Manga origin with Yoko's lookalike

Post by Sam »

Don't remember if there was a topic about appearances of gunnm in other mangas but I found out that there's a Yoko lookalike (at least to me) in chapt. 74 of Origin (a very good manga btw, even if the plot is simple)
Here's a link to what I mean: http://mangakakalot.com/chapter/origin/chapter_74

It very much looks like when she was doing motorball IMO.

I have been reading this manga. But I don't believe she looks as Alita , just a similar hair cut. I do also believe that character is also a robot.

I don't think it is a reference also.

After reading this post, I started reading this Origin manga and I reached the conclusion that it presents some fresh new ideas about how androids (wrongly called "robots" in the manga) should behave and in which ways they differ from humans. Their bodies are more similar to the cyborgs from Ghost In The Shell, I think GITS is the biggest reference Boichi takes to crate his "robots", however, as I said before, their behavior is something fresh even for us, so used to cyborgs/androids/robots. In some way, he takes back some ideas from Isaac Asimov.

I have read a few things from Boichi before: Raqiya and the SF short history Hotel that left a deep positive impression in me in spite of being one of his earliest works. Late he would redrawn the whole story as Hotel Since 2079. He changed the conclusion also, thus the first version still is my favorite. Boichi is Korean, but works in Japan and has an engineer degree.

If someone is wondering about my newest choice of avatar, it is because here in Brazil people are about to elect a nazi for president. That's it, a plain nazi. This country is crazy and the social order is in grave danger of falling apart. Gladly Sergio didn't live to see such disgrace. If I disappear from this forum, chances are that I was arrested as a political dissident. Shit happens guys, sometimes really big shit. moooV will be able to understand better.

Yep, I understand. However, I didn't know it would come to this shit even in Brazil. Btw, lots of people think that Putin has finally gone mad in clinical sense, because he is really talking about a nuclear war for serious.

PS.
Spoiler:
I've finally got an offer from abroad and I have good chances of celebrating 2019 new year in Tokyo. One of my long-term clients from Japan has offered me (and my wife, she's doing graphics too and we work in a team!) a lifetime contract with a huge salary (it's huge even by Tokyo's standards) and a full relocation. Right now they're going over all the bureaucracy stuff, visas, etc.
I've already been to Tokyo this year - they've invited me, shown me lots of nice places (like Robot Restaurant and Hakone hot springs), etc. Basically, I was drinking alcohol with them for a week and had fun.

Right now I'm at this level: example one, example two. Anyway, I don't think I'll do any manga fanart ever again - even though I'm able to do it a lot nicer now.

 Dude, that's insane! I know professionals can do this on a daily basis, but that's seriously amazing!
What's the renderer you're using?
Congrats anyway for your work (you and your wife) and good luck for this new job of yours.

Thanks! Btw, they've originally noticed me (and kept hiring for projects on a freelance basis) several years ago because of the fanart work I did.

I've reached the conclusion that it isn't safe to live in third world countries. Even if we have a relative calm period of democracy for some years (33 so far), soon or later dictatorship will return. If anybody is interested, this interview sums up what's going on here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MX8G5ECdvA
About Putin, I think he is reacting as expected since the USA and NATO keep pressing more and more Russia. NATO is a product of the cold war, it should have disappeared with it. Instead they are strengthening themselves and setting up bases in countries that were from the now extinct Warsaw Pact and even in ex Soviet republics in a clear provocation to Russia. So Putin have all the reason to be freaking out. Nuclear weapons aren't meant to be used, only to threaten and discourage attacks. The USA have all the interest in restarting the cold war so they can justify absurd amount of money their military and, most important, the armament industry eat up every year. Russia has only two military bases outside the country, the US has dozens.

Congrats on your honed skills and job offer, they are well deserved. :good:

Boichi just has that similar realistic style that Kishiro used to have. I plan on reading his stuff just for the art alone, Wallman and Origin. I still need to read Blame!, too.

Boichi is skilled, but I don't think his style is very similar to Kishiro's. Kishiro's female characters have more varied faces and they don't have huge foreheads that would make them look like sufferers of hydrocephalus.

(Not saying that Origin wasn't somewhat interesting, especially if one ignores the ending... And Raqiya - not written by Boichi, though - was well-drawn and absurd to the point of being hilarious.)
