Dec 2015 Avatar update

Post by Martin »

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/12/22/ ... -date-plan

two years till the first one, then one a year...No reasonable hope for a BAA movie till winter 2021, if we are lucky.

About all we can hope is that two is extra soft, so they cram 3three and four into three...that gets us an extra year earlier.

Not to be mr negative, but no way does he start BAA until Avatar is done...even though they are filmed all at once, he will still be full time in post for the year of each film.

Bummer.

Same here.
What do we desire of life in this world?
What do we desire?
What do we have to show for ourselves?
We accomplish nothing if we fear failure.
If only we could be
stronger...

I want to see them. nothing changes what I have loved...for decades(?!?) at this point.

More better. Even if they suck completely, there will be something cool and new to come out of it.

Let's be honest. Most of the times, literature (comics included) transported to movies result in art destruction.

1. Even Zack Snyder, whom seemed to have made a respectful adaptation of 300, made an unacceptable deformation when he put Rodrigo Santoro to play Xerxes. Xerxes in Frank Miller's graphic novel is a Negro, and Santoro is 100% Caucasian. And when I saw WATCHMEN…
2. Cameron is interesting to direct action movies, but he is completely incompetent to direct actors, and unless you consider AVATAR as an example in art direction, he is not the man to make a film with great characters.

Robert Rodriguez made the impossible with SIN CITY, but Cameron made clear that he intends to direct GUNNM himself, supposing it will ever be filmed one day. That said…

A good surprise might always come. Remember that James Cameron saved the world... in South Park ^^

I still hope that he will manage it well, I have no proof or hints that tell me so, but since he keeps postponing this Gunnm movie, it could be possible that it is important to him, and so he will try to make a lore-and-fans-friendly movie, isn't it?

Yup, Hope is the best drug ever ;)

the movie is a movie, the comic is a comic.

Not 300, but Watchmen; I love both. That was the best Watchmen movie that we could have ever seen. I still like both, and frankly, I prefer the film story changes.

I want more Alita, no matter what.

LOL, I had to register here just to say this: 8 replies in and no one here seems to be aware that James Cameron is no longer directing Battle Angel.
It was announced in October 2015 that Cameron has passed on directing duties to Robert Rodriguez (director of Sin City):

It even made the front page news on IMDb in October. HOW ARE YOU PEOPLE NOT AWARE OF THIS?

True, but I will believe that Rodriguez, and not Cameron himself, will be the director - and I hope Cameron will not interfere. The way Rodriguez respects the original stories, he is the best director possible.

I posted the news back when it was announced, if ppl in the forum choose to ignore it... well, I can't blame them :P

I think we should be discussing the casting right now, I want Danny Trejo to play as Daisuke Ido. That would be a nice twist, instead of a wimpy blonde guy, you put a badass mexican to play as Alita's father/mentor/whatever. Hell, you can even replace his rocket hammer for a rocket machete instead. I can imagine him as he cuts the head of Makaku's sidekick while he screams: "VIVA EL SCRAPYARD CABRONES!!!".

Holy cow, that is good news. I hope RR gets the budget I want to see because his movies have had strong, cheap vfx aesthetics.

This is awesome news, and I hope Cameron produces.

Getting to work from Jim’s terrific and visionary script while learning the cutting edge techniques he’s pioneered is a master class in filmmaking.
Hmm...this is good news I expect. Because he'll be using the Avatar mocap system...RR should be able to get a shot-to-panel look at a whole new level.

I hope it just opens up at the beginning of Motorball and we get Yugo and Shakkaku as flashbacks...I hate book 1 and book 2 is too slow for this project.

...If it does good, I could see RR going franchise up through...who knows, but at least Bar Jack?
