Look, I'm sorry about disappearing, and my life being in total upheaval, but basically... I've sort of fallen out of love with BAA. I just don't want to spend a ton of time translating something I don't think is that good anymore.
I mean, look at what the last couple months have brought us:
- Giant rampaging penis monster
- Boring, cliche Zekka/Toji sidestory
- Endless Jovian ZOTT battle
- Naruto-esque "Oh, I remember my friends saying something nice about me, so I have the will to continue"
- DBZ-esque "I have a new technique/power level/body, so now I can totally beat anyone"
- Caerula's endless backstory, which fleshed out a history of the world that DIDN'T NEED TO BE FLESHED OUT. (also, vampires? wtf)
It's continued to have very little character growth, and that which there is often feels telegraphed and unimpressive (Super Nova showdown aside). Realize now that BAA:LO is now longer than the original BAA, and, in my estimation, maybe 1/10th as good.
In the original, when Alita beat someone in a fight, it was due to her ferocity and personal growth, not unlocking a switch in her brain or getting a new body. Every fight was meaningful. That hasn't been the case at all here.
Sorry to rant about it, but I have been really disappointed by all the Last Order stuff, and I'm not motivated to continue translating. I'll post summaries of the chapters, but honestly, if you guys love it so much, you should be buying it. I do, and I don't even like the series that much. Hell, I have three copies of some of this stuff. The Ultra Jump, the Japanese tankobon, and the US graphic novel. Having the sneak preview of the raws with a summary is more than enough. I feel awful and two-faced when I email the Kishiros with a translation question, then turn around and help scanslate it and take money out of their pockets -- when they have been obsequiously nice to me and everyone who has a question.
Anyways, yeah, hope you all the best, but I don't think I can continue on with this (as I said when I first joined, I may leave at any point).

we buy it you know
but it's published in english and other languages more than 1.5 years after japanese publication ...
it's also hard to wait 6 month to read one volume at a time, while we could get our dose every month
and for me, LO is better than original serie, which was written "on the run", with no planning or background at all. now we know how the earth and solar system came to what we saw in BAA, how gally's head was trashed in the scrapyard etc... this is the real deal, the original story is merely an introduction
but i already talked of that a lot with french BAA lovers and readers, and i never was able to convince any to read further, even if the ones that were only doubting are now eager to know what happens next
farewell, Bonedaddy the Heretic

Virtually "Yes". But shipment is too damn expensive. Nine volumes of BAA - LO will cost me £45 + £32 (for shipment) + VAT taxes (probably 12% or smth or 0 finally it doesn't matter) ..... So i hope you understand why i'm not so happy:p (that's example from amazon.com)HumanRage wrote:you can buy on online stores no ?Shivalitka wrote: If i have that possibility ... Why not try amazon.com? (the US one).Shivalitka wrote:Virtually "Yes". But shipment is too damn expensive. First off... they calculate prices in dollars. Which is rather weak at the moment compared to Euro.
So... while you WOULD pay almost the same price for the books (around 43£ - or about 90$) shipping is cheaper - only around 19£(40$).
Plus... LO Volumes 6,7,8 and 9 are in a 4 for 3 promotion at the moment (buy 4 items that qualify and get the cheapest one of the 4 for free - you only pay postage for it).
Plus... using http://www.mturk.com/ one can make moneys (if one has times

Downside... US amazon.com is out of LO Volumes 2-5.

And money/gift certificates earned through m-turk can't be used on other amazons.
Penis sucked.bonedaddy wrote:I mean, look at what the last couple months have brought us:

Jovian and Toji fight show a different type of fight with less technic and more firepower.
About the new will or ability of Alita it's more related to the Fata Morgata than herself.
And the vampire story is a way of showing how the the scrapyard and Tiphares appeared.
Personnaly i'm hopping that side-stories are over and we will be back on Alita past and terraforming wars.
Some people read the scanlation and buy the volume when it's out...bonedaddy wrote:I feel awful and two-faced when I email the Kishiros with a translation question, then turn around and help scanslate it and take money out of their pockets -- when they have been obsequiously nice to me and everyone who has a question.
NP, good work anyway. ^^bonedaddy wrote:Anyways, yeah, hope you all the best, but I don't think I can continue on with this (as I said when I first joined, I may leave at any point).

