Yep. Excellent stuff! Now, let's hope Cameron, Rodriguez and Salazar will deliver us the adaptation that we deserve!

Cool!
I wonder if we will have chapter 16.1 by then! (kidding)

Re: Live action movie release date set for July 20, 2018
The better question would be will we have a full fledged anime adaptation TV series by then?

Never seen Rosa Salazar before, I don't like her at all, but lets hope they get it right. Just don't screw it up, please.

I'm curious, what you don't like about her? I have seen some of you folks hypothesizing who's going to play Gally just by the look of the actress, maybe Rosa Salazar is the best choice by, you know, her acting capabilities. Who knows.Pablolein wrote:Never seen Rosa Salazar before, I don't like her at all, but lets hope they get it right. Just don't screw it up, please.
That said, let's hope Robert Rodriguez doesn't screw this one up... his movies are a hit or miss, I'm afraid.

Yeah, I wrote that post in a hurry, in a recess between classes, so it obviously sounds awful, but I didn't mean she doesn't have any acting capabilities, I just don't know her, never seen her in my entire life until I saw her as one of the casting choices. She may be the best casting choice as she can be terrible, but it still depends a lot on the script and the skills of RR, so I'm a little afraid too.Abaddon wrote:I'm curious, what you don't like about her? I guess all I was trying to say was "Hey, I don't know her but she doesn't look like Alita to me. Anyway I still hope they will deliver us a great movie, although I don't know what to think right now"

I agree, she doesn't have the 'feel' of the character at all. However, if she is a good actress and can capture the emotional range of Alita, it wouldn't matter. As long as they do her up with all the CG and everything to look as much like the character as possible.
I'm also of the opinion that the success or failure of this movie will be up to RR's cinematic talents.I don't think he has the spiritual depth of Cameron and that's why a lot of his movies come off as being too try-hard-badassy. Having said that, who knows, with Cameron producing, Rob may just get the push he needs to finally make something epic. (I won't hold my breath, but it's possible).
By the way, I've heard a lot of BAA fans saying how they'd prefer a relative unknown to be cast as Alita. Seems like they got their wish. I'd never heard of Rosa Salazar before the casting choices were announced last month.

Is this a joke? I would like you to tell me when Cameron has been able to direct actors with strong characters. As far as I have seen, his films have great FX, but he has NEVER been the man to direct actors. Rodrigues, on the other hand, has ALWAYS worked with strong personalities, from the standard to the bizarre. If you really believe that Avatar, Titanic, The terminator and so on are examples of direction of actors, congratulations. I, on the other hand, have seen that in Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, just to mention the obvious.GrubEater wrote: I'm also of the opinion that the success or failure of this movie will be up to RR's cinematic talents.I don't think he has the spiritual depth of Cameron and that's why a lot of his movies come off as being too try-hard-badassy. I cannot imagine Cameron working characters like Gally/Alita and Desty Nova, to start with. Later on, with Caerula and Erica…
For God's sake. I am afraid to think about it.

I agree. JC's films tend to be visually appealing, but lack compelling characters. I think that RR might actually be a better fit for directing the film.
I think that Rosa Salazar might be quite good as Alita. I've only seen her in Maze Runner: the Scorch Trials, and I thought she gave a good performance in it. The film also had some visuals rather similar to the badlands of volume 6 of GUNNM.

I'm not just talking about the characters; I'm talking about the whole entire feel of a film. James Cameron has a good grasp of important themes e.g. justice, loyalty, courage, friendship and, of course, love. He knows how to set up a scene, to get you hooked, to make you care about the characters. I guess this just comes down to different tastes. I'm not saying RR's movies aren't good; I'd just much rather watch a Cameron film than his. And I think he would have done a much better job directing Battle Angel than Rodriguez.Sergio Nova wrote:Is this a joke? Hey, Rosa Salazar might not be such a bad choice, as far as appearances go:
I mean, no actress is ever going to feel like the right choice to me, but this isn't bad.

That certainly looks a lot better than what I've seen of her before (mostly short hair photos), thanks!Silvery wrote:Hey, Rosa Salazar might not be such a bad choice, as far as appearances go:I mean, no actress is ever going to feel like the right choice to me, but this isn't bad.Spoiler:
