Vol. 14 (Translation thread now)

Re: Vol. 14 (Translation thread now)
It's missing a page between p58-59 and p60. It's the first page of ch88/84. It's the exact same picture from p58-59, arranged on a single page, but it still serves as ch88/84's title page. I think you should put it back, even if it looks the same as p58-59.
And p94 also needs translation for the footnote.

Re: Vol. 14 (Translation thread now)
Kishiro merged phase 87+88 into 1 volume phase.
I left out the colorful ultrajump page (seemed out of place)
Also the phase 88 intro page is part of the doublepage of the end of phase 87.
Its omitted also since they were merged.
It reads so much better without that "extra" titlepage as if 1 phase.
And we all know the volume phases are way out of sync anyway due to mergings.
Pagenumbering checks out aside from 1 strange thing.
According to the index:
005-035 phase 82 (31 pages)
036 Art Page
037-089 phase 83-84 (53 pages)
090 Art page
091-123 phase 85 (Frau X) (23 pages)
124 Art Page
125-145 phase 86 (31 pages)
146 Art Page
147-173 phase 87 (27 pages)
174 Art Page
175-199 phase 88 (25 pages)
Reality:
091-113 phase 85 (Frau X)
114 Art Page
115-145 phase 86
146 Art Page
147-173 phase 87
174 Art Page
175-199 phase 88
That made me wonder, pagenumberingwise it would fit if phase 85/86 got switched around.
But that would not make sense storywise.
Typo in the official index?

I believe you're slow because you have no option.
As to releasing volumes, I see no reason to stop, especially because you'll continue translating the phases.
Anyway, thanks for vol. 14. I'll check it and return soon.

About the differences in phase sizes, I was sure to have sent you the pagination just after sending the scans. Anyway, I will fix that now.
page 17
use polyethylene (American) instead of polythene (British).
page 37
[[There is no text besides the phase number. Thus "Olympos space harbor retrieval operation at that time… what happened on Mars?" is out.]]
page 41
1. If the company's name is a reference to Mars' second satellite, then the name should be Deimos. Anyway, I am not sure if it is such a reference.
2. Gespenst - according to Babylon Dictionary, there are several meanings, as bogeyman, monster, bogy, goblin, ghost, spirit, phantom, shadow, darkness, poltergeist, spook and also specter.
page 46 - In GLO vol.3, pages 88-89, the rebel group is named Neo-Third Reich Division.
page 94 - Missing the footnote about Frau X.
page 97
panel 4 - The additional question about the Martian god of war is out.
panel 5 - Zazie - I feel that I should tell here about this. (text structure)
page 102
footnote - *Danke: "thanks" in German.
page 104
panel 1 - A "verschlag is a kind of solitary wave… (misspelling)
page 113 is NOT the last page of phase 84. You must take out pages 114 & 115, then pages 116-123 conclude phase 84. (No, Lemonlol, no page is missing between 58-59 and 60.)
page 116
panel 1 - The question "How the verschlag'd Zazie came to fight in the ZOTT…" is out.
after page 123 (I am always referring to the current page numbers), reput pages 114 & 115, now continue.
page 135
The text Arthur, lend me strength is in the second panel, not in the first (well, actually, I cannot read Japanese, but there is something written in the second panel and nothing in the first one).

