Vol. 15

Post by Sam »

We can now see a part of the volume 15 cover on the yukito website.

Image

It seems that it will be released in June.

This one is really good, IMO. I really like the hair - it's the most detailed hair of all the covers. However, YK has changed it's tint now. :(
In addition, he has changed the face color a bit (made it more pale), and added pink areas at the tip of the nose and above the brows, which she never had before (she has always had a plain face color, with the slightly pink lips as an exception).
He has changed the eye color to the same color as the new hair specularity. Also, she has a noisy brows now...

Anyway, the image is really lively, I like it.

By the way, as far as I remember the page number (it's been about a month since I've read it and I won't open the manga till next year, so I'll rely on the memory this time - I don't have the manga with me to check it anyway, so I can be wrong) - it's Phase 90, page 13, top image - it's the one and only scary image of Alita YK has ever shown us. I have nearly fell away from the chair when I saw it then!

Unfortunately I cannot give you the address for it because the site is in a sort of flash version (I don't know if it's flash or something else actually!!).
You have to click on the third dark orange link on the left and then the first blue link, in the japanese version of course.
I hope that helped you.

Yes, he has a flash site, but it's not a problem.

Here's the direct link: http://jajatom.moo.jp/y-shosai/cn59/new_yukito_log.html

I have to say I don't like the pale tone and the pink nose tip. It looks like she has a cold.

I also don't like her pout anymore. It looks static, with no life in it.
Look at her mouth here and here and here and here everywhere at the beginning.
Now she looks like there on the cover or like this (or here, same chapter). The outlines of her lips are merely implied, they aren't fleshed out, literally. I know that this sounds like a nerd's complain but since this is a BAA board... It bothers me. She's not the beauty anymore she used to be :| I hope Kishiro will alter his drawing style once more as the story unfolds and the years go by.

As a cover art, it's a really good one.

However, I don't like the new Alita at all - just because she has lost a soul. Completely.
After her comeback, I percept her only as "something undefined hanging out somewhere, coming as a side character from time to time". As if she's became a deckman mentally.

I suppose, YK has done it on purpose - to accentuate that she's not a human anymore, she's a robot from now on. Maybe, this paleness is just a way to point out something like a robotic "cold grey skin/rubber/silicon" on contrary to the "good old warm-colored Alita" - a game on a reader's perception of color (remember, this holds a lot of secondary/unconscious information).

PS.
I've checked that page. Yes, it was really phase 90, page 13, top image - the scariest image of Alita I've ever seen. My memory hasn't misfired that time!

I've already noticed that you pointed out the panel in question exactly. Pretty amazing memory!

I would go with that but we have so few colored pages (the last ones I remember where at the beginning of vol. 03... maybe it's not UJ's policy anymore). Do you think Kishiro would transport something important as this on one cover only, every other month? Idk. It is a point though. Future covers will show ;)
As a cover art, it's a really good one.
True. Aside from the lips I like it (should have mentioned that earlier^^). It has this touch of crayon - not so much like the UJ cover some time ago - but still. It looks more "drawn", not entirely photoshopped. I think the painting will turn out quite nice. However I'm eager to see the pose and the background :)

Hi everyone!

Vol. 15 will be released in Japan June 18th but the thing is that it will be released at the same time of a new edition of the first part of the series!

Will that be a reprint of Gunnm Complete Edition or a reprint of the 9 volume series?

More criticism on her facial design. I took Gatekpr's avatar (BTW, out of which volume did you take it?? ;) ) and now, what to say? Just compare the lips, the eyes, eyebrows, lokk at her chubby cheeks. I want my old design back, please?

It's the early one - volume 4, the fight with Jashugan (the image of her on Mars, or the next chapter), I don't remember the exact page, but this statement is for sure. Can you check it? (I won't open the manga anyway - the year hasn't passed).

As of the design - I like the new one more. The v3-v4 design was a transitional between v1-v2 and v5-later. If you look at it again (yes, I remember all the images) - you'll see that it's not so developed.

UPD:
I think, I was mistaken. It's volume 8, the last chapter. But still the fight with Jashugan.
Can someone check, please?

I've found what could also be a part of the vol. 15 cover.
For those who ask if it's the young Yoko, I'll say Yes! The name of the picture confirmed me it (glo_yoko)

Well, the little preview image is up on Yukitopia. It's on the flash part of the site that shows 3 different covers under "Comics Information".

The cover for vol. 1's re-release is there too.

I don't know, the vol 15 cover seems a little undefined, like ti's missing the dark lines or something. But I bet it will look better larger. AND it's the one that Kishiro planned for vol 12, but just included a sketch of in vol. 12, but now we can see it complete! There's no little Yoko, but Sechs, Zazie, Alita, Elf, Zwolf and the deckman are all there !

It's pretty cool, but the vol 1 cover looks like just a sketch, which it might be considering the fact Yukito had such a problem with his publisher!

Wait a second!
Is he re-releasing the original BAA with improved (LO style) graphics? What does it mean? Can anybody explain?

@moooV: Personally I doubt he had time to redraw all the chapters.
But still, there is the Gunnm Complete Edition already, why yet another version of HFV? I don't understand the purpose of this new edition. Would be interesting to know if there is new material in it, though.

Also I take back a little what I said earlier, I really like this cover (as much as I can jugde it right now). It's finally a fitting chapter for ZOTT again after the last two ones...
edit: Oh and... If this is the new cover, where does little Yoko come from? Colorpages ahead??

It seems that the re-release of gunnm vol.1 will cost a third more than GLO vol.15, that means that something has been added or at least changed (I hope so actually!!).
