It isn't really Gerda, but it struck me how she could be in a "realistic" depiction.

I was about to point out the same (although Gerda should look german-like, isn't she?)... anyway, it looks like a good visual aproach to the character. I'm really curious about how are they gonna adapt Gerda into the Live Action, since she wasn't in the anime... hopefully they don't mess her up.Caboclo Guerreiro wrote:But... that is not a human being.... it is a hyperrealistic doll made by a japanese couple and doesn't look Japanese at all... I told you guys that it wasn't Gerda. I just said it was the closest best "realistic" depiction of a character that could be her. You guys are so blunt sometimesPablolein wrote:

If you look closely you can see the jpeg artifacts on those images very clearly.kamugin wrote:Sorry, moooV, I didn't get the meme. Is it some inside joke of designers?
I know it isn't Gerda. What I didn't understand was that you mentioned that "japanese characters must be conveyed by japanese people", because the image doesn't look japanese at all (and Gerda must look german), but maybe I was just lost in translation. I never meant to be negative about it, I also said I liked that aproach.kamugin wrote:I told you guys that it wasn't Gerda. You got half of it right. Gerda shouldn't look Asian because she was, presumably, a German descendant, unlike Yoko/Alita. What I was emphasizing is that characters taken from manga and Anime must be conveyed by Japanese artists because they have much less chance to screw up like Rodriguez and Cameron did with Alita.Pablolein wrote: I know it isn't Gerda. Sorry, ^Ripper, I just linked the images that were available in the article. They looked fine enough to me since I was posting from my smartphone and my age is starting to affect my eyesight. However I think they are good enough to illustrate my opinion.^Ripper wrote: If you look closely you can see the jpeg artifacts on those images very clearly.
Especially the edges and red space.
They have been compressed too much.
I think, don't read in too much of it, but some say that gerda in the film will be a motorball player or something else, as if they were to choose that approach why not make an original character instead, as I can fathom that idea of gerda being a part of motorball.Pablolein wrote:I was about to point out the same (although Gerda should look german-like, isn't she?)... anyway, it looks like a good visual aproach to the character. I misunderstood the word "convey", my mistake.kamugin wrote:You got half of it right. Gerda shouldn't look Asian because she was, presumably, a German descendant, unlike Yoko/Alita. WHAT?!? If that's true, it's an awful choice. When I saw that Gerda was involved, i hoped it meant we were getting some flashbacks about mars, wich could have been cool. All the stuff about motorball in ths movie sounds so wrong, there's no need to rush that storyline for a first movie! Specially when it could have been saved for a sequel, and even make an entire movie about the motorball and it's own world.00_unit wrote: I think, don't read in too much of it, but some say that gerda in the film will be a motorball player or something else, as if they were to choose that approach why not make an original character instead, as I can fathom that idea of gerda being a part of motorball.
This is no news if you were following the movie and trailer discussion. This whole movie is wrong.Pablolein wrote: WHAT?!? If that's true, it's an awful choice. If true, it's sad.
I think you're sounding a bit too pessimistic about a movie that hasn't even come out yet. There's only been literally one trailer that was released so there isn't that much that you should judge off it other than rumors and speculation.kamugin wrote:You got half of it right.
