BA Alita movie details

Point is not in that. When something becomes popular, it becomes MAINSTREAM. A mainstream masterpiece? Then it would be just mainstream.
I don't want to see cheap chinese Alita dolls in shops, I don't want to see advertisements with it, I don't want to hear about it in some movie critics' interviews, and don't want to see games based on it...
That's the point. Of course, I (or we) won't pay attention to some worthless people's opinions, who say that it sucks and so on... as it is spoken here in Russia, will put a penis (hooy) on their opinion... but... then it will become mainstream, and I think, it will be an end of it. =(((

No, I don't, but, obviously, 99% or all popular movies are trash, even if the story is good. It is adopted to bring people to theaters, not to explain the idea of the original, or touch their emotions. I know only one movie (though not based on a book, is it?), which is popular and not spoiled by producers' and investors' intents - The Matrix (only first part, others were made for money, with no soul), and which had IDEA, and even become a cult.Do you relieve believe that only trash is allowed to be popular?
And what are you expecting from a movie based on a book, which will have (as I've heard) about 300m$ budget. Which will HAVE to make a PROFIT to return all money invested with a large multiplier, which MEANS that the movie will be made for a large audience, which, in return, means that it will have PG-13 rating, so we WON'T see lots of blood, brains, and other beautiful stuff ---> the story will be ADOPTED to match producers' and investors' requirements for it, so it will suck in idea, even if it will be brilliantly made and will be perfect in all aspects.
But still, it won't be the book anyway, so people will remember it as "another movie, which I've downloaded from torrent, watched, deleted, and forgot about it". Do you understand, what I'm trying to tell you? =///
I meant to say that, of course, we will not pay attention to people, who would say that this movie sucks, so the book sucks...Excuse me, but I understood nothing here!!Int 29Ah wrote:

"To put (lay) a penis ('hooy' is a swearing russian word with the same meaning, which is used in this phrase) on something" is a phraseologism which means that something is not important to a person, is a subject for neglection or he doesn't care about it.

1) Matrix was a fake. They robbed the original idea (at least, that is the only possible conclusion), and, due to the success, as they could not rob the continuation, and without their own ability to write it, they gave us trash!!!
2) Actually, Alita has already had more than 4,000 pages published. Obviously, it is impossible to short that to a 2-hour film (and, as you must have noticed, 2-hour films seldom go beyond 100 minutes)
Perhaps they will make a series, but, honestly, I don't like James Cameron. He is not the sort of filmmaker i would applaud. And, no, he does not have talent to direct actors. Characters like Alita, Nova, Vilma and Shumira (to say the least) do require a great director.

Then, YOU have completely proven my point of view - ALL movies for mass audience are trash.1) Matrix was a fake. +1, I fully share your opinion on this subject.Perhaps they will make a series, but, honestly, I don't like James Cameron. He is not the sort of filmmaker i would applaud. One of my favorite directors, Darren Aronofsky could work.
He has directed masterpieces like Pi and Requiem for a Dream. Also The Fountain are very good. But the fountain should have been better with the original actors, Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. And if the budget wasn't cut in half
Warner Bros had Darren Aronofsky for there first choice of directing Batman Begins.
Christopher Nolan(the guy that only makes masterpieces) could also work as director

I read somewhere that Kishiro-san's personal pick was Paul Verhoeven. He would make a really fun, funny and ideally ultra-violent version, but alas he would make it a soulless movie.
Ridley Scott is an amazing director and isn't squeamish about ultra-violence either. He would coax some great performances and overall would be a great choice, but I feel he would miss on the levity. It would be great, but somehow not gleeful.
Gilliam used to be great but his recent output doesn't indicate him as a contender. Maybe if this movie were made in the 90's.
Regarding the Fountain I have to say it was mainly the budget getting slashed that really hurt the movie. Jackman and Weisz gave great performances whereas Pitt and Blanchett, though of equally calibre, were miscast.
Aronofsky in my eyes has yet to prove himself to be a truly great director, especially one capable of making Battle Angel. I would say he's at the same point in his career as Alex Proyas. They each came out really strong with two smallish yet excellent films, but stumbled in their major follow-ups.
Nolan I think is over-rated at this point. I'll allow The Dark Knight a chance to alter that opinion. I mean I love Memento and The Prestige, but I wasn't nearly as impressed with The Following, Insomnia, or Batman Begins. That to me makes him uneven. Or at least as fallible as Scott and Cameron.
Cameron I believe is up there with Scott. I personally think he is a great director who has good reason to have been allowed to adapt it. I do admit that his later films like True Lies and Titanic were not as great as his previous films, but they were still really good ones. Hate on Titanic all you want, but it was very effective the one time I saw it. Assuming he hasn't gone George Lucas on us in the past 12 years, he is still a contender. Will have to see Avatar to get a better idea of where he is right now.
Some others I like are David Fincher, Guillermo Del Toro, and maybe Jeunet & Caro.
The only other thing that's truly worrisome is the PG-13 rating. That really sucks, but so far as Viz' rating system is concerned it's older teen material. Not mature so it sort of makes sense. Sort of. In the end I'm not sure anyone could get away with an R rating if the budget is really supposed to be $300M.

