The random amalgam of the OVA and the manga makes me a bit afraid that this will be a second GitS, plus this... thing's... face... I have a very bad feeling about this. I mean, GitS was crappy, but at least Johansson looked like a normal humanoid with messed up hair.

BTW too bad that moooV dissapeared under Putin's regime, I would have liked to see him freaking out about this.

Thanks but I was tiring myself (and a few others) too much, so I decided to give a break and expend my energy (that is actually very low) in something more useful.

To be true, I haven't disliked the trailer completely. I like the actor they choose to play Zapan (Ed Skrein https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Skrein), he had a good performance in the Deadpool movie playing a villain. In addition, I think they did a good job portraying Alita's body (minus her face, obviously). However, the choice of replacing Gonzo for a black woman obviously to fill representation quotes was pretty bad. Zafal Takié already fills that role (aren't they going to show the motorball also?). Moreover why Ido doesn't have the Tipharean mark (since the character portrayed by Jennifer Connelly have it)? After seeing the trailer, I think Cameron's biggest reference for the movie is the OVAs, not the manga, thus he screwed up good.

As for Mooov (and Hepar), I think they left Russia or were thrown in some gulag (Mooov specially)

Why Sergio haven't commented yet? Did he passed out after watching the trailer??

This sparked me to come out of lurk-mode... I really don't know what to think of it. I will likely watch it, but I think they screwed up Alita quite a bit, Imo. Gonzo is also an odd choice.

First i thought omg those eyes, but after i watched it, i thought, yes they fit.
Her eyes are big in the Manga. If she had normal human eyes she would look less Alita.
As i watched pics of the actress i thought she doesn't look like Alita, but now withe eyes i say, yes thats she.
As mooV modeld his 3d Version i was stunned about the body but her face let me with the impression, who is this girl which does this great Alita cosplay.


My biggest concern is her body, and the body of the others.
First it seems Makaku hast his cutter from the start.
Second it seams that Alita is jumping in the hole to finish Makaku and save Koyomi has still her "idos puppet" body, where she should have the Berserker.
But at the heart scene it seams she has the Berserker, her body looks more dark.

So now you can hate me for liking the eyes.

She is a cyborg with a normal human face of normal features, not with alien eyes. In the manga her eyes are big due to the drawing style, all the characters in the manga have big eyes, but if you make a film of realistic style you must understand that the eyes in the comic are big because of that, due to the drawing style, but it represent NORMAL eyes. Gally (Alita) have normal eyes, in fact she should have Asian eyes, her real name is Yoko.

In the comic book it is never said that he has eyes bigger than those of a normal human, in comics he is never said to have the eyes of an alien, he has big eyes due to the style of drawing. There are other female characters in the manga who have eyes as big as Gally. For example, Shumira, a normal human girl:



Gally has her eyes slightly stretched out to the sides, which could give us to understand that she has slanted eyes, like the Asians, and as her real name tells us: Yoko.



Gally's design in the comic is an Asian girl represented with a big-eyed manga style. It's like the Disney drawings, where we have Jasmine, an Arab girl represented with immense eyes. After looking at it for a while, I decided that I can't stand that face, it hits the uncanny valley pretty badly https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley I can't bear looking at it for too long, it's freak and looks like a badly made photoshopped image I hope that trailer is just to probe the audience and they fix her face due to bad reception.

I'm quiet fond of Cristoph Waltz, so although I think he doesn't resemble Ido he can pull it off. Vector looks great too.

How do I feel about the eyes? I 1000% LOVE THEM! At first they were strange, then I grew accustomed and now I am in love. The ballsy decision, at risk of disaster, to have her eyes like that serves many purposes. 1st, it actually makes her Alita. But it also does something more important, since no one else in the live action has them, which honors Kishiro’s narrative in a profound way. I t distinguishes Alita from everyone else in the Alita universe. She is special. The eyes were a brave and brilliant decision.

I think I have seen the trailer almost 10 times by now. And I start to like the trailer more and more.

Really like the bug eyes. Gives her a surreal innocent doll like appearance. Some of the CGI could be better I think. But it's still got time to polish since it's date is in july.