page 147

Re: Vol. 14 (Translation thread now)
Sigh! Regarding only BAA, I was presented to it by the Viz edition and I'm still purchasing it (I've ordered BAA LO vol. 13 already) in spite of I read the scanlations released here that are more than one whole volume ahead Viz edition. I like to confront both versions to see wich is the best. I prefer the options adopted by the people here but sometimes the Viz edition is more understandable regarding one or other dialogue, so to me they both complement each other in a certain way. On the hypothesis the scanlations here halt, I'll be sad but I'll still have the sluggish Viz publication.^Ripper wrote: Myself am inclined to make volume 14 the LAST volume release.
Stopping with volume releases to make people WANT/NEED to buy it to get all the extra's.
I'm only slightly faster then Viz...slightly
With manga getting easier to get online it should not be too much of a problem.
ebay, paypal account, online manga stores etc can make it all easy depending on where you live.
Stopping with phase releases? Probably not as i will get burned by the forum natives. Still debatable.
Stopping with the translation itself? NEVER! This forum will always be available for translating and discussions.
Ideally we would buy ultrajump and then read the translation on the forums.
Ideally != the most practically.
I probably should make a separate forum thread about this topic.
Probably if it gets debated enough
What are your thoughts on this matter?
Should we call it quits?
Are the publishers overreacting?
Am i too slow releasing volumes?
Speak up you mind!
I think most of the scanlations groups have theirs staff members living in the US, isn't it? US corporations and authorities have taking draconian measures when dealing with piracy, so I understand the fear that have putting down many scalations groups already. Outside US we may not give a damn about all of this but we are not the ones risking ours necks. I think you people are doing this for fun and we are very grateful to you but it doesn't woth the risk of being fined or jailed, so if you think the risk is too big you should stop.
By the other hand, this forum is quite obscure and undisclosed and deals with only one scanlation. Even I, as a regular visitor of Ripper's Anime Page, took some time to realize the new scanlations were being released here in the forum, not in the main site. So I suggest you to hide the past scanlations in a post here, not in the main site, just to add more discretion.
Now regarding this whole crisis, we can say that most of the mangas will never be released outside Japan. Many of the titles already being released officially were thanks to the scanlations that divulged them to the fans. If the scanlations goups cease to exist, our freedom to choose what read will be lost and we will be enslaved by the editors and what they think is the best for us to read. If they will be lef to choose, it won't take too much time that the only options we will have are mangas like Naruto, One Piece, Dragonball, Bleach and such - only the major shonen hits. So no more seinen, no more shoujo, no more josei, and no more classics. I even was presented to a theory that this strike against scanlations, the US publishers demanding the Japanese to take action against scanlations, is truly intended to weakens manga spreading in Occident, to bring us rebelds back to the old good Marvel/DC comics, Disney, Asterix, Tin Tin, Moebius and so on.

Mœbius? I love Mœbius. Actually, even Kishiro does. Have you forgotten the little boy named Giraud in Last Order, volume 4?
Re: Vol. 14 (Translation thread now)
Ok, Moebius wasn't the best exemple, I shouldn't have mentioned the sacred cows. Asterix is better to explain: only the 24 first volumes are worth of reading, they are very good comics. But after the death of Goscinny, Uderzo wasn't capable of producing good stories like the ones by Goscinny. The 33th album Le ciel lui tombe sur la tête (Asterix and the Falling Sky), where Asterix and Obelix, aided by two characters with a strong resemblance of Superman and Mickey, repealed an alien invasion. The aliens in question are a caricature of oriental people. The message is clear: traditional comics characters fight against the manga invasion. The Japan being flooded with occidental pop culture is ok, but the opposite is unacceptable.Sergio wrote:Mœbius? I love Mœbius. Actually, even Kishiro does. According to Babylon dictionary, Befreien means to set free. As to Befreiten, I was unable to find it even browsing the web.spacey wrote:Small note:

Edit:
Yes, I found it, but it doesn't seem to be the case

Re: Vol. 14 (Translation thread now)
spacey is right, "Front der Befreien" makes no sense in german. However we used this term in vol. 03, too (page 089). So the consistency-point goes for this one. Plus, Kishiro used weird german on other occasions as well, so we could say it is just Gunnm-style, simply, end of discussion.
Or, to make it complicated:
- As "befreien" means "to set free" it is a verb and thus can't work in your usual proper name.
- "Befreiten" is plural of a nominailzed adjective and initially means "the freed" (the men who were freed)[/spoiler]
- Personally I'd go for "Befreier", "liberators", it makes the most sense in this context. This army is not fighting against a propaganda machine or against the capitalist system - so there is no reason why they should call themselfes "freed". They want to unify Mars and make it join the Jovian Empire, thus Liberators fits the best imo.
