I know you criticise the series but I'm impressed you are not dropping Mars Chronicle as you tend to drop series easily like hxh, and vinland saga(despite many people calling it the new berserk).

It's due to the emotional attachment I mentioned earlier. When I discovered BAA, I had just moved to Brasilia, our capital. I was alone and depressed in a strange city, a small city built almost only with gray blocks of concrete and with a very dry climate. I was about to die when I discovered this manga in a bookstore (in that occasion I also found Gunsmith Cats that I enjoyed a lot too) and it was a glass of water in the middle of the desert. Then started a love history that is 18 yo now... and right now our marriage is facing its biggest crisis!

I don't mind spotlights getting stolen because I'm used to game of thrones having over 8 different characters stories getting told at once. Muster he's better than captain hook but I still know what you mean I see it more as Indiana Jones at the moment with finding lost treasure using clues and you know the rest except Muster is a villain.

I admit I still like this site a lot that's way even though I'm dropping Mars Chronicles I'm still reading comments and replying as well.

I dropped Game of Thrones too and I never liked Indiana Jones

Honestly i'm loving this new arc. I've been negative about those again endless flashbacks, but i'm starting to guest that those are "The Story". Let's not forget that this new incarnation's of Gunnms's title is Mars Chronicle, meaning "what happened on Mars", not, "Gally does stuff (on mars)". We might event not see much of the present at all until the end of the pubblication. And you know what? I like that. This story in the past of Mars it's making itself more and more intresting and i'm starting to love the Muster character. Sure it's more interesting then to see an even more overpowered Gally Replica rumbling against new more overpowered random martial artists. We are not reading Dragon Balls More Fights.

I think that probably, at this time of the story, Gally (who lives on earth with Figure 4, and was never even in Last Order until the final pages) just remembers everything we are reading right now (as Gally Replica seem to remember, now) and it's more or less "past" to her. I guess that karmatronic reconstruction by Nova also repaired the damage Gally's brain sufferd after being dump in the athmosfere from Ieru.

At the moment i'm more happy with this new story in the Gunnm's world than with some new random villain to punch in the face.

Another thing i'm very curious about: On Muster's father and on other subjects the tumor grew insanely fast and ultimately killed them in no time. Ok. While Muster seams to be more resistant to the pathology. Ok. But looking back on the first panels when we discover of the tumors (years after in the timeline) Muster's tumors are much better developed faces that that grottesque shapeles one he has in the "far past" ant which killed already the other subjects. I wonder if the condition developed to a "stable" if not "well" form or if he actually found a partial cure that stops and stabilize the growth of tumor.

We do see him taking medicine in the Erica-is-a-child time point. Although, if I remember right, it was losing its effectiveness.

We have not seen the fate of Nollin, and I have been wondering if the two are connected. As you note, everyone else succumbed rapidly to the virus. But I think if Nollin was dead, we would have been told. Surely Kagura would have told Muster on his deathbed to torment him. Perhaps she is specially resistant to it, and is being "milked" for this to create a serum to retard the growth of tumors on Kagura (who has even less than Munster).

If Muster is (finally) over his love of Kagura, he's going to remember his sister (and berate himself for having forgotten her). He may resolve to break back into the fortress to rescue here, find her there with her life being pumped out of her, and, with agonizing self-recrimination, kill her, taking the serum.

But we'll see...

The Story of Muster, the Vampire Quest and the Tournament of Sechs, really should be sidestories like Ashen Victor. But then you have editors, crazy genius mangaka, ..... all that stuff.

Well it definitely beats reading Erica with Damjan. I couldn't stand that Damjan plot twist it was done for the sake of shock value and nothing else he was a an annoying hypocrite. Which I was hoping Kishiro could do more than that just that, probably my personal worst moment in Mars Chronicle. Also being more impartial at least Mars Chronicle series is improving from chapter 1 to chapter 23 present.

Also you are right Mars Chronicles is becoming less mainstream, due to kodansha giving Kishiro more creative control. With Kishiro former editors from jump I think they encouraged him to make a tournament arc (which although a cliche formula, he made the best tournament arc I seen compare to many writer as made it stood out compare to others)

basically it was fighting poison with poison. He did say its ineffective because he will still slowly die for using such a dangerous method. Also if Kishiro does go for that story route I'll be very interested.

Not the slightest doubt about that. It's still Kishiro and every character in the tournament, even the fillers, where amazing. Not just random guys with a big penis. Even Anomaly wasn't just a random guy with a (very) big penis. He was somehow an interesting and unexpected character.

I think, in the end, the only character i completely didn't like was Donphir (or Don Fua) in the end. He was just "hi, i'm a god like guy you barely heard of at all before, so strong to make everything happened before kinda pointless and i'm going to single-handly close the whole arc in like 5 pages".

A bit too much.

I kinda like the Muster arc. I like it a lot better than the final arc of L.O. because it gives some hints about the past of Alita and where she is coming from and gives some clues about Alita's quest for the one behind the Necrosoldiers and saving Erica. I think that dr. Neubaumer is the one that is also the mastermind (though not the wirepuller Dasein) one behind the Necrosoldiers. If he didn't die, then he has been around for 200 odd years and did some crazy (Nova-like) human experiments, like giving a body to a tumor (It seems to be a reaccuring theme in the series (Alita getting at the beginning of the story a mechanical body from a doctor and starting life). But the thing I was wondering about is who is that Zoe. She had her body ruined (before the Damjan incident) and doesn't she look quite a bit like Nollin? There is another thing I that puzzles me. If Alita is the desendant (and heir) of the Dornburg family and is heir to the throne of Mars, which Alita is the true heir? Is it the one with the brain or the one on Mars?

Agreed, also Sechs as well he became a unique three dimensional character from being obsessed in beating Alita, to justifying his existance as well, as he wants to be more than just replica, but be his own person and he learns this through fighting.

One of the highlights for this series, is we see these on how flawed people can become they are from committing crimes, existential crisis and other flaws, but at the same time we see some balance with their positive attribute like how they regret their actions. It reveals how they the world and what each person think how to live and how to obtain happiness. I like how it shows many differing opinions for the characters giving them individuality

The author is one of the best (or the best ) when showing how there personality are shaped and change for worse/better through people or the environment such as the scrapyard poor living condition or Alita changing people's life through interaction with him or her. This is one of the series that I personally over analysed as I always want to refine my opinion for the series

Also I think many would disagree on me for this but, cliches aren't necessarily bad but it is how you use it. Some can use a concept that is a cliche and change it in a certain style that can still come out fresh. In other words I don't hate cliches, but only if its being used poorly.

I loved the character too. The ultimate nichilist. So persuaded of the tragically ironic inconsistence of existence to set his own body to explode in a "congratulations" message in case of defeat.
