If this does get past 1st movie my question is how could they do the wars on mars without getting into R rated content as from my knowledge hollywood has yet to actually make a film with kids as dark as gunnm is o.O?

Not meaning to be negative here, but considering I've been feeling dread for the movie since Rodriguez was announced as director, I wasn't that surprised when I saw the trailer. As soon as I saw those huge Gollum eyes, I thought, "Yep. Seems about right." Having said that, I don't know whether I like it or hate it. A part of me thinks it could actually work while another part feels it's a bit ridiculous. I guess I'll have to wait until the movie's been out for 6 months before judging its success or failure. I don't think I'll be paying to see it, though. Will just wait till it's out on TV.

Now, as for the other elements of the movie, I'm pretty well disappointed. A lot of it seems to be taken from the anime rather than the manga, which is what makes BAA awesome, in my view. Still, I'm hoping with this Hollywoodised anime big-eyed, prettied-up version (Scrapyard looks nowhere near as hardcore as I would have liked), there may be a clear distinction between the anime/movie and the manga, which will make me feel better about the manga...like it's not being stolen from me or something, as a fan, because its story stays unique and untampered with, if that makes sense.

I hope the movie's a success, anyway, especially for Rosa, who worked and bruised her ass off, and for Kishiro who's been waiting in limboland for his work to be finally released on the big screen. It sounds from his blog that he's gotten a bit of a second wind, so that might bode very well for future work he does. Fingers crossed.

I don't know - I don't really like it. The concept is great, but the colours look all wrong. Her eyes are supposed to be dark brown, even black, like Asian eyes. And I'm pretty disappointed that with all that new tech, they couldn't make her skin look younger. I'm not ageist or against female empowerment here, but Alita is supposed to look 14 years old when Ido first finds her.

I could never figure out what colour her war paint was supposed to be. The anime has it as red, while the manga calls it 'tan' (and, in fact, we're meant to believe it's sh** because Alita is in the sewers when she paints it on).

As far as her skin (in the poster goes), it seems ok to me, young enough. Perhaps too "human" since her face is artificial, only her brain is flesh. But not at first, as we saw in the Martian Chronicles. Her eye color is also ok, even the background colored image in this forum shows clear brown eyes. About the war paint, any ink, oil, blood (or shit) she has at hand, goes when she enters in "war mode". In the ZOTT, the war paint becomes somewhat metallic and a permanent feature of her face. Still a good poster that I wouldn't mind to put in my wall.

Judging from three trailers, I don't like it at all - it's so far from the original story and atmosphere. They've also put lots of cliches in it, just because they can.

It looks okay as a random SF movie, but it still looks passable at best as an adaptation. I will be always salty sad that they didn't drop those damn creepy bug eyes. Rosa Salazar would look even better as Alita without them.

I kinda like the new date, though I doubt it will get released on Valentine's in my country. Huh, apparently it will. Neato! I know what I'll be doing with my partner on Valentine's '19, then! Hope it turns out to be less painful to watch than GitS.

Which part do you thing will be the one underused ? The past with Hugo or Motorball ? I don't believe is possible to have both in a 2h movie , taking in account that the main part of the movie seams to be the self discovery of Alita.

I don't mind if Hugo part are just flashbacks, because I prefer to see more Motorball.

Everything, since they crammed up 3 volumes plus the OVAs inside this movie. By the other side, we will have too much of Hugo, from beginning to the end.

Watching the last trailer, I saw that, contrary to my hopes, they didn't change anything about her face. I just can't stand it, but it's not only that: her hair is ugly, her bodies aren't cool. This is actually sad, because I can't find anything that I like about this movie. At the very best, I will just fast forward a camrip of it.

Apparently they completely changed Nova's character. Nova is the one that runs tiphares/Zalem and he is obsessed with its citizens having perfect genetics like on some GATTACA shit.
Nova kicked out Ido and Chiren from zalem because their child had some type of genetic disease.

Ido was married to Chiren and they had a child together. They both split after the death of their child.

Grewishka was an ex motorball star.

Hugo's backstory is still the same thankfully.

But yeah they're just changing things left and right, source material be damned to them.
The most disappointing change is Nova's character, like what's even the point of having him in the movie if they changed him so much?
Might as well be a different character all together.

Yes guys I was like you, as a fan, the trailers made me sad. But I have read many previews of 20-25 or 30 minutes of the movie seen by people. And they are all in love with the movie.

They say they were afraid because of the trailers at first, but now they are totally believer of the movie after seen 20 minute of the preview.

Of course, to the makers of that kind of movies, always there must be a "super villain" that personifies the essence of evil. The audience must know exactly who is to be hated. Nova as a victim of the system wouldn't do.
