I do accept to debate different points of view, but I insist that comparing BAA to the examples you gave is too much. Re: GLO100
I only mentioned well known mangas that take resource of fighting tournaments and presents almost nothing more besides that. Alita is a much, much more consitent work than those and the tiring ZOTT is only an arch of Yukito's masterpiece... Let's pray that it won't be the last.Sergio wrote:I do accept to debate different points of view, but I insist that comparing BAA to the examples you gave is too much. Niiiiice, thousand thanks Ichigo!

kamugin, you really mean it right? You read BAA since 1998 so you know what YK is capable of. Just have a little more faith in him, dude. I'm also pretty sure that he knows his "mid and end" since the story IS kind of finished with the Memory of Mars PSX game. GLO is expanding and changing the storyline to a degree but Mars is the finishing line, that's obvious.

So it seems that she was hit by Toji because the Jovians captured her conscience before she was able to finish her blow... Good twist of plot
Now when Yukito Kami-sama will relieve our dry throats with another chapter
Thanks again Ichigo!

I still have faith in him, but these rumors about he will put GLO on hiatus because some trifle with his editor are really pissing me. I want him to rush the plot to Mars instead of extending too much the ZOTT!Cailon wrote:kamugin, you really mean it right? You read BAA since 1998 so you know what YK is capable of. Once I downloaded that game and burned it on a CD but it didn't run on my PSX, I never tried again.

Can't belive after 19 years Kishiro will leave Gunmm incomplete.
About the scans (thanks to the author), what the hell is happening?
Ok, Gally is in pieces, but it's evident that brain chip and quantum link from Tunguska are still working, so i guess much of the body is till intact. Being a nanomachines body she maybe can even reassemble like Anomaly. But what is that "hello, i'm mechanical Jupiter and i'm looking at u with my big eye"?

He will be the biggest motherfucker if he'll do that! But we must remember that many mangakas put their mangas on hiatus for years sometimes. Let's hope his swoon doesn't last long :/MrFaber wrote:Can't belive after 19 years Kishiro will leave Gunmm incomplete.

Re:
Yukito obviously! In Japan the mangakas fortunately preserve the rights over theirs creations. Unlike in the US where Marvel, DC and other publishers take the rights off the creators hands. So we never ever will see Alita being drawn and written by other than Yukito himself... unless he allow such thing, but that is almost impossible.Megan_Gale wrote:Who actually owns Gunnm, anyway? Re: GLO100
Damn! the hysteria of politically correct that had seized this forum has finally waned off!!!
Too bad.
Thank you Ichigo! you are our saviour!
A very nice chapter indeed, but where will this lead us? what is this large mass at the end of the chapter?
as for the issue of the offending words I have just a few things to say.
First is hos offending is the use of these words in japanese? does it seem justified to the native speakers of japanese here on the forum?
second, if these words were so sensitive, I believe this is the work of the editor, proof reader whatever just pick and choose (no pokemon joke intended, sorry that's lame but I couldn't help it...)to check the work of an author. So why, I ask have they waited for years, after the magazine was published, after the tankobon was published, after the series has been translated and released abroad for years to suddenly pop up some emendation straight out of God knows where? If any changes should have been made it should have been done before the first publication or between the UJ release and the bound volume release, not years after. In this respect I understand Kishiro's anger, the fact is not so much the change as the little show of respect it implies. what have they been doing all this time? have they read his work at all? do they even give a shit if he does anything at all? he's been drawing th life of Alita for 19 years said someone, and they are bothering him for such petty changes, years after things have been published, that's a cause of resentment for sure.
Now for the length of the Zott, I think this is just a pretext to have different characters express different philosophies, political views to depict the geopolitical world which Alita has entered with the most accuracy possible and it serves the same goal as the visit to the ambassadors in BAA Martian memories, the only thing being that, as years went by the story has swollen out of proportion and kishiro cannot go fast enough.
Too bad.

