Thanks for the links, and glory to the scanlators!
Spoiler:
Oh, so this time it's a vaguely Gundam-flavoured kind of disaster. I'm sure that Kishiro isn't done with tormenting poor people of Mamiana yet, but it's hard to beat something like this.
By the way, gravity on Kishiro's Mars seems to be similar to that of Earth...

Have you forgotten the terraforming wars?
The process would adapt any planet to terrene (not only human) beings.

In case you had not noticed Martian skies as shown several times during Last Order, you noticed it now.

Actually, I've forgotten quite a bit since that arc in LO... Right, the magic of terraforming. I doubt it's ever going to become reality, but it's one of the most interesting concepts when it comes to space colonization.

I wonder how they achieved a permanent increase of gravity on a whole freakin' planet.

Well, we can't argue too much about terraforming.

Terraforming, if ever possible, would worlk only in a planet which is terra-like. Roughly same mass, magnetic field, dense enough atmosphere, solid ground, abitable belt of its system.... Then u alter atmosphere to be the perfect mix, with an oozone lyer and seed life.

Mars has basically none of that. In a BAALO chapter it was stated that jupiters moons had to be consumed to fullfill a terraform, so "mass enancemente" could be part of it. But to think about the conseguences of mars reaching the overall mass of earth upon the planetary orbits in solar system.. it could be a massive scale hazard.

Making inhabitable doesn't mean turning a planet into a carbon copy of Earth. And, after all, Mars was more earthlike in the past anyway.

Venus and Mars ARE terran planets. They have less of a magnetic field, which means they ended up losing plenty of water due to solar radiation breaking the molecules apart. Venus also had some vulcanism issues that ended up with it as a hothouse planet, but, all in all, all three of them are similar in composition, and are within the habitable belt of the solar system.

And, if you don't mind, could you work a bit in your spelling? That post was kinda uncomfortable to read.

I remember to have seen, about 20-25 years ago, a presentation by Carl Sagan saying that Mars would be perfectly terraformable. According to Sagan, it would take around 100 hundred terrestrial years to transform the planet in a way it would be perfect for earthly life forms, having even oceans, with the advantage of having no pollution at all. And we would have the knowledge enough to avoid destroying the environment.

Well, I believe Sagan had a certain knowledge to affirm that.

Is it Yukito himself providing some of the rather questionable wording?

P10-11 - Säule - While not wrong per se I'd change this into Pfeiler which is like the more elaborate version as in the foundation of something big - Judging the size of those pillars a and the canopy they hold a more fitting description.

P13 - Border Wand - Those two should be used in one language or the other, not both.
So it's either ENG: Border Wall or GER: Grenzwand / GER: Grenzmauer

P16 - Himmelbruch - While the word itself isn't an issue the literal translation to either canopy explosion or sky explosion is not quite right.
A literal translation would by Sky Break or an in the context more fitting, but not as accurate, Sky Shatter as there is no explosion involved in the word Himmelbruch - Just in the Picture =)

We were talking about martian gravity wich is little stronger then moon's, while, on the comic, looks similart to earth's. How was it possible? Through terraforming it would have required a huge mass enanchement, since martian mass, and so, gravity, is about 35% of Earth's.

Edit: Doublechecking, martian mass is 10% of Earth's (it lacks heavy elements), and surface gravity is 35%, i guess due to considerably lesser diameter.

Since the problem is way unfixable in any sensate hypotesis, the best politic is "fuck it, they somehow did, who cares?".

That's why earlier I said "the magic of terraforming". It's a very interesting idea that should be explored more often, but when you turn off your suspension of disbelief... See, even if we were able to create a breathable atmosphere on Mars, it would be continuously stripped off by the solar winds, since the planet doesn't have an electromagnetic field like Earth has. And I'd say that increasing gravity wouldn't be possible. (Not that either of these things is absolutely needed to establish a colony.)

All of this pesky realism doesn't make me see Mars Chronicle in worse light, of course.

BAAMC's Mars has no terraformed atmosphere, since every community is built under a pressure dome, even 400 years later (see BAALO).

To increase gravity u need to increase mass, there is no other option. That would jopardize solar system orbits balance.

But, once again, who cares? It's a great Sci Fi story.

I completely accept the mesh across the sky as the Mars colonies' stand in magnetic field. I haven't detected that it is a bubble-per-city scheme, but is a single bubble around the whole planet. I can see this construction possiblity through the magic of nanomachine construction.

Not exactly a single bubble. There is (at leat) a spaceport, and ships from Earth, Venus and Jupiter are always landing and departing.
