Who bought Alita's Blu-Ray?

Post by kamugin »

Just a question to break the ice and I'm curious actually. Who was enthusiastic enough about the live action movie to actually buy the Blu-Ray (or DVD) or even downloaded it? As for me, albeit I went to the movies to watch, I wasn't impressed in any way and I didn't even bother to download it.

Triple seven post, yay!

No I prefer supporting the official thing(manga, anime, figurines from the manga). This is more I describe as a fan project(a certain truth as the producer is a fan of the series so it is kinda true). Although it is an expensive fan project that has a hollywood vibe to it, I think I moved on pretty quick not something you reminiscence for a long time and look back with blissful nostalgia I just describe it as "could be better" but "could be worse", though it is one of the best manga/anime adaptation(compared to other adapation out there in the field so it is not saying much) in live action we seen(cowboy bebop was ;-(*) ). I think the best one I seen so far was the gantz live action movie(i had fun watching it) battle royale and maundy thursday as well.

My question for anyone is who was enthusiastic to buy this https://www.prime1studio.com/baa-alita- ... -03ut.html
This is the ultimate wallet crusher a 4 digit price tag is insane 300-400 is my limit. You have to be PLATINUM mad to get it.

I don't agree about your "fan project" interpretation since Kishiro and Kodansha (and perhaps even Shueisha since it was the original publisher) both got money from the film itself and merchandising (probably), so unfortunately it has Alita's brand, but the film can be seen as an alternate version, much like the original OVAs. Speaking of those, the film was better. However I agree that it totally fails to leave a lingering impression and will be forgotten pretty quick.

Man you're truly evil! I was totally unaware of the existence of that statue! Now I'll have to kill somebody (or rob a bank) to get my hands on it!
Alita in her tuned agent phase (as I was presented to her for the first time, since volume 4 was the first one that I read), totally crazy with anger, super badass fighting against the Barjack! An statue with an almost perfect face, an almost perfect rendition of her! My blood is already boiling and tears are dripping from my eyes (mostly cuz of the price tag)! None of those movie based statues or action figures deserved a second look from me but this one, this one... It's a dream becoming true!

Sorry man but I knew you love the tuned agent arc so much but I wanted to show you how kickass it was because, it is mighty impressive. The fan project you make a point as most of them have no monetization methods behind it but this is something they want to franchise out of and i do think it will be forgotten pretty quickly it didn't leave a lasting impact(at least it is not something i will talk about or think back about for years).

That is the premium edition this version is cheaper by 500 dollars but your wife will think your nuts for investing on such an expensive product. https://www.prime1studio.com/baa-alita- ... ba-03.html(899 dollars)

She is way beyond "impressive".

Perhaps you misread me because I did agree with you about that.

My wife knows very well that I'm a nutjob. The most expensive statue I've bought so far was this one https://www.sideshow.com/collectibles/d ... les-300670 And I had to buy it twice because I damaged the first one when I was cleaning it. (I'm not a superhero comics fan but Supergirl was pretty badass in some stories that I read about 30 years ago and since then I like her... badass girls kickin’ butts, you can see a pattern here).
That less expensive one is awesome and all but I go full afterburners after a figure that I really want.

I didn't misread I merely agreed with your sentiment but i could have word it better to make it clearer

Hence the price tag

wow that figurine is 500 dollars in usd(approx 676 aud) it looks really good. The most expensive figure i got is this https://solarisjapan.com/products/binbo ... se-freeing(one of my favourite anime characters)
and this too https://solarisjapan.com/products/muv-l ... er-freeing

both of them would cost approximate 400aud which is already insane for me enough

Figurine collecting is really addictive, be warned.
That Momiji figure you showed me before. I guess she became very popular because she was going for more than the double of Sakura Ichiko's https://myfigurecollection.net/item/125006 I have yet to go back to Bimbougami Ga! I would finish more manga if I wasn't constantly skipping from one to another.
Those bunny girls by FREEing are expensive because of their size (1/4) I only have one of their bunnies.

In overall Japanese anime figures are much cheaper than American ones (the good well made ones) because of their smaller sizes. 1/8, 1/7 most of the time, 1/6 and above are a minority.

I was actually tempted in buying the BR but man do I hate swapping out Physical Media ( Games or Movies ) 😑

Reasonable Manga Collector though... Obviously including the entire Battle Angel Collection 😁

My weak spot though lies with 1:16 Scale RC Tank Modelling and Higher End Figures 😏

I don't see that as a problem since the effort is minimal and you probably will watch the Blu-Ray only once. But my question was if you liked the film enough to buy a physical copy (or even a digital one).

Nice collections you have there. Me too I collect manga (paper media), figurines (girls, please, no monsters allowed) and military aircraft models.

I thought that CG face was a total disaster.

Besides looking shitty it seems like a ticking sexist time bomb. Zapan and Jashugan male actors both get to keep their natural faces.

Body swap on Rose Salazar would be 10x better in my opinion. That poor woman got screwed.

I used to think Natalie Portman or Christina Ricci would be ideal.

The only good thing I can say about the movie is if they do a reboot streaming series (PLEASE DISNEY!!!!) they can just skip books one and two and just start at motorball. Call the movie good enough and o-well the HUGE Desty Nova reworkings in the movie.

They COMPLETELY screwed up Tiphares and looking back with people I knew in the vacinity of Lightstorm entertainment...I think they designed it around 09ish when Transformers was still "hot", because the basic Tiphares surfaced like the DeathStar is still so cool and so easy to pull off in CG.

Male actors had their faces because they were from scrapyard and they are not advanced/from another planet and Alita had different face precisely for that purpose, I don't see how is it sexist

Well, there's no reason why humans born in Mars would have huge eyes.

But you didn't answer, have you bought the Blu-Ray or /DVD?

Is not it naturally for being from drastically different environment to look drastically different. Although she did adapt to the Earth's environment quite easily, or rather it was not even a matter of adaptation as far as her biology goes. But I guess that's because the technology is so advanced that there they are complately turned into cyborgs, while people on earth only swap limbs and etc. That said, Zapan and others are still weirdly fully cyborg and just has his face skin on the cyborg head... So the explanation still does not work on deeper level since they still have technology to be turned into 'full' cyborgs. Guess they would address it in later movies and completely derail from the canon

and nope, I have never bought Blu-Rays. I just saw Alita movie twice in cinema.

We all know that the reason for the huge eyes are an off movie decision, there's nothing in the movie that justifies them and nobody seems to notice the oddity.

Well, so far nobody was enthusiastic enough to buy the Blu-Ray or the DVD. But you watching it twice I think is quite above the average here.

Yea, I actually liked the movie quite a lot. Everything necessary for it to be a Battle Angel was in it in some form or another to please both existing and new customers except for the violence which was kinda tame compared to the Manga - Bit of a shame 🤔

As for the eyes I'm cool with them too - Their size are after all one of her trademark features ( I'd have been more worried about her Octopus Lips 😗 ).

In the context of the Movie ( barely any background story the Manga fanbase knows ) one could simply go with her Space oriented combat greatly benefitting from having larger eyes as it aids with information acquisition in the darkness like how a bigger camera lens would also do in reality.

Maybe it's also only a modification that is being used by certain combat styles predominantly used by a certain cast of female soldiers? 😘
