A sad day on the forum today.

Post by ^Ripper »

A sad day on the forum today.

It has come to my attention that our long time forum member Sergio Nova has passed away.

He was absent for awhile now so I made some inquiries.
My biggest fear became reality when I heard the news of his passing.

Sergio came to the forum on 2007.
In that time he aided with the Gunnm and Gunnm Last Order manga as quality checker and editor.
His last work being the complete re-translation of the series in Portuguese.
He also made a great Glossary and Wiki page where all the aspects of the Gunnm universe could be found.

You will be missed by many.

May you rest in peace Sergio Nova.

I was wondering where sergio was , I was really worried about him since his user profile was completely deleted, that's I began to show big concern. He was a valuable member to the rippersanime team, as help proofread with crazyankan and ripper. Although I don't know him as much as others he definitely be missed :(

Those were very sad news...
I was away from the forum for a few months and only returned recently to comment the movie trailer and soon I noticed something was odd because Sergio was one of the very first to comment anything in the forum, so for him to not post a single comment in such a hot topic something had to be wrong, thus I even sent him a private message inquiring about his issues... I received no answer and never will  In spite of me antagonizing him so many times I came to like him and genuinely nourished a feeling of friendship towards him, partially because he was also my fellow countryman. Sergio was wise, level headed and, unlike me, a hard worker. I will truly miss him  It is also very sad that he will leave incomplete his Brazilian version of Gunnm and with his passing the scanlator team lost an important member. Sergio was short under 60, perhaps a heart attack took him from us, if it wasn't due to some kind of stupid accident... I will miss you, my friend  May the Valkyries carry your soul to Valhalla!

Oh, bummer! That explains why he never got back to me about scanning the Japanese novel. Crap. I would have liked to have done a fan translated version for that in time for the movie.

If anyone else has a copy of the novel and a scanner, please let me know. I'd still like to do that project and I think it would be fitting to dedicate the effort to Sergio.

Sergio Nova provided so much to this amazing (yet obscure) community over the years. When I saw his name on a post, I knew I was about to read a well thought out piece from a huge Gunnm fan.

Rest In Peace, and love and prayers to all Sergio’s loved ones as well.

That guy was a freaking legend here. He was somehow what some people would call a "grammar nazi" in the good way of the term. How many times did he correct your english when you typed something wrong? He actually made the wiki of the whole gunnm universe. Respects.
Cheers man.

Hey ^Ripper, maybe you could change the status of a person for the highest number of post from kunstler (or whatever it might be) to Sergio. As you said, he basically posted 10% of the forum comments.

Oh no! So sorry to read this :/ All of you have already pointed out how an important member of the community Sergio was, and I'm deeply grateful for his hard work. May his family and loved ones find solace, he'll be truly missed. RIP Sergio, thank you.

I am very sorry to learn that our friend has passed away, may he be at peace. i really enjoyed his wit and theories as well as his dedication. Reading his posts felt like getting to know him a little. Though i have returned to lurking mode I was always looking forward to reading his insights. i have always pictured him as a dark skinned Brazilian Desty Nova laughing into the night while typing because of his avatar, this is how i'll remember him. Good bye friend we'll miss you.

Thank you Ripper, for letting us know.

Sad to hear this. Sergio was a highly respected and deeply committed member of this forum. He put in so much work as a fan with a lot of material in English, even though it wasn't his 1st language. He will be missed.

It's terrible when people you liked pass away. He was one of a very few people, who have broadened my outlook on the life - you can rarely come across so memorable and outstanding people on the internet. This place will never be the same again.

I don't beleive in heaven, hell, afterlife, or any other religious concepts, but let's hope you've finally got to a gunnm universe for real now, my dear friend.

I'm really sad to hear this.

I rarely post here, but I'm a regular lurker, and I've become really attached to this small community. I'd say that Sergio was a very valuable member; a cornerstone, even. I rarely engaged in discussions with him, but I always enjoyed reading his posts, even if I happened to disagree with him. He was a wise person, and his English was delightful, better than that of most native speakers I've met, be it online or in meatspace.

And to think that just a while ago I wanted to write something about Desty Nova in the glossary/wiki thread, something which Sergio would surely like to discuss...

Eh... I can't say I'm very religious, but I hope he's in a better place now.

Extremely sad to hear about this. I hadn't seen him post recently and hadn't thought much about it, and certainly didn't expect things to have turned out this way.