Personally, I could take another volume of how Sanguis came to possess the two swords she does currently, it's just that good to me.
It sounds like bonedaddy's got a lot of pent-up sour grapes, and I don't want to deprive him of that.
At the same time, I think he's making terrible sweeping generalizations that are very unfair to Kishiro's new work, which he admitted wasn't going to be very similar to the first BAA series.
The Fata Morgana's in her body, and her brain, and I do believe that's what keeping her from being hacked, not "DBZ-esque" body modifications that make her "unbeatable."
So, no character development, eh? What WAS that whole backstory with Toji and Zekka, then, but development, a way to better know our characters?
The fact that Tiphares and the Scrapyard "didn't need to be fleshed out" is merely your opinion.
Did you notice that every time someone does learn a new technique, or tries something new, it often doesn't automatically spell the end of the fight, or even give them a distinct advantage? The same can be said of the new bodies characters are getting, except Alita's, and her's is a VERY good reason.
I would also like for you to attempt explaining immortality without vamprisim without ripping off something cool, like vampires. Would you rather the last remaining immortal be a god? A Buddha? Or something Kishiro didn't think was scientifically possible in the universe he's creating?
I personally think Kishiro's gone mad with insane and wonderful ideas, and I support him as a genuis, and purchase everything he's ever done, and will continue to do so.
Take care, regardless, sir. I'm sure you'll find something more fulfilling to occupy yourself, and I wish you the best.

The shortage is probably just temporary.Shivalitka wrote:Thanks denzacar that makes me think.... but without 2-5.... ehm anyone know where i can get those volumes ?
See... the reason Last Order Volumes are in the 4 for 3 promotion is because they are getting rid of the old stock.
VIZ has changed its logo for the LO volumes 2 times so far.
Plus, both Alita serials were transferred from VIZ's "Action" section to the "VIZ Media" section - and so there were changes to covers as well.
Now... New editions of the older Volumes are printed under the "VIZ Media" logo (plus, the new V logo) so bookstores are getting rid of the old-old to make room for the new-old and new-new editions.
On a personal note... Bastards.

Disrupting the esthetic balance of my collection...
Oh... and regarding the LO 2-5...
You can still find those on Amazon.co.uk (though they are running out of them) and the other amazons such as amazon.de under English books.
Only thing is - different countries, different money. So prices might vary.
But look around you ...
Death and Light are everywhere, always, and they begin, end, strive,
attend, into and upon the Dream of the Nameless that is the world,
burning words within Samsara, perhaps to create a thing of beauty.

by the way, do you guys still need translation for this chapters? and/or any chapters before? or do you guys already have someone working on it?
I could do it, but I am translating from the chinese "raws", which i have up to ch 72. (read chinese fluently here)
There may be some distortion to the original dialogue since it is from Japanese -> Chinese -> English.

from chap 68 page 12 to chapter 71, no translation, so all you can do will be gladly accepted, and a statue of you will be erectednewbieff wrote:by the way, do you guys still need translation for this chapters? and/or any chapters before? or do you guys already have someone working on it?

ok, i have ch 68 script done (pg 12 to 29), although very rough, probably need some major revising, specially the names, which are all off (seriously, how the hell do you translate names!)
do i post it here or send it to someone?
edit: oh yea, it would really help, if i knew what the translation for the previous few pages are (the ones before 12), since how do you pronounce Toji's master name (吞破), is it Tonha? donhua? donha? chinese has same letters but pronounce completely different (pronounced "Tuen Puo")
