinsk city have nuclear weapons factories nearby, we could make a "Doctor Strangelove" like movie if this happened when the cold war was still on.

I laughed seriously. Most of that are mere jokes, but the joke about life-action GTA is a bit close to the reality.

And some more:

I've seen those dash video's, meteor was awesome :)

And about the Russian stereotype about driving...
Youtube search "russia crash compilation" ... nuff said.
Some of these accidents are just mind boggling.

That REALLY IS a live action GTA.

Mooov you own a car?
Does it have a dashcam and Bat/hatchet/icbm missile accessory?

I don't own a car because I don't have a driver's license (it's too nervous to drive for me - I get furious and start hating everyone pretty easily, so I don't even want to learn driving).

Today I've accidentally came across this video compilation and decided to share it with you guys.
The video is called 'The second birthday', because people are incredibly lucky there and avoid death miraclously - especially several people at the end of a video, that's truly amazing.

Yeah insanely lucky some of them.
Keep walking mooov, its dangerous to drive. (then again, walking isn't safe either)
College / brother went to Kiev and taxidriver there got downtown with insane speeds.
120km/h+
On a wide road, barely any marking on them.
If there is place to drive, you drive there.

He went to see the Chernobyl reactor on a tour.

Is this police recording? What saddens me is that statistically there must be roughly the same amount of videos where the people actually die... Hopefully this doesn't reach youtube...
