if that girls name really is olympe then it's probably a reference to

E.T.A Hoffmans "Sandmann", i do not know how much you guys know about german literature but in this story there is a guy named Nathanael who turned crazy because his father died in an accident and later in the story he falls in love with a doll named Olympe.

I must say, crazy stuff making all these references to other things :D

BAA:LO is awesome :|

Olympe looks like Misha in some way. I wonder if Misha is a fan of Sechs now.

O, Misha, I wish she makes an apparition again. Her as a Zechs groopy could be fun, but a little romance could be nice, too. (An a little weird when you consider Zechs origins, but why not.lol.).

She could have a more inportant role in the future, too. Didn't they say somewhere that some very important people were part of the cult?

Sechs started as a girl, lest we forget. And Misha's full-flesh...I wonder...if she'll play any part in this further.

I'd lol hard if Misha was revealed to be a travestite. But it's not Kishiro kind of humour, so it's not gonna happen soon.
Well, it would make a good setting for an hillarious doujin. Too bad "gunnm" and "doujin" seems to be mutually exclusive. :(

My comments on the translation.

page 5 raw223
Homme du Feu: Monsieur Pissarro
Homme du feu: How long do I still have to live?/How long will I still live? (It depends if the question reflects a curse or a beseech. It is not clear to me.)
Pissarro: Also, we've prepared a special reward. (missing comma)

page 7 raw225
Olympe: You've become admirable...

page 8 raw226
Olympe: Homme du feu... yes... You received that name as a tribute for becoming the Venusian representative.

[Finger nibbler? What does it mean? Would it not be nail nibbler?]

page 12 raw230
<Igrec: At the atelier, we'd practice with elimination fights.> (missing comma)
<Igrec: Once I tore up my enemy into pieces, I'd return...> (missing comma)

page 13 raw231
<Igrec: Olympe had a different smell from the Guignols and the other humans.> (different than has never been good English, for God’s sake!!)

page 20 raw238
<Igrec: The meat, blood, bones are totally different from a human or guignol>

page 22 raw240
<Igrec: Have I been deceived!?>
<Igrec: Have I been deceived!?>
<Igrec: Have I been deceived!?>
<Igrec: Were all lies!?>

page 25 raw243
Olympe: But, believe me, Igrec. (missing comma)
Olympe: My feelings were not lies.
panel2
<Igrec: I still... >
<Igrec: cannot say where the lie ends and where the truth begins...>
Pissarro: This girl is a fairly old antique doll; there were lots of troubles repairing her. (if its is plural…)
Igrec: For your almightiness and the glorious république, I'll, without fail, make of your enemies a blood bath. (missing comma)
Igrec: In exchange, I want you to hear my wish. (missing comma)

page 27 raw245
panel1
Pissarro: All right! Tell me! (punctuation)

So, Igrec/Homme du Feu wants to devour the girl but wants her free? And everything takes place in a fleshy ship? At the same time, his object of desire is unattainable, and she even apologizes for not been eatable/fuckable?
Gee! This chapter is a representation of repressed sexuality!! The translator’s note on the first page summarizes it all!

<Igrec: Have I been betrayed!?>
<Igrec: Have I been deceived!?>

I prefer you leave each sentence with differente words, just like the original japanese. Three differents words, yet related.

Why the hell she's an android? While evrything on the ship is biological?
Those frog-eaters are definrtly perverts :D
And why do you think she's not f…able? She got her tits after all. Men can find a hole everywhere.

Have you read Ghost in the shell? I've recently concluded that it is just another one among the infinite cultural references Kishiro refers to. Alita's dilemna about being a human while being a cyborg is already commented there. The most interesting is that everything we've been commenting here about sexuality (would Alita be f…able or not) is already explained there.

GITS is my favorite scifi anime, here is the order

1st movie (1995) : "just to see" (you probably saw this one)

GITS Stand Alone Complex - first season (26eps)
GITS Innocence (2nd movie, independant from the serie, more like sequel of the 1st)
GITS SAC - 2nd Gig
GITS SAC Solid State Society (3rd movie, epilogue of the SERIE)

manga is 2x2 vol, and is really, really poor ... good ideas but the animation team writers were very, very good. some episodes are individual (stand alone), some others are part of the main serie (complex), some are both ( O_o :P )
they developed the manga far far better, really great, by design, animation quality, musics (yoko kanno !), and the way this hi-tech level (cyber brains, cyber meetings and breaking news, the future you would like to live in :D ) AND political, post-3rd WW background, AND adorable-kawai-cute tachikomas, kind of living artificial beings ...

really, really a must see for a sci-fi fan, i promise. this is just ... GREAT, 52x20 + 3x100 min of astonishement and drooling :idea:
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes. (Oscar Wilde)
Corporations have no soul to save, and they have no body to incarcerate. (Baron Thurlow)

Important detail about GITS:

The Manga, both series and the last film are from the same author. The first two films are based on the universum build in the manga and very good. These films reflect very good the man - cyborg - machine problematic. The series are more good action series about special forces and the last film belongs to the series as well. They were made after the great success of the film ;)

There is also a remake of the first movie - it is coming out in couple of days.
I guess Shirow needed more cash.

Its like the guy was replaced by his evil twin some years back.

He does Appleseed and GITS (and couple of other things) and then - PUF!
All we get are couple of pretty pictures here and there and a bunch of derivative work and shitload of merchandise.

And he used to write really deep philosophical texts and weapon and technology treatises.
Really a shame.
But look around you ...
Death and Light are everywhere, always, and they begin, end, strive,
attend, into and upon the Dream of the Nameless that is the world,
burning words within Samsara, perhaps to create a thing of beauty.

Argh, and the guys at that page call the remake GITS 2.0. Now it get's nearly impossible to make clear what film you are talking about. (until now everybody meant the second film, not the remake)

I only hope they don't destroy the perfect film

just a quick comment on the alita being fuckable and having tits thing....

I think its because our minds cling to physical interaction that she still has tits (not that way). In theory, your mind will start thinking like your outward appearance. So if a human mind gets implanted in a tank, they'll start thinking tank-ish. Also, ins't the human mind's stability dependent on pleasures? (doc's use to give women orgasms as medical treatment for psychotic behavior).

So in theory and in the way the human mind works. Alita is most likely fuckable (like the major has a few lesbian ventures as well), not just for the hell of it, but for way to maintain sanity and not to mention sanity.

(with her nano-based imaginos body its all the more likely, all she has to do is imagine the change, just like her blades and new suit)

I have never seen the movie (And I will have to wait for a new HD before trying to download any new movie. I have lost the meaning of the word space.), so I cannot compare, but to say that the manga is poor seems an exaggeration to me.

Anyway, I would like you to inform. Besides the original manga, there's only Man-machine Interface, right? Or is there anything else?

Yes, I promise I'll see the entire anime collection.