Misquoted and misunderstood.nevets1219 wrote:No more movie?
Cameron mentioned in one of those interviews that I am too lazy to dig up, how he plans to do a short movie that would present the ability of the new 3D tech - in a drama setting.
No action, no big budget. Simply a dramatic story with few actors to show us how "cooler it all is in 3D".
See... to you LOTR movie is an example of a good ecranisation of a famous book.MugattuHasGotchu wrote:I don't think I can agree with you on that. If those people have that attitude they were never going to get into the manga to begin with so there's no loss there. It wouldn't be any more awful than not having any of the people who aren't part of the readership now.
The manga still exists and I personally believe readership would definitely increase due to the movie increasing awareness. I'll bet there was indeed an increment in the Night Watch readership following the movie, but probably not a very significant one because it wasn't a very good movie.
My counter example would be The Lord of the Rings. Sure you have people who watched the movies and won't ever read the books, but they never would have anyway. But the awareness that the movies brought has definitely increased its sales for those who would. Is that so awful?
To me its a sacrilege.
I've never seen the third part in entirety - I get urges to throw something at the screen when watching for more than 5 minutes of that.
Personally, I don't give a fuck about all those people who only saw the movie and never read the book, or those who say that the book is boring and that the movie is way better (We love you Orlando Bloom!!) - as long as they don't address me or try to talk to me about the movie or the books. Any books.
It is really for their own good. I might get angry and hurt them if they start spewing inane comments about this an that which they saw in the movie and compare it to what Tolkein has written.
Increased readership means nothing unless you are expecting it to make more money for Kishiro so he would then do what?
Superproduce the story and characters like Lucas did with Star Wars?
Expand it and stretch it until it does not even resemble the original?
Or continue it indefinitely like what they are doing with Naruto and Bleach?
Also... Increased readership means only one thing for certain.
More morons per read page.
You know... people who come up with ideas like "Hey, why don't we make this into a musical?"
Or a reality show.
Or a quiz show.
Or a burger.
And I don't want Alita to sell dead cow meat while a pervert clown fondles her private parts.
And not only will the Alita's story be exposed to morons, who will then demand moronic things to be produced for them and SOMEONE somewhere will surely oblige - it is a cardinal rule that any story that is "going bigtime" MUST be dumbed down to please the lowest common denominator.
Recent example...
Persepolis.
I've made an error to have read the comic first.
Now, I can't make myself watch the movie.
It is a rather serious story, told in a casual and open way.
Which IS something when you are talking about a totalitarian religious government that goes around the "issue" of not executing virgins by having someone "marrying" her, having sex with her for one night, so that the soldiers could shoot her in the morning without interfering with religious laws.
And then sending 5$ as a dowry to her parents.
That is just one of sub-stories in the comic, which is based on actual autobiographic events.
And then I check it out on imdb, and "dumb down"changes scream at me from the shots in the gallery.
I mean... If you had to make THOSE small changes to make it more understandable to the audience - what else did you throw out and put in instead?
Not to mention the changes in the poster for the US release.
Dropping the cigar and the "bored and sad" look of the main character for a more positive and determined one...
So where does that leave us with Alita?
If we are lucky... VERY, VERY, VERY lucky...
With at least one Star Wars, Highlander or Matrix quality movie(no Roman numerals here, talking about first movies) - before it degrades into Jar Jars, Ewokses and pointless car chases.
If we are just lucky - it will fare like Final Fantasy TSW.
Not good enough to warrant a sequel but enough eye candy to entertain for a while.
Very little morons will stay attached to the movie for a longer time, and after a while it will be only us, the old fans, watching it in secret on our exclusive edition Blue-Rays.
If we are not lucky - LOTR movies.
Changes to fit in Liv Tyler and give her more text (as if she can act), changes to make Elrond more like Agent Smith, changes to make cute hobbits more cool, shield-surfing elves... etc. etc.
And if we are REAAAALY unlucky - someone will decide to re-imagine it and drop it all into Tim Burton's hands and he will yet again try to make another morbid goth/emo wet dream staring Johnny Depp and if possible a skinny actress with dark rings around her eyes.
Which will naturally, due to all Burton/Depp fan-boy-girls - be a success!
And then someone will say - "You know what? Lets make into a musical!"
And soonafter I will have to kill some clowns again.
But look around you ...
Death and Light are everywhere, always, and they begin, end, strive,
attend, into and upon the Dream of the Nameless that is the world,
burning words within Samsara, perhaps to create a thing of beauty.

Errr... What about Johny Depp playing Desty Nova.
