Bad thing is, there's no alita in Vol 9

ШШТО?????Какова хуя???
Telling the truth, Alita is not that interesting character anymore. There are heroes in "The Last Order" who still unknown, but who have rights to bare their souls and to grow as a person, just as Alita before she reached Tiphareth.
I'm talking about Sechs and Vilma. It would be unfair just to concentrate only at Alita herself...
*Нябейте!*
As much as i like the new characters, I think this series has turned into a collection of side stories like the Cantanbury tales. Kishiro has done a pretty good job, but it seems like a rather sudden twist in writing style. I mean vampires don't really belong in a sci-fi......
I like Gally. She's the reason I read this series and I want more of her. I like seeing grow and discover more about her past, and learn new moves, and I'm hoping she'll run into erica and gelda again. Maybe the story is coming to an end and Kishiro is just stalling?
Anyway I'm looking forward to vol 9, my prediction: Haruka turns into a cognite and kills a bunch of people, Vilma is forced to kill her, and confront Victor. Vilma wins, either through sheer ideaism or because Victorr went easy on her but Bloody shelter is a wreck. As Auther is dying he gives the Fata Morgana to Vilma and she starts the Maaran which in turn becomes Melchizedek. Vilma does so and the surviors of Bloody shelter are the cradle of Gunn's civilization/utopia till Gally comes and messes it all up.

hum tipharet ?... another different name... because in french, the earh part is called salem, & the spatial part is called jeru... "jeru-salem", I found it was well found; in french traduction, this name is explained : it's not the current capital of israel, but this name is inspirated by the new city which appeared in the sky in the bible (in the gospel of holly jean)
just to know, how is explained this name in the US traduction ?
is tipharet the earth part or the spatial part ?
thx !

Maybe it's not? Maybe the story is just about to begin, because maybe "the World's not spinning around Gally, It's time for fans to realise it" - this is what the author thinks.I like Gally. Or maybe Kishiro is using Gunm as a springboard for his collection of short stories that he had in mind.

a true fan would get this...... came out 7/19/06, in Japan. Too bad the plot is so complex and the references so rich that you can't understand the plot just by the pictures.......
Not to be pushing but the raw is out!

A word on the translations...
Gally sounds really awkward in English, in my opinion. Alita works a lot better, especially given the general theme of angels they were pushing early on in the series.
Tiphares/Ketheres Elyion works a lot better in English than Jeru/Salem. Tiphares is part of Kaballah, the aspect of god corresponding to splendor/beauty -- for the Evangelion nuts in the audience, that's part of the Tree of Life. Ketheres Elyion is the last aspect of god in that same tree (the Sephiroth), also known as Kether. Ketheres Elyion is basically translated as "crown of the infinite (god)". Again, much more poetic than a klunky splitting up of Jerusalem. Also, Salem is the name of a town in New England, best known for a witch hunt in the 18th century. So that'd be just kind of weird.
As for volume 9, I bought it and read it in Japanese... it's got some pretty amazing art, some great fights, but Kishiro is just losing me. About the only parts I've liked in LO so far have been involving Elf/Zwolf/Sechs, and that was early on. Alita's become fairly boring, and the Caerulia backstory is ridiculously long. Also, the introduction of vampires into the world of Alita was pretty inexplicable/out of place, I felt.
Just my 2 yen.
(and just to give myself a bit of credence: I'm a former Jew living in Japan, fluent in English, approaching fluent in Japanese, and well-versed in Hebrew, Kaballah, and old Judaic mythos)

In Russian it sounds even worse - seems like some peasant name - if you been curious.Gally sounds really awkward in English, in my opinion. Alita works a lot better, especially given the general theme of angels they were pushing early on in the series.

BAA is an example of when translation's better then original, for foreigners I mean.
The main problem is that Kishiro is phrasing most of his LO ideas in very academic terms. He has a lot on his mind, but it only appeals to the audience on an intellectual level. In BAA, the ideas were more personally related. When he tries that here, it comes across flat or, more often, as a retread as previously covered material. Alita's already had such a huge amount of personal growth, it's bizarre to see her cowering like a child ever again.
Because of that, I don't mind the shift to other characters, except that these other characters aren't showing any personal growth, either. Caerulia is pretty much the same as she was hundreds of years ago. The small bits of growth are so telegraphed that they don't have a lot of impact.