Re: GLO100
Alita is in the informatic realm. This huge sphere is probably a program . Either some kind of Jovian firewall, or something greater like the Jovian "god", "king" or whatever super powerful entity that actually leads these mecha-people.litchi master wrote: A very nice chapter indeed, but where will this lead us? what is this large mass at the end of the chapter?
As for the schizophrenia issue:
http://bjp.rcpsych.org/cgi/content/full/187/6/589-a
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1472254/
I invite you to read and make your own opinion on the matter.
Selected passages:
" individuals with schizophrenia experience stigma even from family members "
" The terminology routinely used in Japanese clinical practice to describe the characteristics of schizophrenia is somewhat derogatory "
" jigiteki sokai kan (silly or childish cheerfulness). kekkan jotai (a defective state), hinekure (perverseness) and omoi agari (conceited)"
" In Japan, 260,000 patients with schizophrenia were treated every day in 1999, and 202,012 were admitted to a mental hospital in 2002. Patients with schizophrenia represented 53% of all inpatients with mental disorders in 2002 "
" only 7% of JSPN Council members informed all their patients of the diagnosis of schizophrenia. "
" approximately 167,000 patients with schizophrenia in Japan spent in a psychiatric ward more than one year (on average) without knowing what their diagnosis was. "
" the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology changed in 2002 the old term for the disorder, "Seishin Bunretsu Byo" ("mind-split-disease"), into the new term of "Togo Shitcho Sho" ("integration disorder")."
In my opinion, this debate has nothing to do with the "political correctness" that most of you resent, but you may reach a different conclusion than me.
Re: GLO100
A very interesting derailment, enough so as to draw me out from my lurkie place.
To feign familiarity right off, No MoooV don't stop! Social experiments on deep people are all ways so much more enlightening! Granted it was disappointing to see no arguments about the evolution of language. For example pre-world war II nip wasn't considered an insult, and it is likely today's youth would freak out more over the use of jap even tho it is the less of the two.
It's also interesting that the credit for no date being set yet is blamed on Yukito Kishiro. It seems the opinion that the creator has all the power is prevalent even here. Things are just as likely that this is a power play by the publisher,
a sort of shake down if he refused to go back and edit his old work.
And to feign familiarity once more before I slink back to my lurkie place. Nope i don't understand what your hinting at in this last post ulysses. Assuming your previous info was spot on, how is asking to have a word censored because it "might refer to schizophrenia" not a scary overly ambitious power play? (I've read the articles you linked, and while tragic I see no link to the word apart from it being a blanket term that means "madness".)

Re: GLO100
I agree with you that the words they asked kishiro to replace don't seem so derogatory as to actually demand their removal.
However:
- From what I read I understood that social perception of schizophrenia is indeed a major issue in Japan. Whereas no Japanese people would think "Jigiteki sokai kan" is a rude term (because physicians themselves use it to medically describe the mental illness), it actually contributes to considering schizophrenic people as mentally diminished and strengthens the stigma placed upon them.
- Political correctness aims at minimizing the use of offensive terms. But the schizophrenia vocabulary in medical institution is more than offensive: it's contemptuous and advocates the idea that they are lesser beings, thus justifying the idea that they should not be treated as equals. And the fact that it comes from medical institutions makes it legitimate.
- A range of terms referrring to schizophrenia or mental illness fall in this category of prejudice-enhancing terms.
Now then the info about kishiro says he had to change the word Hakkyô (発狂). In the manga-news article, the author of the post translated Hakkyo with "madness".
In the end: I'm not fluent enough in japanese to decide wheter "madness" is an accurate translation for Hakkyo, whether Hakkyo could or could not fall in the prejudice-enhancing category I talked about, and I'm certainly not knowledgeable enough about Japanese society to know how deep this stigma problems run on.
So I won't go saying that what they are asking is a scandal. And I do think it's different from(and much less trivial than) political correctness.

Maybe Kishiro will resume Aqua Knight. ^^
Re: GLO100
That would be good too, but very improbable. Yukito is on strike right now, no more manga until he gets what he wants or until his savings ends.Hramm wrote:Maybe Kishiro will resume Aqua Knight. ^^
At least I watched the episode 15 of Bakemonogatari, the last one, and it didn't let me down.

Stupid censorship. I really hope Mr Kishiro get things together soon, I miss Gunnm already. And his work in general

Re: GLO100
Since we couldn't get our hands on a ch100 HQ raw, there probably won't be any scanlation for this chapter. If the serie resumes in the future, I guess we'll just skip to ch101. If Kishiro abandons GLO, well, enjoy your scanlated ch99 and ch100 cam raw
. With some luck, we'll get a translation script for ch100, but that's the most we'll have.

The Japanese manga production is vast, just have something else to read while waiting for Kishiro's good mood to return. There are many good suggestions here http://www.rippersanime.com/Forum/viewt ... ?f=5&t=532

I only come back from cold, obscure and solitary tomb to say one thing:
Sergio, do me a favor and go and read Berserk, I know, I know, first 3 volumes are almost non-sense violence, but after that you will start to underestand why some people (including me) put it at the same level of GUNNM.
(follow Berserk since ´98 and GUNNM from 99/2000)
Publishers Fear Mangaka, Not Pirates is an article somehow related to YK current situation.
