Thanks for the chapter, also it's been a while since we had 25 pages in total for one chapter. Plus after a whole year of giving readers two half chapter and then have a 4 week break of giving another half chapter. He is going back to waiting 2 weeks after giving 2 half chapters. If anyone notice that pattern then I'm not alone.

To be fair to me the next chapter represents the make it or break it of this series. I'm curious to see what is inside, because I believe it is going to be the center of the battle between Alita and Erika.

But if it turns boring I quite sure I'll quit.

Thank you. I think it is hilarious that we are getting this much back story for Erica. I always think parts are weak as they come out, then love them insanely so much when they are collected. Good old Gunnm.

I see a lot of people complaining (again!) about the length of this backstory.
Well, if some of you have read the ars magna artbook (the recent one) he actually said that Mars chronicles is the part he wanted to include in last order but thought it might be too long. So he made it in an extra story to be specifically based on Yoko and Erica childhood.

I don't think we should expect to see adults Yoko and Erica in a long story before the end of Mars chronicles. It might even be in a new series of book.

The stick moves and no one know what it means, then, suddenly, Erika finds out that it writes on sand. Mystery solved! Probably he wants to show that Erica is not an ordinary girl. Well, she did not seem ordinary to me since I read Last Order 01.

I think the reason some have problems with this arc or this flashback itself is the fact, it is hard to make children likeable characters given the fact this series is meant for adults the character that are at their childhood it is difficult for the readers to feel attach/relate to the characters at the childhood.

Also the series art change, it had that frank miller feel back at the old days, but now it feels less grim and more anime style.

Another reason why some don't like this flashback is most likely the lack of action as well.

Also MrFaber makes a point I mean in chapter 19 (part 1) seeing Yoko act a like a bug and hanging with her guardian. I mean it was just filler pages and meaningless. I would have just showed the man attack Yoko straight away. He wasted the first 6 pages for filler content.

My only problem with the series is release dates, I wanted a little faster and now it is getting harder for me to read since he is going to split the chapters into three parts now.

Not exactly. He keeps the same standard: thirty-one pages a month. The problem is that Kôdansha put him in a fortnightly magazine, and so they split each chapter in two, and once Kishiro would not publish anything for this number because he was supposed to create volume 4 cover, the editor made this criminal division.
In my not so humble opinion, I would prefer if they published entire chapters, even if that meant every other fortnight. Unfortunately…

Hmmm I have a theory about the story. But it sounds completely crazy. IDK if i want to lay it out here though cuz explaining it will be really long. I first thought about it like over a year ago, but as time passes by it seems the events are kind of all falling into place and thus making this theory more and more likely to be true.... But if the users here are interested, I could lay it out for you and let you all decide whether it makes coherent sense or not.

Edit: that being said, I think all of us would prefer for the story to go a little faster than its current pace.

Ok so here it goes. I will try to condense it as much as possible, and I hope this makes sense to the readers.
My theory is based on some pieces of evidence we have gotten from last order and mars chronicle so far
Firstly, the sudden introduction of don fua (or tunpo) and him leaving relatively quickly and in particular the words he says during his final few moments in reality. Secondly, Muster saying that yoko and erica meeting was an event of fate (as in it had some great significance to the event) and finally, the treasure itself and how erica is able to quickly decipher clues about the treasure.
Most people as of now may think the treasure itself is something related to Methuselyzation, but I think it is something very different. Something on a much grander scale than what most people might expect it to be... something beyond the scope of the battle angel world as we know it. Now recall what muster said about yoko meeting erica- that it being an event of fate. Well that could maybe hint that the births of yoko and erica were not normal, maybe their births were controlled events done in order to serve some great purpose. We remember how awful erica's "parents" were, but what if they arent even her actual parents, and what if yoko's "mother" isnt even her mother, rather these people were either co-incidentally or deliberately given these 2 girls to raise until a certain age by the same people responsible for the controlled birth of yoko and erica?
Now that we have established that it is possible for yoko and erica to have been created for a certain purpose, we can fit in the anomaly known as don fua into the bigger picture. He used to be a normal being but then transcended his former existance to become a very powerful being, who in his last appearance seemed to exit space and time itself. maybe he belongs to a class of some grand abstract entities, him saying stuff like controlling reality with imagination could hint to his abstract nature as a transcendental entity- which means the fua we say may have just been a weak representation of himself- weakened so that he could exist safely in reality without harming reality itself. Maybe the yoko and erica we see are just manifestation of similar entities from beyond reality itself. And maybe their "birth" was a process by which their essence can be projected into the world/reality in a tangible and safe way. And finally we can fit in the treasure to all of this. Maybe the treasure is some sort of an artifact or some sort of an object which will trigger the next stage of the plan which started with the birth of erica and yoko- to have them transcend into their true selves in a controlled manner to achieve the purpose of this whole program! Erica being able to decipher things related to the treasure may hint to the possibility that erica is a boddisattva- like entity in the future (due to the treasure as her source of change) who herself (in the future) is the origin of the treasure in the past, hence erica from the past is intuitively able to know some things about the treasure. (once again, this is a loop like paradoxical existance, but the paradox can be dealt with if we use some clever tricks such as the boddhisattvas being acausal, hence not being affected by causality but still possessing the ability to change causality, history and time itself as the see fit).
Now this is basically the skeletal structure of my theory. There are many extra specifics that i think may be possible, and if people want to know about them, then i will post them as well.

Ok so it basically revolves around the current battel angel world only being a tiny snipped of the whole cosmology of battle angel alita

ultimately, due to the presence of buddist, elements, i thought that these hypothetical transcendental abstract entities may actually be boddisattvas. But you see boddhisattva "is a term for anyone who, motivated by great compassion, has generated bodhicitta, which is a spontaneous wish to attain buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings." (in official words). But the benefit of sentient beings may be pervcieved differently by different beings, for example, erica, due to her view of the world, upon becoming a bodhisattva, may decide that it is in the best interest of sentient beings to stop existing all together, since it is their existance which bring them pain, so this would cause her to try an increase within her definition and power to the point she encompasses all of totality and brings it to a complete null. On the other hand, yoko may be more of the stereotypical moral bodhisattva who believes that this would be a wrong thing to do. - this story itself has the potential to be as long as last order with the quality of the part 1 manga. It can eventually drag in other prominent characters such as caerula and zekka and sechs and bring them up to a point of reality where their own ethics, morals and personalities would determine how they will organize in this grand conflict.

Considering how the series is constantly trying to one-up itself in many ways, it wouldn't be a surprise if it does go in that direction. I think the ultimate sci-fi/grand world character growth would be towards "so you see they actually started all of this and it comes to a full circle at the end" but it would be quite a challenge to pull that off without having it feel forced or cheesy. Just gonna have to hope that whatever happens won't disappoint