It's always best to read stories in their original language, as some of the more subtle meanings of that language is lost when you translate it.BAA is an example of when translation's better then original, for foreigners I mean.
But I have to say that BAA and LO is prime examples of Scanlations being better than the stuff translated by Viz. That is, they make some really weird translations sometimes, not to mention the fact that they misplace the translations...
And yeah... I have to say that Sechs has become and is becoming a rather interesting character... plus it somehow suites Sechs better to have a male body...
I wonder if we will see a great war on the surface of Mars in the future...
Not always, If you can't understand this language as good as your own, you won't get almost all of these subtle meanings. Besides the emotional palette of book will be poorer, even if you clearly understand all the meanings. It depends on person's brain though. It's always best to read stories in their original language, as some of the more subtle meanings of that language is lost when you translate it.
Free scanlations have better translation, but official manga series usually have better language adaptation...*looking to the dictionary*...to the prejudice of...of...metaphrase.But I have to say that BAA and LO is prime examples of Scanlations being better than the stuff translated by Viz. HA! Do you want extra 10 000 volumes?I wonder if we will see a great war on the surface of Mars in the future...
I wouldn't mind that... I like LO... Plus it would be really cool to se Alita & Co do some more fighting alongside Zazie and the likes! Like Alita, Sechs, Elf and Zw?lf in a Tuned/Comando-styled battle!HA! Do you want extra 10 000 volumes?
Is the next raw available yet? Haven't seen it or hear about it but...the new chapter is a another story in Gunnm with Den & the Barjack... with 3 colored pages !
i really waiting for the next stages of GLO when we can refind Gally (euh Alita)
Waiting patiently (or not) for LO 9!
Maybe Lou can make a comeback as a Tuned/Comando operator... Would be cool...I wouldn't mind that... I like LO... Plus it would be really cool to se Alita & Co do some more fighting alongside Zazie and the likes! Like Alita, Sechs, Elf and Zw?lf in a Tuned/Comando-styled battle!
PS. I've got a bad feeling about quoting myself but...
I see it differently.bonedaddy wrote:The main problem is that Kishiro is phrasing most of his LO ideas in very academic terms. To me, Caerulia in the flashbacks is like Alita right now. She's going through some fairly intensive experiences that require her to look at herself and where she stands within her own mind, and ambition, as it were. But i don't think the story from 8-9 is just about her, but also about how Melchizedek came into being. I haven't seen 9 yet, but i'd bet a lot of computers are in it...
Alita herself now has a new starting point for personal growth. She's finally connected with Yoko, and is "whole" again. Instead of searching for her past and trying to look for who she is, she now goes on to what she wants to do (playing into Nova's hands no doubt, i wonder when he comes back... Mbadi left the chip somewhere on Ketheres and forgot about it apparently).
What i'm more worried about is something else, the "ghost limb" situation from the first 2 volumes has been left out almost completely for no real reason. Does it still play? Did she come to terms with it? Or did it miraculously dissappear?
Which brings me to the brain in the box... For some reason i can;t shake the feeling that those 2 are linked. After all, being in close proximity to your brain makes the 'lag' a little bit less, doesn't it? Although this is very unlikely of course. But i can't really shake the feeling that the brain is someone that we know...
Anyway, enough from a complete stranger on these boards. Keep the scanlations coming!

I suppose, since you obviously haven't read the raws, that you aren't interested in any spoilers and so I will not mention anything specific about Vol. 9 and beyond...Chrome wrote: I see it differently.

I have to agree with your take on Caerulia, she is going through an interesting change that really resembles the things Alita is going through.
They are very much alike, especially the fact that Yoko and the old Caerulia didn't think twice about killing people that were pretty much innocent bystanders who were trying to live their lives the only way they knew. I suspect we will be seing some more interaction between the two in the future (in fact I hope so...)
As for that mysterous brain... I don't think it's related to the "ghost limb"-situation at all. I think it's something far more sinister (hey, it's Nova's doing right?), though I can't point on anything specific (obviously).
And I don't think Nova really has any kind of plan for Alita. I think he's actually just a crazy bastard who wants to know what happens when such an obvious misfit as Alita is dropped in the "perfect society" controlled by Ladder... Maybe he just wants to raise hell or something...
A final thought:
Wouldn't it be interested if Alita (Yoko) found Erica and ressurected Panzer Kunst?
Now that would cause a serous ruckus...
