My daughter and I started this before we found out there was going to be an official novelization of the movie. So this is a prose rendering of the first issue of the Manga. Please let me know what you think of it and if you think we should continue.

It's well written! Who's the primary author? I'm guessing one person is more like an editor?

Well, my daughter is 10. So I'm really doing the bulk of the writing. But she has been an active participant, so I felt obligated to put her name on it too.

It's been an interesting project so far. I've written several other books https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss ... s=jaquinta but this is the first time that I've done something with someone else's content. It's pretty cool working with a really well developed and top notch character and plot, but it's constraining as I am trying to keep very strictly to the content and not take liberties with it. (I spent ages trying to work out, in the opening scene, if the sun was going up or going down!)

Cool! It's a surprisingly long read but the source material really did have that many details didn't it.

It did turn out longer than I expected. But I was trying to stick hard to the source material. Not quite 1000 words per picture.
I wasn't sure how the fighting would turn out. Combat is frequent and an important part in Alita, but it doesn't translate well to prose. But I grew up with martial arts, and did spent many years as a sword fighter. (And my daughter is currently studying for her black belt!) I hoped that would give me some vocabulary to do them justice.
Any other votes? Should we continue?

Not too many people seemed that into this. And someone on Reddit found where the Japanese novel was listed on English Amazon. That arrived yesterday and I've moved onto translating that. The first two pages took me about 2 hours last night, so it's slow going. The first chapter will take about a week. I'll post it here when I have it and see if there is more interest in that.
