About Gummn and G:LO
Well reciently 've gone trhough all the tomes and I've read again all that is out from Gumm, from the very start.
And after doing this I have a very strange feeling.
Gummn: Last Order does not stand at my expectatives.
And I say this is strange because I was really enjoying the releases and every chapter, but, for now, at the point we are in the story at the moment, I am unsatisfied, and I will explain here why.
The first point is that Kishiro seems to have forgoten al his previous plot, and nothing of Kaos and Scrapyard is ever told again and where's her goal to rescue her friend Lou? The plot seems tome way less deep and complex compared to the Story told in the first part of the series.
The seond and really close to the first point is that to me, the characters are now plain, THey no longer have the emotions and doubuts and... humanity they all had in Battle Angel. And the old ones, specially Gally and Nova seem to have lost their depht, and well, Gally seems now to be more mature and more focused, but nova has became a shadow clown of his former self in the first series, where he was an interesting (for me the most interesting) character in the series.
Also there is the relationship between the new plain characters, that is just a plain one aswell, wehres the rivality and respect that existed between Gally and Jasagun or with Den? The more complex relationship in this new comic is with Toji, and it's way less emotive.
Ahh I could go on but well, I think you guys get the idea, but I have posted this to ask if someone like me, who has read the full sotry reciently feels the same =S
I hope this ZOT plot arch finishes soon and we get something more intense and complex, something like what Gummn used to be.

Not sure this gonna happens soon.
He seems to start lacking some idea/motivations for the curent plot, and just fill the story with unecessary new characters now.
Maybe he's tired, maybe he's quite pushed by the editors, or maybe he prefers that kind of stuff, nobody knows.
Also, he probably didn't forgot all the old stuff at all (Fogia, the scrapyard, Chaos, Lou, etc..) but he probably just don't have the time/motivation to use that in the main story. He did made a short story about Koyomi recently after all.

I seriously cannot read the forums here anymore. That's all anyone here ever says. "It's not as good as the original." "It doesn't have the punch of the original." "I wish this ZOTT arc would end."
I'm done. I'll thank everyone for their hard work when chapters come out, but I can't read these forums anymore. I just can't.

Well, there is a lot of philosofy in LO, too. Sometime it's evident, like all the lt Payne drama, sometime it's more subtle, like Gally boasting for entire volume to be human, and ending beeing 100% machine.dannythm wrote:Well it even had some philosophy in the first part of the series, and that's something I really miss...
The thing is, I think, that we are used to this kind of thing from Yukito Kishiro now, and thus we see them as normal instead of new and original like it was for the first serie.
My personal grief about GLO is that the story is very slow compared to the former one. (each arc of the first lasted 1 volume and a half, now it's more 2-3). But it's still far, faaaaaaar better than the average shonen manga. Because at least, we can still expect 2-3 full fight per volume.
Doesn't mean I don't like it.
I never said I don't like it, I'm just a bit dissapointed ATM, and I know it has philosophy, but not in the way it was in BAA, or I feel it that way =PDream wrote:Well, there is a lot of philosofy in LO, too. Also the fact that I've been reading the Dune books series lately may influence me on that ^^Uu

The problems readers have with the narrative in Last order are simple:
1) volumes eight and nine were an interlude, necessary to (finally) explain/inform what had happened to the original planet of mankind. We were informed that something had destroyed human civilization, but we did not know what. Also, I daresay the story is great, and the narrative is magnific!
2) volumes ten, eleven and twelve are focused in the same plot: ZOTT. Finally, in phase 79 we had a strong narrative. Maybe we will have a deployment now.
I myself have been missing some characters, especially Erica and Gerda, as I have already commented here. I do believe that after the ZOTT (that seems to be about to be concluded) the other points (as Tiphares' organization after the débâcle) will then have a continuity.
P.S. Dune? Do you mean the novel by Frank Herbert? Well, Kishiro has been planting lots of cultural references in this great work, but I have never detected such a piece of trash!!!

I don't found any reference of dune in Gummn (not that I can recall), was just saying that those novels have so much philosophy in them that it may be the cause I see less philosophy in Gummn lately.Sergio wrote: P.S. And piece of trash... well, that depends on tastes, for me the six Dune novels written by Frank Herbert are the best pieces of art and literature ever concived by mankind (and trust me, I have readed A LOT).

The fact is: I ended up being offensive. Although I by far disagree with you, I do apologize.dannythm wrote: And piece of trash... well, that depends on tastes, for me the six Dune novels written by Frank Herbert are the best pieces of art and literature ever concived by mankind (and trust me, I have readed A LOT).
