Well, I used "¿" because I´m from Latinoamérica.

Sergio, I daresay the Spanish language is a lot more complete than English language, is a mix of the old Latin and German, so, the perversion thing You say is something... unconscious here.

Really, when I read the last Vol. of the original Gunnm [a long time ago], I needed more. I don´t want that happens again

The "weird letters" from variuos languages are justified because they represent different sounds from the plain letter.

In italian we have: à é è ì ò ù, which could be sometime omitted, like in the word "perché" that means "why", that can't be misreaded for any other word, yet you could mistake "e" (and) for "è" (is) or "torno" "i'll be back" fro "tornò" "he had been back", so you can't avoid them

The reversed question mark is instead pretty pointless, because any question starts right after a dot, in all languages, i guess, and the straight question mark ends the question. Yet i guess it helps in reading aloud

After the hurried albeit decent ending of Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita, I felt a slight bitter taste from that ending. Thusly I am waiting patiently to see how it will all end. My guess would be roughly 13 -16 more volumes. However I am thoroughly enjoying this series so I hope he makes a lot more.

I'm personally dissatisfied with the stories gargantuan length...too many segues into too vague of subplots that do not enhance the story. Of COURSE, being that it's KISHIRO for God's sake, these real-time "anecdotes" ARE fascinating, but in the end completely pointless (the spring-loaded clown assassin comes to mind) and destroying any of the current series' momentum.

Kishiro is a Godhead. I've RABIDLY read the series since it's inception some 17 years ago, and THAT is testament enough to Kishiro's storytelling abilities to keep me enthralled for literally half my lifespan. But ever after the first 5 or so introductory chapters to GLO, Alita's world has seemed bloated and very poorly paced.

Remember the original series shocking revelations and mysterys (like when Nova first sliced open his skull to reveal the brainchip. I immediately blurted out "NO FUCKING WAAAAAAY!!!")? Kishiro would drop juuust enough side-tales to the Alitaverse that made his timing border on the supernatural. I don't get that sense of timing in the current series. It's fight after fight after fight after...after...after...(...)

Now, GLO IS an e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y entertaining and well written space opera (and I will tell friends multiple times a year, it's the BEST space opera ever penned...PERIOD!), but it's also desperately missing the pathos and "beat" that cemented the first series as a magnum opus in the genre.

I'll give Kishiro this though: his set-pieces for mutual combat should damn well be taught in every military academy from (*insert YOUR residing country of choice).

Very sorry to gripe, I'm just passionate about this work and want to hold it to the very highest standard. I AM still amazed by what he pulls off, it just all seems so "forced" now.

I give the series 5 more volumes tops, and I think that's pushing it.

Well, I speak Spanish and although the reason is exactly as you say (intended to know before hand), I insist it's completely unnecessary. Proof is that no other language uses it (including Portuguese, thanks God!). Some people say Spanish and Portuguese sound similar. That's the greatest mistake of mankind.

As the noun says, a language is supposed to be spoken. Thus, a language proud of being reduced to five vowels is anything but "complete"

I know that perfectly. I was referring to unnecessary punctuation. The only unnecessary character, I daresay, is ß. Even Germans themselves complain.

I don't know. if the reverse "?" is in the official language, there's no need to remove it, even if you think it's unecessary.
I've seen far too many french people butchering our language because "it's easier like that!" or "the language must adapt to what I say!"; and I'm quite tired to have to decypher 80% of what I see on the internet.
A language is supposed to be a common base of understanding for everyone. As long as the official authority says a rule is valid, you have to use it, that you like it or not.

Well, that's my point of view anyway...

It was developed from doube- s, with the first s shaped like a ſ (like in the old gothic-type- fonts). The "ſs" some day merged to ß. The rules for its usage are much easier than others of our weird rules ^^

Language sure needs some controls, otherwise noone would understand the other one. But as its a spoken language, it will and has to evolve and change, to compensate the also changing times. No englishman speaks like Shakespeare anymore or even like the language in the Beowulf.
You could say, there is no language, there are only speakers. I too dont like the rubbish talk in todays virtual world, though.

@GLO: Well the ZOTT is a long one, okay, but it sure will end and after that Mars is waiting for us. Im hoping for some very interesting things to happen there.

My particular opinion is only and exactly that - particular.
Anyway, remember I'm Brazilian. Everything I said had initially the intention of making fun with my Argentine friends (Spanish speakers), as we are always trying to disturb each other. It's for fun, simply, as we've never fought in real life.

The British-French rivalry means nothing when compared to Brazilian-Argentine one.

In my opinion the problem is not the existance of useless letters and marks, but the lackage of useful. It's even more complex, if you're trying to spell non native words.
Why one sound should be spelled usind 2,3,4 or 7 letters?
"She" is ok,
"Schmerz" - you can bear with it,
"Phthisis" - err... wut? how do you spell it?
"Schtschi" - huh? is it eatable?
