Dayum, you really must have some fans in the business! Isn't that re-release exactly the same as the japan "Gunnm complete collection", without the rushed ending, containing the extra stories and so on? Do you posses it? I would like to see some more concept- drawings. Or are they the same as kvhokuto posted a while ago?MrFaber wrote:Later again, when BAALO was out they re-released BAA in a big volume edition (pretty nice) which also contained some of the extra stories (supersonic fingers, xmas carol, deckman50's escape), some note from kishiro and also a collection of sketches and artworks from the videogame project Memories of Mars. It has been published in 12 volumes without the original ending and the chapters were distribuited the hell way that suited them
Italian Covers

Now that you mention it i guess it's the same from Japan, i didn't know about it. Anyway it was published the 2nd time because the 1st it was left incomplete due to the crack of Granata Press, and the 3rd because BAALO was about to be released, but the original BAA volumes was long sold out and they would have had to be reprinted anyway
>>I wonder why didn't they asked Kishiro to make some covers for them... 20th volun\me seems rather ugly.
I guess it was cheaper to photoshop a bit some scan and tell no one
Don't forget we are italian

Re: Italian Covers
I found some covers for the old german edition. Before the tankoubons we had that one (quite old I don't have any of them). They where mirrored I think, smaler, but bigger sized.
At first my heart took a leap cause I thought they used lost colorations but on second look it seems like it was colored afterwards.
Battle for Life and Death, The Hour of Revenge, Angel of Death, Betrayed Traitors, The Singer in the Desert

I also found other VIZ-covers. But they also seem to be colored afterwards by VIZ. However at least the last one could have been a color page once. It's sad that this is all lost.

I have a whole bunch of other old VIZ covers, if someone cares I'll upload them in a .rar

Re: Italian Covers
Upload them as images and post here, if it won't trouble you. Having such things in an archive is uninteresting.
PS.
Upload them anyway - everyone will be glad.

Re: Italian Covers
The thing is I don't want to upload-copy-paste 48 times. Unless someone knows a good picture uploader where I can just name the folder and it does the rest itself... I'll only make it a .rar-archive.
Anyway, 8 mb
It takes longer for me to write this than to download it.

(did I mention that some are quite ugly?^^)

Re: Italian Covers
This is weird... Is France the only country in which the manga is called "Gunnm" and the heroin "Gally", like in the original version ? :/

In Brazililian edition, the names Gunn, Gally, Salem and Jeru are preserved.DDTL wrote:This is weird... Is France the only country in which the manga is called "Gunnm" and the heroin "Gally", like in the original version ? :/
Unfortunately, only Hyper Future Vision was published. Gunnm is not exactly commercial.
(Many international editions are retranslated from the American one. In Brazil, although mercenaries, the publishers do have an ethic code: any translation must be done from the original edition.)
Re: Italian Covers
This is exactly why we have "Alita" instead of "Gally" here. Oddly enough the german version has Jeru and Zalem, though.Sergio wrote:Many international editions are retranslated from the American one.
When I had first read the manga I always asked myself "When is the point in the story where she is called Battle Angel??? The closest one was Angel of Death but it didn't change to Battle Angel. I was confused xD

Re: Italian Covers
I have already said that: some translators want to be more creative than the original writers.
They should be writing their own works, I think.
And I am a translator myself. I daresay it is a heresy to interfere in someone else's work. An honest translation is interference enough already.

Re: Italian Covers
Italian manga volumes are most of the times splitted in 2, to make em fit the avarage size and price of an original italian comic, like Dilan Dog or Martin Mystere, and, of course, to sell twice the same crap
It's a trick used even for books sometimes. For example, A Song of Fire and Ice, so far 4 books in original version has been sold in 9 (!!!) volumes in italy each of whom is not really cheeper then how a full volume would have been.
EDIT: Ops, i didn't notice that the topic was 3 years old and i already answered that back then
my poo brain.. have u got any spare brainchip?

Re: Italian Covers
Here you have the Brazilian covers: http://www.4shared.com/document/j98_D9E ... overs.html
As HFV was released when Brazilian publishers used to transform one volume in two (fortunately, that procedure is over), there are 18 covers.

Re: Italian Covers
Huh i can't complain about my polish version of Gunnm. They look almost like orginal versions but unfortunatly they are lacking full arts on covers just like later japanese releases ^^.
And as for translation we have Alita (which you can observe on cover), Foggia Four instead Figure and Yugo instead Hugo but we still have Jeru and Zalem. Oh and as far as i remember BAA title was chosen over the original Gunnm by the readers no solely by the publisher.

Re: Italian Covers
Interesting, so the readers chose the American title, but the translator kept all the names according to the Japanese original. The only exception is Alita herself.Shivalitka wrote:Huh i can't complain about my polish version of Gunnm.
